Its becoming increasingly obvious why Republicans still shopping around for a presidential contender are eager for former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson to get in the race.
Thursday night some 600 members of the Connecticut GOP turned out to get a closer look at Thompson, a familiar figure from his role as prosecutor Arthur Branch on the long-running Law and Order TV series. And by all accounts Thompson did not disappoint.
He talked about his traditional GOP values. He said millions of dollars in pork barrel spending, backbiting and battles over all things large and small are creating a cynicism. I think the American people are looking for somewhere to go and we have to give them somewhere to go.
And then he showed he could deliver a good line - and one with an enormous amount of truth in it - better than most:
People ask me why I left Washington, I said I longed for the realism and sincerity of Hollywood.
A message form the Reagan playbook?
Of course he was the Republican counsel and Dash was the Democratic counsel.
He had a real head of hair back then.
Beat ya by two seconds. ;-D
Bump!
Is this speech online anywhere?
I remember watergate too...
and I recall this is a repost.
THAT sounds like something Dutch would have said!
I’ve been looking for it too- haven’t found a transcript yet...sounds like he’s sharpening his theme:)
If I find it I’ll ping you..
Fred BUMP!
:) Thanks! I’m actually searching for a transcript..
This is a good thought to keep in mind:
“We must push back and push back hard,” he said. “Remember how we won in the 1980 we stuck to our conservative principals.”
(Fred)
Fred, my checkbook awaits you.... Make that announcement and set a single day fund raising record.
Fredipedia: The Definitive Fred Thompson Reference
Please FReepmail jellybean if you want on/off this list. WARNING: This ping list is EXTREMELY active.
If the primary were held today Fred Thompson would have my vote for sure. None of the other nit-noids inspire me at all, especially Rudy McRomney.
He, he.
Yeah, people like you are really going to lift Romney over the top. /sarc. If Mitt does go down, I'm sure the Rudy/McCain camps would welcome your type.
Fortunately for Mitt, most FReepers will not think less of Romney just because one of his supporters is an ignorant bigot.

Thompson and his circle of friends have been building the machine. They’ve been working on it for weeks now. All this has been going on behind the scenes. But when Fred announces, he will already have a formidible organization that will hit the ground running. And as time goes by and Fred starts knocking the lesser candidates out of the race, his organization can recruit the very best people from their campaigns.
Plus they will have an army of grassroots volunteers to who have already been working hard for Fred. Take a look at their websites, and you will see that some of these non-professionals are very politically astute.
I have nothing against the LDS church. Not my thimble full of sacremental wine, but I trust the Man upstairs to sort us all out when the time comes. It’s Mitt the candidate that I don’t much care for. He’s just too slick for me, and he’s had too many conversions on too many issues too recently to suit me.
Like the majority (some 60%) of Republicans, I don’t want to settle for Rudy McRomney. I believe Fred Thompson has what it takes to win both the GOP nomination and the general election.
You can come and deal with my four children, and then I can concentrate on split second pings. :p
