Before this is over -- in fact before it barely gets started -- there will be those out there more than willing to fan the flames of stupidity, trying to craft this into something it is not. There will be idiots out there who will attempt to diminish the severity of the crime, as if despicable acts of cruelty against dogs are merely some cultural and class-based misunderstanding.
This is not exactly what I would call a smart line of defense. Ive heard from rednecks and country boys and inner-city underground cultists who swear dog fighting and cock fighting isnt much different from ultimate fighting, and that anyone with a healthy blood lust would understand. That of course is preposterous. Animals have no free will. Humans do. If a man chooses to engage in a no-holds-barred caged brawl, thats his business.
But animals have no such options in the fight business.

That would require cognition and deliberation.
Can’t argue with that post except I’d like to hear of his sources. The wussification of America is especially true. As evidence, look at the post before this one that I’ve replied to at number 27.
Hey, what are you doing, highjacking this thread and trying to make it about slavery?
No kidding? After 6 years on the forum that's the first time I ever heard that.
Thanks for making that point. I'm reminded of that thread about the Vick case that had the word "Unfathomable" acts that were committed. It left me wondering if the author knew what the word unfathomable meant?
I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not....but yes...it’s done more than you realize apparently.
He drew a comparison to the “yankeefied wussification of America”, therefore, an alaogy was necessary.
Glad someone else sees it that way. Thank you.
While I wouldn't want to be pedantic about words, "civilization" means living in cities. It differentiates nomadic people, or people who live in jungles from those people who settled down, built cities, established governments and agriculture and started building cultures that had longevity, permanence and made contributions to the future.
Civilization is very much an artificial construct. To describe just any ol' gathering of humans I would use the word "society".
Right on the money, Aquinasfan! Right on.
From urbandictionary.com (note... these are definitions submitted online, not unlike Wikipedia). Nevertheless, here 'tis:
1. Keepin it real
When staying true to your "roots"(i.e.,"Real") or your priorities or principles as a person and applying to a certain type of a event or Situation.
Example:
When Rodney was confronted by the police officer for speeding and driving recklessly,he had 2 choices. 1)Either get out of the vehicle and surrender to the police officers or 2)Confront the officers. He decided to "Keep it real" so he advances toward the officer, not knowing that the officers would tazer him and beat him to the ground. His actions leading up to the "LA Riots" Rodney is a perfect example of "Keepin it Real" but its also a good example of "When keepin it real goes wrong"
***
(FR poster comment: Sooo... Rodney King refusing to surrender to the cops was just him "staying true to his roots"? Okay, I believe I see what the comments upthread meant about the destructiveness of this phrase. It's being used to cloak uncivilized and criminal behavior behind a "It's a black thing, you wouldn't understand..." excuse. I think.)
*****
2. Keepin it Real
n. keeping "the game" honest, whatever the game may be.
Wanda tried to maintain her composure when the man insulted her, but she decided to Keep it real
Thanks, Hammer. Best definition yet!
Just keepin’ it real.
Good Lord, this is all so idiotic, isn’t it? Its like leaning into a right cross, deliberately.
In common usage, it seems to be "behave like an inner-city gangsta thug"
Still not sure what you mean by that.
So if Vick’s a villain to PETA and a victim to the NAACP, what is he to their bastard offspring Al Sharpton???
Man in a state of nature is uncontrolled, violent, and selfish. But in an advanced society, we establish rules and enforcement mechanisms that create a more harmonious environment in which to live. We make it. It's not something that springs out of thin air. It's a construct.
I agree completely.
Besides, why do wealthy white liberals think that poor whites and poor Blacks are so different from one another? Wasn't the civil rights movement about us all being the same?
I'm still waiting for liberals to make fun of Black Fundamentalists.
Not really necessary. What you posted was not an analogy. And for the record, not everyone who uses the word "Yankee" or respects Southern culture uses that phrase to refer only to the years from 1861 to 1865.
I also thought it was pretty clear that when I used the phrase "yankeefied wussification" in the context of dogfighting, I wasn't endorsing that view. Not clear enough, I guess.
Someone must have put something in my drinking water.
This is a good article from PMSNBC. I even sensed David Robinson’s appearance before he was mentioned.
I was slightly disappointed that the author steered away from Kobe Bryant.
