My neighbors have a pool, and their kids are the loudest, most obnoxious people I’ve ever had to tolerate.
One night, I heard frantic splashing in the pool, and one of the kids screaming for help. It was a shrill, panicked scream. I ran over to save her, and had to fumble with the latch on the gate. I was yelling to let her know I was on my way. It got deadly silent, and I just knew she had slipped under the water. When I got into the pool area, there was the little girl and her daddy, being very quiet. The dad told me they had just been playing. Not once during my panic did they tell me everything was okay.
That’s when I learned to tune them out.
They’re now young adults, still living at home, and worse than they were when they were children. They have bonfires under the trees, with up to 30 of their devil worshipping friends, chanting incantations. It’s little more than annoying to me now.
I have sympathy with BOTH sides here. Kids should be allowed to play and have fun, they’re kids.
On the other hand, our good weather months have been made miserable by the across the street neighbor boys and their friends who spend HOURS in the street on bikes and skateboards making a huge racket and taking their SWEET old time getting out of the street when we are trying to drive to our house (live on a one-way street, so no avoiding them). Hubby even ran over one of their skateboards left in the street one night. So I understand the frustration. In the house, we close our windows so as not to hear all the noise. But I certainly wouldn’t want them to go to jail for it. There really aren’t safe places to play anymore, except right at home.
Me too. A nice thick hedge or windbreak does wonders to make a backyard feel secluded.
They sounded like my neighbors until I got to this part. You are kidding, right?
I wish I was.
I’m speechless.
It used to scare me, but it’s amazing what you can get used to. Now, it worries me a little, but I can tolerate it.
Phew! I was beginning to think I was a bad parent. If a kid can’t scream and make noise in his own backyard, where can he do it? Sometimes children just need to be children.
Deer attractant? I’m going to guess that was supposed to bring me to some other hunting supplies, right? I’m fully stocked, and the collection is growing.
Sounds like daddy was dunking the kid.
I would say that pretty well covers it.
I suppose I could be more tolerant of kids, having been one once. I’d prolly just stop the car, get out, and say “excuse me kids, I know you’re having fun, but could you please let me get into my driveway.” Being in a car renders a kind of semi anonymity (hence things like road rage that we usually do not see among pedestrians).
Yeah, they were just having fun. She was about 8 years old at the time. It was a good opportunity for Daddy to teach her that you shouldn’t scream for help and pretend you’re drowning. And it wouldn’t have hurt him to tell me everything was okay, instead of letting me continue to panic as I tried to come to the rescue.
But I just don’t understand people who have to involve the authorities in everything that annoys them. So the neighbors are loud. Very loud. Deal with it!
Oh NOOOOO! BACH!!!!!!
:) Most parents did not put up with screaming. We all did the same thing. Stop the screaming or you are coming in. They did. Not necessary to scream. yell and play???? Heck yes...that’s being a kid but all the screaming???? It’s annoying to everyone and not necessary. However, sending the parents to jail? Is there more to this story than what we are reading???? Doesn’t pool water and yelling go hand in hand...followed by splashing friends or siblings and laughing liek crazy then followed by SOMEONE crying when it turns into an argument? Ha,ha. Ahhh, life as a kid...:)
Well either that, or by applying attractant to the chanting party sites, you would get the gathering deer to break up their chanting parties.
If you let it go on continuously then how will your kids learn to respect the rights of others. Besides in this case it was not just one neighbor, I think the complaint had about a dozen names on it. It was reported on fox.
And if they decide to sacrifice one of them, maybe I’ll get a free roast.
>>>Doesnt pool water and yelling go hand in hand...<<<
To a degree yes. Where I live there is a noise ordinance but it is only in force from 10 pm to 7 AM. I don’t know what time of day or night these kids were yelling or what type of noise ordinance is in effect where they live.
The complainant stated that he works twelve hours so I’m assuming that the noise was being made in the evening hours and if so, I do hold the parents responsible.
