Former Defense official Michael Maloof wrote to comment on the frustrations expressed last week by U.S. intelligence officials on not being able to find al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, despite the belief that he is still alive and hiding somewhere in a remote area of Pakistan.
"While not surprising, I still believe that he is alive and well in the eastern part of Iran in Baluchistan," said Mr. Maloof, noting that he stated this to senior Pentagon policy official Douglas J. Feith in April 2002.
The reason: the most recent videotape of bin Laden showed a well-nourished terrorist who appeared relatively healthy. "He could not look that well or obtain such quality videotaping in Waziristan," Mr. Maloof said...

Wasn't the most recent taped believed to have been taped before 9/11? ... and even if it is a recent vid of EarlBinLaden then why couldn't someone bring a high quality video camera into waziristan to video tape him anyway?

w/e @ Binnie’s.
No, no.
I saw a press conference with the esteemed White House Press Corps this week, and there was one reporter who berated the WH spokesperson (a woman) and said that Bin Laden is carrying around a kidney dialaysis machine, from cave to cave.
She berated the WH spokesman about how they have failed to capture BL. Of course, she didn’t reveal the new plan the Democrat candidates have to capture him quickly.
Baluchistan is a big possibility but is so clannish, they don't have the cohesion to protect him. Nouristan, very likely, lots of Uzbeks nearby, his favorites, very remote.
Waziristan, most likely, lots of orginal AQ married into the clans there. Zawahiri is there, we know they are near each other.
We bumped UBL's reward last week to $50m. Rumor has it the clan hiding him wants a bigger payoff and complete relocation. Just a rumor.
Agreed - Furthermore we'd have certainly picked up increased chatter had he died or been killed. That has not happened....
But it will one of these days.....Time was on his side in the short term.....
This is plausible... and I keep asking how is it that “they” know the specifics of his current state of health, if “they” do not know where he is?
Oh BTW... I like your tag line... Saving Private Ryan?
Yes, suprize technology hasn’t caught up with him, my bet is Iran,
Though it doesn’t matter much as we win in Iraq, any country that tolerates Al Qadah after they are terminated in Iraq, is next.
The video is NOT new... if it was new, the MSM would be screaming it from the top of their houses instead if just silently slipping the poison lie.
Bin Laden Video Fools AP (New Bin Laden Video Turns Out To Be Old 2001 Video)
Why are the MSM continuing to run stories that purport the video is new when it was demonstrably an old tape - it was shown side by side with the old tape and there is no doubt taken from the first one..."one picture is worth..."
They are trying to use the "why aren't we going after Osama" as a tool to whip up more anti Bush, anti war noise.
They are lying through their teeth.
If the man hasn't been killed, he has little likelihood of still being alive with his illness -
I am really afraid for our country and our freedom -= when a country's media is so controlled and half of it's leaders in DC dedicated Socialists - we are on a precipice ...
First I have heard of this... Thank you for pointing this out.

One question: Would not the Washington Times know this... and why did they not point out the suspicion in their story. I do not question your reply, I am only wondering what is going on... should be able to trust the Washington Times to get it right... especially Bill Gertz.

UBL, like Zawahiri (and several other HVTs we've been after for the past 5 years) are eking out their survivals in the Stan/Pak border regions...
All the eyes in the sky, bells and whistles are wonderful things....but they are for sh*t more often then not in these border regions......It won't be technology that does UBL in....it will be HUMINT (just as brought in Saddam, his sons, Zarqawi and several other HVTs over the last several years).
Iran - Not likely, IMPO. The Pak border regions are UBL's best chance for survival, while controlling his own destiny and not being a pawn to be used.....

“The Taliban source who claims to have seen bin Laden’s face before burial said “he looked pale ... but calm, relaxed and confident.”
