Saudi King Says Middle East Crisis Will Affect The World
DUBAI, June 19 (Bernama) -- The Saudi king has warned of an impending "explosion" in the Middle East, saying that it will not only affect the region but will spread all over the world, the English daily Gulf News reports.
"The Middle East region suffers from the longest conflict in our contemporary history which is the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and Israel's occupation of Arab lands," King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, said in an interview with the Spanish El Pas newspaper which was published simultaneously in Al Riyadh newspaper yesterday.
"At this point in time we are exerting efforts to solve this conflict, but we are witnessing an expansion of the crisis to include other countries like Iraq and Lebanon," he said.
"This makes the region replete with troubles that pose grave concerns for us. My fears are the fears of all reasonable men that the explosive situation will not be confined to the region but will extend to the whole world," he added.
The Saudi monarch yesterday began a five-nation trip that will take him to Spain, France, Poland, Egypt and Jordan.
King Abdullah also underlined the importance of solving the problem of Iran's nuclear programme peacefully in a way that guarantees all countries in the region to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes in accordance with the standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Thousands stuck as BC Ferries cancels 21 sailings due to bomb threat
July 29, 2007 - 10:10 pm
DELTA, B.C. (CP) - Thousands of summer travellers were stuck for hours Saturday when B.C. Ferries was forced to cancel sailings after receiving a bomb threat that police considered credible.
David Hahn, chief operating officer of B.C. Ferries, said the threat came in a 911 call to police at about 3:30 in the afternoon from a mall in suburban Coquitlam from a man with a Middle Eastern accent.
“Whether it was a Middle Eastern caller is a different issue, but that was the accent they were using,” Hahn said.
Twenty-one sailings were cancelled and travellers were forced to wait in terminals near Vancouver, Victoria and Nanaimo.
Police and three sniffer dogs searched the ships, cars, campers and buses and no one was allowed to leave the terminal until their vehicle had been inspected, said Hahn.
Passengers were confined to the terminal cafeteria before police gave them the go-ahead to leave.
One ferry had already left the terminal and had to be turned back. Another ferry that was ready to depart for Schwartz Bay in Victoria was halted.
All the passengers on both ships were evacuated and their vehicles searched.
As well, all the vehicles clogging the parking lot at the Tsawwassen terminal south of Vancouver had to be searched. Once inspected, the owners were asked to leave.
The Tsawwassen terminal is about a 40-minute drive south of Vancouver and is one of the ferry fleet’s main terminals.
Ships sail from there to Schwartz Bay, near Victoria, and Duke Point, near Nanaimo, as well as to several smaller islands off the B.C. coast.
The big ships between Tsawwassen and Schwartz Bay carry up to 470 cars and 2,100 passengers. In the summer, ferries depart between the two terminals every hour.
Hahn said people were significantly inconvenienced and some would have had to wait up to six hours.
By 9 p.m., the ships were able to return to limited service.
“Those people were there for a God-awful long time,” Hahn said.
“This was a very specific type of bomb threat that was reported . . . The RCMP had every vehicle, every bus, every camper, checked.
“(It caused) tremendous inconvenience to our customers.”
The ferry system routinely gets bomb threats and had one as recently as a month ago.
But Saturday’s full-scale alert was rare, Hahn said.
“I would say that this is one that, for whatever reason, the RCMP gave more credibility,” he said.
Hahn said Ferries is offering a $50,000 reward to anyone with information that will lead to an arrest of whoever called in the threat.
Police in suburban Delta also said they are investigating who made the threat.
Beyond the reward, though, Hahn said there isn’t much B.C. Ferries can do to prevent such threats.
“We can’t control who wakes up in the morning and decides to do that, whether it’s to a plane or a bus or a ferry or a mall.”
Earlier this year, an executive with B.C. Ferries mused that passengers should brace themselves for increased security on the ships, suggesting the company may move toward implementing airport-style measures.
Ferries later backed away from that extreme, but in May, the company received $4 million from the federal government to help improve security.
The money was to be spent at terminals in Nanaimo, Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen for things like perimeter security, lighting, fencing, surveillance cameras and employee training.

