I'm not sure what to make of this. I reckon I'd have to hear the kids play to know if they really are too loud or if the neighbors are too sensitive.

I have two young children. When the scream they get one warning. The next time they scream they lose their outdoor time. Period. These are parents who either don’t give a crap about anyone else, or are obnoxious and loud as well. Either way, they should face fines for this. Nothing is more annoying than screaming kids, except perhaps loud barking dogs.

If the township allows them to build the pool in the first place, then so be it.
Probably, these homes are too close together.
Sounds like a mix of people who think they have money and those gronala types thinking they live in a quiet paradise.

My husband and I took his father to a local restaurant on Tuesday. We were seated behind 3 teenage girls who were obnoxious, loud, and rude. Only when they left did my father-in-law tell me one of the three was the adult-possibly the mother. You nailed it. PARENTS. ‘nuff said.

I'm guessing the guy who spent 6 years complaining works 12 hours a day at his retail business.

Could be there are socio-ethnic-religious conflicts as well.

Odds are the complainer has a corner lot. Those guys are always complaining about the other neighbors.

This could have been fixed with a boom box and some hip-hop noise.

For some reason there are allot of people who think that it is somehow non PC to control their kids.

I wish I could say there are only a few but thats not the case.

When I was a kid, if I was screaming, my mother’s exact words would be “Stop screaming right now or I’ll give you something to scream about”, and believe you me, we shut our pie holes.

Sounds as if the parents have decided that they don’t have to do anything to control the kids. If these kids are allowed to behave as they please now I’m sure they will make wonderful neighbors for others some day.

We did this once with loud obnoxious heavy metal coming from next door. We cranked up our favorite baroque masterpieces. Didn’t take long.

I’m surprised at all the FReepers who think it’s ok to be linguine spined and not have a good time in your own backyard, especially one with a swimming pool.

The issue here is obtrusive government rules/ordinances and laws telling us how we WILL live, not two kids ages 5 and 11 having a good time that causes a neighbor to go anal about it.

I don’t think there is enough info here for me to make a decision. I like kids, and I raised 4 of my own, but in our old neighborhood there were many times when we could not enjoy our deck because of kids screaming while playing in their pools. We, however, never would have complained about it, especially since, during the week, the screaming usually stopped after dark. Weekends were loud until way after dark, but we were usually away. Now, thank heavens, we live in an area where the loudest sound we hear as we sit on our back porch in the evening is the singing of the birds.

I suspect that the biggest problem is that the houses are too close together and there are not enough trees and shrubs to dampen the noise.

I think this is ridiculous, and I don’t like kids.

This story does not have enough facts. What time of day are the disturbances? Without that little bit, I can't decide who to root for.

Kids are nothin’ compared to the freakin idiots with their loud-ass Harleys and muffler-less cars in our neighborhood. Talk about annoying.

Well, the only way to tell who is right is to listen to a recording.

The noises of happy, playful kids is one the world’s delights. The noises of loud, obnoxious kids can be torment.

Take for example our neighbors’ kids. The girl just shrieks and screams for no reason. She has for years. We used to check to make sure she was okay, but we stopped long ago. We’ve learned to tune her out—for the most part.

Their oldest son used to smoke cigarettes between the fences and throw apples at the hobbit lass and her dog. He's moved out now, but alas, the longer ones are just as bad.
