What would a majority of conservatives end up doing on November 4, 2008 with a Fred Thompson/Mitt Romney ticket?
IMHO, Mitt wouldn’t bring anything to the ticket. His flip-flops/late-life conversions on core issues still remain as does many people’s queasyness with his religion. And he can’t even bring his home state of Massachusetts with him.
Fred needs to pick a Midwest governor for geographical balance(Pawlenty maybe) OR if he’s running against a Hildabeast/Osamabama ticket maybe pick Michael Steele or J.C. Watts neither of whom have Romney’s baggage and would counterbalance Osamabama.

Lets beat the drum for the term Fredneck (Im one!) to describe Thompson For President supporters.
Nonsense. Here are the proper terms:
Fredneck: supporter of Fred who listens to country-western
Fredhead: supporter of Fred who listens to heavy metal
The terms for a FReeper are: FRedneck and FRedhead.
Not sure what we call red-headed supporters of Fred though.

Doncha think having a flip-flopping slickmeister as a running mate would be a bit strange?

Better work quick.
Fredhead starting to be recognized nationally.

I can see McQueeg now as he steams over these numbers in a state he has to win.
Veins are popping out and he’s rolling those ball bearings as he realizes his chances have just gone down the toilet.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer “maverick”
Now some Palmetto State Republican heavyweight needs to retire Lindsey Graham.

But...? but...?
Where is that powerhouse candidate that we are assured is the most conservative, Ron Paul? Did he crack 1%?
Hillery would probably get more votes from Republicans than Ron Paul.

[.. In the south -- where Fred wins easily without him -- perhaps; but in the rest of the country Gingrich would only be a drag on Thompson. ..]
Only to some democrats.. Most democrats have no idea of who Gingrich is..
And not a few republicans..
America is quite dumbed down...

Like with Rudy, you could find at least two women who didn't find him that charming. Of course, Rudy's exes are both still alive. Newt's first died shortly after he served divorce papers to her on her deathbed.
Charming.

I like the Steele pick because I think there is no way in hell the beast is gonna pick Hussein Obama. She will go for Richardson to take New Mexico and possibly Colorado and Arizona. I think a guy like Steele would force many of the black voters to consider where they stand with the Dem party.

By all accounts.
I notice how all ex-wives are routinely libeled here at FR for no good reason than that the record of the marriage puts someone's favorite candidate in a bad light.
The exception is Fred Thompson whose ex-wife is supporting his campaign already and very pro-Fred. They had an amicable divorce.

“I can see McQueeg now as he steams over these numbers in a state he has to win.”
Michigan is another state McLame is counting on winning and so is Romney.
If its a closed primary McCain doesn’t have a chance and With Fred in I doubt Romney will either.

I think Fredneck would play off of the whole; You might be a redneck if/Jeff Foxworthy thing. On one of the other threads someone posted a slew of “You might be a Fredneck if...” lines. This might, IMHO, backfire though — as in painting Fred as a ‘redneck’ in the bad sense...
[Living in Wisconsin I would prefer being a Fredhead than a ‘Cheesehead’. I’ve always found the Cheesehead moniker a little condescending... Of course, that could be because I grew up in Illinois. LOL (o;]

Amazing isn’t it... A double-digit lead in this poll and he isn’t even an official candidate yet? Gotta love it!

Newt really would be good in a well defined advisory role in the Thompson administration. His grasp of technology as well as history would be a real boon. Just keep him in the background.
I think there may be something to the idea that he was playing the “stalking horse” role for Fred. His flirtations with running kept a lot of people from committing to the others. Maybe it was unintentional but, that is the effect he had.
