Forty-Two
8/9/07 | 60Gunner

Posted on 08/09/2007 12:07:38 PM PDT by 60Gunner

I turned 42 years old yesterday. There are a few ways of looking at this age. A pessimist, of course, would say that I'm already halfway to 84. On the other hand, there is some significance attached to this age. For example:

I'm twice as much fun as a 21-year-old; I'm young enough to be naughty and old enough to appreciate it. My age also happens to be the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

It isn't so bad. Except maybe when I try to get into/out of my car, chair, bed, etc. and make the same oof! sound my dad made when he was 42. That gets a little irritating. And I have noticed that the women who flirt with me older.

But to a 70- or 80- year-old, I am still a "young man." I'll take it where I can get it.

Heck, when you were born Lyndon Baines Johnson was President and we were just starting to gear up for Viet Nam. Think of all the changes since then?

Considering you are about half way, or less, home, I think you should be wondering just what the next 42 years are going to bring you.

You are now 42.

You know the answer to Life, The Universe and Everything!

Now, if you just knew what the question was....

I am 42 and view it as the last year I can get away with having a mid-life crisis. I guess after that I need to act all grown up. Better get in the Corvette while I still can.

*sigh* I turn 50 in Nov. I hope it feels like 49, but not betting the ranch on it.

LOTS more creaks and oofs and groans nowadays ;)

Sometimes the bones sound like Snap, Crackle Pop.

You know you are old when the 20-something chicks start looking
away when you pass in the corridor.

Or maybe you simply need some deodorent!

I’m 41 (today). (Really:).

I am no longer silent as I dress in the morning... If I’m not “oofing” when I lean down to put my socks on, my joints themselves will supply a steady stream of snaps, crackles, and pops on the way down the stairs. But hearing all of this reminds me I’m alive.

I no longer have a young man’s passionate energy... But wisdom has supplanted the wasted fire that I used to need to overcome obstacles.

I am not as fast as I once was... But I’m more agile because I can recognize the obstacles much further down the road.

My hair isn’t as brown as it once was... But the growing gray (white?!?) population of hairs is a badge of honor, signifying the battles joined and won that have shaped my life.

My eyes don’t see as well as they once did... But that gives me a reason to excuse the double-take on some young lady that my wife might catch! ;-P

Aches and pains? I’ve got them all... But one doesn’t turn one’s back on friends cultivated throughout a lifetime.

Is today your Birthday, 60Gunner?

Actually we get a max of 120 years. You have a ways to go before you get to the half way mark. You are still on the kid side:’)
