Fools!! I cannot believe they do not understand that all a gradual surrender does is cost American lives. It is victory or nothing.

All these politicians from BOTH sides of the aisle with the exception of a few, signed on to the invasion of Iraq in 03 and now they want to say never mind. Well they ALL got us into this thing and pulling us out now without an acceptable victory situation means they ALL should take blame for any negative results that come about from not seeing this thing through !!!

I just sent warner another email; this time addressed to General Warner. It was not a pretty email, and will get deep sixed as soon as it reaches an aide’s desk, but what they hey. I felt better chastising him for his absurdity.

These so-call american senators are giving a vote of confidence in AQ and a vote of no confidence in General Patraeus and our troops. They know they are doing that, and they just don’t give a damn. They need to cow-tow to the liberal media so they can get some positive press for reelection. Don’t you know, that is all they care about.

Warner was once a distinguished man; he is now nothing but a mouse. He needed to retire last go-round.

A few good men and women are fighting these idiots, but I fear it may not be enough.

President Bush will veto anything that comes to his desk regarding withdrawal and surrender, but we should never forgive and never forget those who are willing to stand in the well of the senate and condemn america.

Six months ago they voted for General Patraeus, and now, even before their own plan is followed, they want to change their minds again. These people do not belong in the Senate and we should work to unelect any republican who votes for this sham withdrawal, no confidence, surrender amendments.

They disgust me.

Politicians are incapable, it seems, of seeing beyond the next election cycle. The danger we face is not the failure of some stupid foreign adventure for oil or empire or whatever these leftist fools have talked themselves into. It is a battle with the most dangerous and implacable foe we have ever faced. A battle between civilization and barbarism.

There has been nothing like it since the Vandals, Huns, and other nomads swept into the west in the last days of the Roman Empire. Our "leaders," except for President Bush to a certain degree, simply do not understand the magnitude and immediacy of the danger. These are not just Vandals, they are Vandals with nukes and they are already inside the gates.

Iraq is not our last chance to stop them but it is our last chance to stop them without terrible losses and sacrifices. I don't want my kids sentenced to a life of total war. I don't want to be dropping H-bombs by the hundreds on these people but that is where we are headed if we fail in Iraq.

Soon our calculations will have to be made in the cold calculus of survival: Us or them. And the surrender will be spoken in Arabic, not English. The decision we must make now is how terrible will be the cost...

take a good look at these senators logic..they want our troops out of Iraq say to Kuwait. OK. Say they do that. Our government has said that there is only one main road into and out of Iraq to Kuwait.OK.
Now, while our troops are at R&R in Kuwait twiddling their
thumbs Al Qaeda knows darn well that there is only one highway into Bagdad from Kuwait. So Al Qaeda somewhere between the halfway point plant tank busting bombs all over the place while re-inforcing their positions .
So they re-conquer what we have faught for only to go back in but with the element of surprise on their side.
Our soldiers who lost their lives to take back cities is all
done in vain.

As far as I'm concerned, when our elected officials voted to authorize this war they made a commitment to absolute victory at any price that can't be taken back. They should be held to it.

War is not a game. They shouldn't have voted for war if they thought it was a bad idea. If I thought a war was a mistake I would vote against starting it even If I was the only Congressmen who felt that way and I was slitting my political throat. Before was the time for debate. This is after.

But once our boys are fighting the only debate that is acceptable is about how we are going to win.

The sooner that Warner retires, the better. I think the man is senile. We know he’s stupid.

I just watched Fred Thompson on Hannity and skeletor and he covered everything you said. He even touched on iran... nuclear exchanges in the ME... supporting internal revolution in iran... developing iron clad intel on ALL iranian nuclear facilities and making damn sure that the American people know what is what this time (swipe at the intel community or the cuts endured under the dims)... and lay plans to properly deal with the situation if needed.

He also talked of staying on high alert, as he feels iran will try something when we have to get tough... and we will... and he feels they will retaliate by doing something stupid... attack a Carrier or two in the Gulf perhaps... maybe even launch attacks here in America... even if it is by using agents of hamas and hezbutthola.

To see this man’s determination and conviction of purpose... to hear him lay blame directly upon the feet of dims and leftists... to hear him enunciate the truth that we all KNOW here on FR... to see that this man has definite plans for America... and it ain’t going to be popular with the binny and zawahiri crowd... fills me with the same hope and confidence felt long ago... that we will once again be the “Shining City upon the Hill”!

Good point.

Yes j, it has been forgotten by many. The driveby media and the dems have convinced a large segment of the brain dead citizenry, and their elected officials, that Iraq and even afghanistan are wars of "choice". Ya' know, wars that aren't essential to the security of America, just wars of political convenience.

There is no question that there were valid and compelling reasons to go to iraq. Now it has become the jihadi flame. They are drawn there from all over the world to fight the infidel, just as they were in Yugoslavia and Afghanistan.

Right there in Iraq, where we have our best and finest warriors, not here in America.

No, they don't get it.

Reminds me so much of a section in a John Barth novel (I forget which one) I read many years ago. A bunch of chickens are put into a covered aquarium with a sound asleep—and very sated—snake. Every once in a while, the snake wakes up, eats one of the chickens, and falls back to sleep. Meanwhile, the chickens cluck nervously for a while, but soon forget about the snake—until next time the snake gets hungry—and never understand their situation. Americans are reacting just like those chickens.

The e-mail you sent to Warner, did you save a copy?

If so, could you post it here on this thread to me?

I'd love to see it, if you need to edit any part for content unbecoming to Free Republic, that's fine.

Fred Thompson does seem to be saying a lot of the right things. I like Rudy as a man and I think he "gets it" but he is just too liberal on the issues...

I think our biggest problem over the last decade has been a lack of the sort of aggressive, lowdown and dirty intelligence assets we once had. We need the sort of very powerful and sinister CIA the lefties like to fantasize we have. We are still paying the price for the Church Commission hearings in the '70s.

Like Sherman said: "War is hell." We need to be as ruthless as these people and much more clever.

Bin Laden needed to be dead after the USS Cole was attacked and the embassies in Africa were bombed. We could have easily gotten him then and probably without having our hand evident. Make it look like the Iranians did it. Spread dissension and mistrust among our enemies.

In WWII the Germans were under the impression that they had a large network of agents in England. In reality the Brits controlled every single agent. As soon as the landed a new Nazi he was arrested and given a simple choice: Work for the Brits or be put up a wall and shot. Most cooperated. We, on the other hand, coddle the prisoners at Club Gitmo.

We need to harden ourselves: The sooner we get serious the sooner we can make peace with a reformed Muslim world and live in peace.

No, I didn’t save it; I just get on their web sites, use their forms and let my stream of conscience run away with itself. I told him that a good General plans for victory and not defeat, which is why he should act like a Senator and not a General, and fund the troops and give them his support.

I told him he is turning his face to Meca and his back to America (slightly over the top...but hey, when I start, I keep going), and I told him that he is spitting on my father’s grave (he is burried in Arlington and is a vet of three wars).

And those kind of things, lastly, I told him it is past time for him to retire, that at one point he was a man of stature, but the measure of the man now is non=existent.

Thanks, Laverne, and good for you for laying it on him!

I lived in Virginia until 1996, and my memory of Warner is not as respectful as yours. As a matter of fact, when I think of him, my first thought is always of a bloated Liz Taylor choking on a chicken bone in a Richmond take-out joint. John never recovered from that, as far as I know, and it's been downhill ever since.
