1993 - 28th Academy of Country Music Awards: Garth Brooks wins

1942 - Singer/songwriter Billy Swan is born in Cape Giradeau, Mo. His biggest hit is the 1978 No. 1 hit "I Can Help."
1948 - Steve Winwood is born in Birmingham, England. He is the lead singer of the bands the Spencer Davis Group, Blind Faith and Traffic. He establishes a successful solo career in the 1980s and has two No. 1 singles: "Higher Love" and "Roll with It."
1963 - Bob Dylan is invited to appear on TV's "Ed Sullivan Show," but refuses when he is forbidden to sing "Talking John Birch Society Blues."
1964 - Ray Charles' "Busted" wins a Grammy as Best R&B Recording.
2001 - Perry Como dies at his home in Florida. He is 87. The legendary crooner dies in his sleep after a long illness. He charts 82 pop hits through 1952, and counts among his 11 No. 1 songs "Catch a Falling Star," which received the RIAA's first-ever gold record.
2006 - During its second annual benefit concert at the Music Box/Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, the MusiCares MAP Fund, a non-profit organization aimed at helping music industry professionals with addiction recovery treatment, present Metallica's James Hetfield with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award for his "devotion to helping other addicts with the recovery process.

How amazing is SRV? I was lucky enough to see him in concert. He was so incredibly talented, and had a massive stage presence.
