After more than two years of disheartening online dating, Charlotte Kullen resolved to spend less time pursuing men and more time pursuing her hobbies. She plunged into tennis, running, sailing, horseback riding, fitness boot camp and scuba diving classes, assuming that somewhere between the sit-ups and the strapping on of fins she might meet some eligible prospects.

I was going to say 'hang out at the closest engineering college', but that doesn't seem to be the right speed for these gals.
I am sure they will say it’s because THEY are the ones that drop the kids off at daycare. /sarc
For men, try Alaska. (Prisons and China are also full of men.)
For good men, try church.
For single men, try college.
Good point, I wonder how many Grace’s are out there looking for a ‘Will’ that would also be interested in sleeping with them.
“running classes”? What man would pay money for that? What man would want to date a woman who pays money to take a running class?
Every time we get a decent looking woman working, she usually ends up hanging out with the guys in the mail room or CAD department. No joke.
LOL...all I could think of there was the Tom Brady Sexual harassment video...
May I suggest these women take up playing HALO and attend LAN parties.
Lots of men. Lots and lots of men. Lots of men who would walk on fire for a XX chromosome gamer.
Sign up for HVAC classes or automotive classes and you will find men.
Cooking class? wine tasting class? L0L
You will have better luck if you dress up like a Klingon and get stoned at a STTNG Convention. Chicks really dig that kind of thing.
Yep. Men are too tired from working to go to classes in the evening. These women should try fishing or golf, and they’d find lots of guys. Although, most guys go fishing to get away from people.
When I have to leave for the job site in the mid mornings I get caught in traffic with the ones farding in their car.
I met my wife in Engineering. She was one of the few that made it through. Most of the gals that make it are in two camps: very pretty /not very bright; and those that are extremely smart and blow most of the guys away. My gal is pretty and very smart. Very methodical.
Sorry, but your stats are a bit off: “Nationally, 57 percent of undergraduate and graduate students are female, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. But according to the American Society for Engineering Education, only 20 percent of bachelor’s degrees in engineering go to women. http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/specialrpts/boys/060327engineer.shtml
“At the University of Maine College of Engineering, women are graduating at a higher rate than men. Between 1994 and 2000, 41 percent of female engineering students graduated within four years, versus 29 percent of male engineering students. Moreover, female engineers dominate the top ranks of their classes.” (from the same article as above)
I’m telling you, I saw this trend ten years ago when I was teaching at a university. The women were more interested in their grades and career opportunities, and many of the men just wanted to party. The women were more interested in study abroad, internships, etc.
The same school I was talking about in the first post produced only one student this year who is interested in going to what is supposed to be a top notch engineering school (Purdue) and that student is a girl. The other two students who filled out paperwork showing an interest in engineering have decided to go to a much less demanding school.
Look, by the way, at Georgia Tech: “...approximately 21 percent of the women students in engineering [have a 3.5 GPA]. In comparison, about 19 percent of male students in engineering have a GPA of 3.5 or better.
“Fifty-two percent of Tech’s women in engineering have a GPA of 3.0 or better; 45 percent of the Tech’s men in engineering have a GPA of 3.0 or better.”
I went to the first meetings of two writing classes, not to meet chicks, or to learn writing, but to get some inspiration and perspiration, as in having assignments forced on me. In both instances the classes had the smell of old people, predominantly women. I didn’t go back.
Go to the local Republican caucus. Yeah, you’ll meet some old farts and what not, but you’ll also meet some real young and middle age men, full of fun and full of values.
...and the same for professional pilots, like my treasured "Ace"; almost all are men. Go to flight school young women, they'll love you! PS, I told the kid to marry a doctor, but never a lawyer.
Farding and on the cell phone too? Yeeeekks....
You may say that in jest...but there is much truth in that ;)
I'll be going to the gym this evening, and I'll see 3 guys for every girl.
Cycling is also mostly guys. Look at the results of the Mount Diablo Challenge , which is a simple hill climb that either sex could accomplish. Age 19-29 there are 16 women, and 54 men (1- 3.4). For age 30-39 there are 26 women and 232 men (1- 8.9). The writer of the article has cherry-picked a few activities, and ignored other activities that disproves her thesis.
