PETA Protests Fish Fry Fundraiser

Newkirk Steamed over Fried Fish

July 27, 2007 (Alaska)

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk is steamed about a fundraising slogan for an anti-capital punishment campaign that reads, “Fry Fish, Not People.”

There was probably smoke coming out of Newkirk’s ears when she heard the slogan that Alaskans Against the Death Penalty are using to raise money. Her organization sent a letter to the anti-death penalty group asking that it adopt a new motto - “Fry Onions, Not People.”

PETA’s letter said, “Serving the corpses of animals at an anti-death penalty event is like serving cigarettes at an anti-cancer fundraiser.” It went on to demand that the group also change its menu for an annual fish fry, urging them to serve vegetarian dishes.

Just watched Michelle Malkin grill a PETA spokesman on TV, then checked my email and found this news release.

I am pro capital punishment, by the way, but this is funny.

Save the onions!!!!!

What’s wrong with frying both fish and criminals?

PETA people seem to be a strange breed of people. At a trial for a man who killed his dog (in public), there were quite a few PETA members there every day. One of the ladies had a purse that was furry, and looked just like a live cat, with the strap going around the ‘cat’s’ belly.

All during the trial, she sat in the courtroom and stroked her purse, and scratching it under the chin and behind the ears.

jazusamo,

When I post a thread I always think of you, but can never seem to type the name in correctly (hit and miss posting, in a rush). I need to start a ping list. Thank goodness somebody else always pings you, cause I enjoy your posts so much.

She's an idiot.... animals are NOT the same as people. One wouldn't expect an animal rights wacko to know that, though,

Admittedly, their influence has lessoned, but the news media still RUSHES to cover everything they have to say.

Like I’ve said before on these forums, there could be (and there has been) thousands of Iranian students marching against their government, and this event receives ZERO news coverage, but two naked PETA girls in a cage receives coverage on all the networks.

I have just about quit watching FOX News (used to be my favorite) because I am so sick of the latest binge pulled by Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and whatever that latest girl soap opera’s name is. I guess there are folks that care about this stuff, but I don’t.

BTW, I DO care about animal rights issues, not so much PETA, but the more powerful, influential ones like the Humane Society of the U.S. They spend MILLIONS annually (and have the ear of lawmakers) trying to end American’s right to eat meat, wear fur, raise animals for consumption, and to end animal research (which saves many human lives).

I normally place a higher value on people than I do on animals, but in Ms. Newkirk’s case, I’m willing to make an exception.

Well, I guess the solution is to “Let them eat cake”. She lost her head after making this statement, didn’t she?
