The major political issue on the island stems from the natives who rightfully take offense to the natural beauty of the Islands being eroded and privatized by wealthy haoles (a derogatory term for foreigners). Ironically, in order for the Hawaiian economy to grow, it has to devote more of its natural resources to the tourists.

No, it's an anti-white slur used by Hawaiian racists to describe American citizens as well as foreigners.
Don’t waste your time. tang0r is a serial poster who is trying to drive traffic to his website. He (she?) is zero interactive.
Thanks - this is the lefty “Prometheus Institute” again. Didn’t check the source.
Mayhaps a screenname change is in order?
;-)
While in Hilo last year, I found the people open and loving. While some are impoverished, by our standards, they are happy. The joy in their lives is called “the breath of life”.
When the first sailors landed, the people found them to be very stern, “without the breath of life” or, in their language, haole.
We have required them to need us, our money and possessions. Some resist, just as the Native Americans did. They want to lead their lives just as true conservatives do, without government intervention, and on our own terms.
Bully for you.
While some are impoverished, by our standards, they are happy.
Wow, you really know these people very intimately, indeed.
The joy in their lives is called the breath of life.
Citation, please. Other than a vacation brochure.
When the first sailors landed, the people found them to be very stern, without the breath of life or, in their language, haole.
This is hoax etymology. The Hawaiian for "without breath" is hae'okina not haole. Its usage far predated the first Western sailors - it was used to describe any intruder or interloper disliked by the community.
In modern parlance it is used by ethnic Hawaiians - 99% of whom neither speak nor understand the Hawaiian language - as an anti-white slur.
We have required them to need us, our money and possessions.
Poppycock. Like all people, they like nice things and want to have them.
Some resist, just as the Native Americans did.
Resist what? Going into Starbucks? Watching American Idol?
They want to lead their lives just as true conservatives do, without government intervention, and on our own terms.
Uh-huh. That's why they enjoy enormous amounts of federal largesse and the highest state taxes in the Union.
Spare me the "noble savage" claptrap.
Haole is a racist word used by racist losers who are complete failures in life.
I guess it is true that “it takes one to know one”. Racist that is.
I am sorry that I do not meet your high standards. You have truly humbled me.
Since you're implying that I am racist, please point out any evidence you may have to substantiate it.
I am sorry that I do not meet your high standards. You have truly humbled me.
You seem to have taken the discussion extremely personally - what with insulting me and this bizarre statement.
It's just a forum - maintain perspective.
IMHO, you took the first step in creating lines in the sand.
Don’t worry. I will not cross it again.
I can see why he needs traffic. His writing style and logical inferences are very weak.
Not particularly. You were making some pretty sweeping claims and I was not buying into them.
Your step by step put downs were OK?
I tried to elucidate - piece by piece - my problems with your post.
Its OK for you to call Hawaiians racist because they do not want to be ruled from Washington D.C.?
I didn't call Hawaiians racist. I called Hawaiians who use the anti-white slur haole racists, because that is what they are.
And their use of slurs has nothing to do with some ideological objection to Hawaii's membership in the Union (Hawaii is not "ruled by" Washington DC). People who use this kind of language are generally the kind of losers who live off the federally-extracted taxes that Hawaii disproprtionately receives.
IMHO, you took the first step in creating lines in the sand. Dont worry. I will not cross it again.
Feel free to disagree with me as often and as forcefully as you wish.
Have not lived here for a full year yet, so my local knowledge is sorely lacking. But, if I hear it right, just labeling someone a "haole" is not considered a slur. Now if you call someone a "f 'n haole", you indeed have raised it to slur, as in "go back to the mainland, you f 'n haole!".
A fine point perhaps, but that seems to be the local understanding of the issue. But what do I know, I'm just a haole..........
I "passed" since my brown skin and hair made me look like a local.
we used to flip tops at school and make fun of haoles.
the NCO beach was cool but going up to the Ke Iki Beach and Kalama Beach you needed to be a local to get the good spots.... and then hang out on the beach near Rocky Point, Tonggs or the PeePee-Leenee (Pipeline) to watch the big boys rip it up and scope out the girls.