Maryland Warns Public of Missing Radioactive Material
WALDORF, Md. - Tuesday July 24, 2007 1:47 pm
ABC 7 News - Md. Warns Public of Missing Radioactive Material
State environmental officials say Tuesday that a piece of equipment containing radioactive material has been stolen from a Charles County construction site.
The Department of the Environment warned the public that a missing moisture density gauge containing radioactive material has gone missing from a contractor’s worksite in Waldorf.
The gauge is about three feet tall in a locked yellow case, and it likely poses no danger to the public.
Officials say that as long as the gauge isn’t opened, no one could be harmed. They say the Cesium-137 inside would pose a risk only to someone handling it for extended periods.
Moisture density gauges are used by builders to measure the compactness of the soil before building. The one that went missing Monday is a Troxler Model 3-4-3-0, serial number 2-2-3-5-5.

Metro Closes Green Line Stations After Hazmat Situation
WASHINGTON - UPDATED - Sunday July 29, 2007 2:17 pm
ABC 7 News - Metro Closes Green Line Stations After Hazmat Situation
Hazmat crews from D.C., Prince George’s and Montgomery County say someone released commercial-grade rat poisoning at several above ground Metro stations, Sunday afternoon.
Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato says the Greenbelt, Takoma Park, Naylor Road and Anacostia stations were closed while authorities investigate an early report of a man seen spraying some sort of chemical.
The first report came from Naylor Road station just after Noon Sunday.
Asato says the Greenbelt station had as many as 20 dead birds outside, and the others had one to three each.
The Takoma Park and Naylor Road stations are still close. The Greenbelt and Anacostia station been cleared and have since reopened.
Crews are also investigating the Rhode Island station after another dead bird was found.
Metro has set up shuttle buses between the College Park and the Greenbelt stations as well as the Silver Spring and Takoma Park stations on the red line.
Hazmat units are finding kernels or seeds on the ground around the reported Metro stations. Investigators determined the substance contained DCon rat poison, said District of Columbia Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter.
Etter says officials are looking for a person in a black pickup truck who witnesses saw spraying the substance.
Emergency crews from several jurisdictions are still on the scene.
Did you read about the rat poison sprayed at the stations in Washington?

Sounds like someone didn’t like the job the city was doing on rat control............or he was probing for weak spots. (yes, I’m getting paranoid.)
Off topic.
My four orphan wild turkeys were back this morning. They ate some cracked corn, drank out of the water tank and then left with their new mommas and siblings. I knew they were the same four because they were the only ones who came up to the deck and didn’t leave when I approached them. They came really close to eating right out my hand. Pretty cool!

A federal grand jury indicted a Chinese-Mexican businessman Thursday on charges he conspired to help in the production of methamphetamines destined for the United States.
Zhenli Ye Gon, in whose Mexico City mansion authorities found $207 million in money allegedly tied to drugs, was part of an international conspiracy that operated in the U.S., Mexico and El Salvador, according to a one-count indictment that was filed in U.S. District Court in Washington.
Ye Gon, owner of a pharmaceutical company, also is wanted by Mexican authorities on drug trafficking, organized crime and weapons charges. He was arrested in the Washington area on Monday.
Prosecutors said Ye Gon helped divert huge quantities of chemicals needed to manufacture methamphetamines to groups that actually made the drug and shipped it into the United States.

Another old Bin Laden tape reposted
Again this week, an older Bin Laden tape has been reposted to the jihadist message boards.
The tape can be downloaded from http://www.lauramansfield.com/3.rm
A key question that is being asked by analysts is “Why? Why the repost of the old messages?”
Over the last month, we’ve seen a huge cache of older, and in many case obscure Bin Laden messages
appear on jihadist servers and on message boards.
The last time Osama Bin Laden appeared in a video tape was in October 2004. Since that time he
has released a number of audio taped messages, but no further videos. His last audio message
was in July 2006.

My post 2296 to me reads the same, about Zawahiri and I suspect it too is a repost.
Could it be that we have finally killed him?
