HELP WITH A RESPONSE TO A LIBERAL DEMOCRAT

Posted on 07/21/2007 9:05:38 PM PDT by pctech

I am a subscriber to a sports website in Chicago. Normally it's a good place to go to get views on my favorite Chicago teams, but unfortunately it's also a liberal snake pit as well. These guys are so hypocritical it defies description.

I recently received a response to a message about the low approval ratings and of course they turn it around and blame it on the GOP (to which some it does rightfully belong). I am going to post this person's response in hopes that freepers can help me come up with a good reply. The message is as follows:

-------------------------------------------------------

Yes, the approval rating of Congress is lower than the president]’s. But have you stopped to wonder why?

First of all, let’s separate the House from Senate bodies. The Democrats hold a decisive majority to act and pass on legislation reflecting the will of the American public as expressed by last November’s voting. On the Senate side, the gains gave the Democrats a majority, but one that does not have (as does the House) the force to carry out the will expressed by the electorate. In short, moving legislation coming from the House, faces an uphill battle, as the reality to pass legislation with simple majorities and beat back a Bush veto with the necessary 67 votes required, well, that hasn’t happened, and most likely, won’t happen, given the entrenched attitude about protecting Bush.

So, the approval rating is right. BUT it reflects more than (as you seem to infer) disapproval of Democrats.

True, the Senate Democrats own blame in the perception and assessment the American public holds and expressed. There ARE Democrats who don’t have the cajones “to go to the mattresses” when it they should ---just as there are Republicans who say they are distancing themselves from the p[resident]’s stay-the-course policy, but don’t put their vote where their mouth is when critical end-the-war Iraq votes come up. They, more than the Democrats, are obstructionist when it comes to changing the failed policy being followed in Iraq. Their loyalty blinds them and thus they confuse supporting the troops with supporting the p[resident]. It’s more of the Sara Taylor’s statement before The Judiciary Committee: (I paraphrase) “I took an oath to support the President.” (rather than I took an oath to uphold the Constittion !!!)

That’s not all of it.

If you’ve been following the last six years, you KNOW what Bush said about changing the climate in Washington. You KNOW he said he was a “unificator” and not a divider. You KNOW he locked up (to deny access) the records of past presidents, including his own National Guard “pretend” service documents as well as personal records ----like his Yale dissertation, or his cocaine use. You KNOW he had an “Intelligence” within the Intelligence Agency (The Office of Special Plans headed up by Wolfolwitz and Feith) that was secretly manipulating policy to fit the case for the Iraq war. You KNOW the use of the 16 word statement uttered by Bush in his State of the Union speech, even though it was FALSE. You KNOW Collin Powell lied by providing misleading information about the chemical and biological “weapons” Iraq had. You KNOW Cheney lied when he said Iraq was responsible for the attacks of 9-11. You KNOW the continual litany of lies and misinformation spewed out like foam out of a rabid dog’s mouth, and the out-right crimes being perpetrated in our name. BushCo continues to feed on it’s perversion of the truth.

The American people are mad.

The people KNOW what should be done on issues. And because they do, they're not bashful about indicting the lot of politicians. The people want out of Iraq, they want to do away with the secret deals and secret prisons and the sanctioned torture BushCo gives voice to disapproving but has enabled and practiced. (Can you say Abu Grahib?). The people don't want the obstruction of congressional investigations. They don't want more lies poured on them as if they were stupid. They KNOW the truth has more force to cleanse and heal that it’s worth bringing it to light. They’ve had enough of the deception that compounds the already corrupt.

The people don't want the U.S. kidnapping of people off the street of other countries said to be "targets" and violating the sovereignty of those countries in doing so. The people want a stop to the invasion of their privacy and the devious illegal means used to invade it (Can you say Ashcroft and Comey vs. Gonzales and goons?). The people want their government's resources to fund universal health care and to repair lives (Can you say Katrina and Walter Reed?) rather than spent on ways to kill and maim and destroy human-kind. The people want competence by those charged with decision-making responsibilities affecting us. They don't want Chernoff's "gut" the barometer for announcing threats and instilling fear. They want competence framing pronouncements like that. The people KNOW and want their politicians to know right from wrong, not the Vitters, DeLays, Cunninghams, Gonzales', Abrammoffs, Foleys, Cheneys and on and on and on....and on…. And yes, there IS so much more.

The low confidence / approval rating reflects a bundle of things. But be sure of one thing. We, as a people and a country, would NOT BE IN THIS FRICKIN' MESS if it wasn't for the idiot in the White House. Yes, idiot. He works for me / us, and I for one want him gone.

I am ashamed of what has been done in our name and I find it is past the time when the House should move on Impeachment Hearings against Bush and Cheney.

That is the ONLY way to separate lies from truth. Anything short of that process remains a we said – they said contest.

Time to Impeach Bush & Cheney.

---------------------------------------------

After a couple of days I will gather all that is shared, condense it and send a reply to this "ahem" gentleman.

Thanks for all your help.

You should never argue with an idiot. They just pull you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I hope this helps.

The people want their government's resources to fund universal health care and to repair lives

The government doesn't have ANY resources except those wrested from its subjects. If people won't pay for their own healthcare, why should we trust them to choose the best people to buy them healthcare on their behalf?

Don’t waste your time.

The short answer is this: The GOP went back on all its promises. The Dems won the congress on certain promises, and has already gone back on them.

Therefore, just about everybody hates the Congress.

If this is a true Chicago sports website then the only answer is a Louisville Slugger to the back of the head. It’s the Chicago Way!

YOU KNOW that:
Clinton said there was weapons of mass destruction
The UN said ...
Congress said ...
All of the intelligence agencies said ...
France said ...
Russia said ...
Hussein said ...

So, where did Bush lie?
Besides, lying isn’t an impeachable offence, otherwise ALL polititians would be impeached.

He is wrong on so many fundamental levels, that it is nearly incomprehensible that he would ever understand any argument you make.

The answer to your question is found in his opening presumption.
