F.R. defamed as "Hate Site" by Fox 5 News! [FOX News' Bill O'Reilly started this B/S]

I was listening to the news out of the corner of my ear when I heard FreeRepublic specifically mentioned as a "hate site" about fifteen minutes ago.

Ostensibly the long report was about the Klan using the web to recruit new wackos. Then the focus turned to Casa Maryland, and their director who claimed that calls for his murder had circulated on the internet by anti-immigrant bigots. It was then that the anchor identified FR by name as a hate site.

Same here. :) There were many times when the kiddos were itty bitty and relatives were visiting that one would run over to us with “Mommy, Daddy, so-and-so just said the (whisper) hate word!”

The problem with your testimonial is that I don’t know if it is a result of your own post being deleted, or if it is a result of the entire thread being deleted.

I remember about 5 years ago there was some major shakeups here on FR about people being banned. These were people that were longtime members. I know they were trying to form a competing site separate from FR. I don’t know what happened about that. I don’t know if that ever happened.

I used to go to the ABC news bulletin board alot back then just to attack the liberal idiots about their anti war stance. There was a guy retired from the airforce that called himself “dogs-of-war”, and his wife was “barbie” that frequented that site. I guess they started their own site. I think they called it “dogs of war”. But I don’t know for sure. He may have been a member here too at that time, I just can’t remember.

I think I first got attracted to this site by a fella that goes by “shooter25” or something like that. I don’t remember if I met him through dogs-of-war or what. It’s all fuzzy. I didn’t get into online discussions untill 9-11 happened.

That's more than a bit past the "hate" line.

And then again, you have the Keyboard Kommandos whose sole suggestion for dealing with the Islamic world is to kill them all.

Folks need to realize that people who aren't used to FR (and even some of us who are used to FR) see such talk -- and the people who do the talking -- as dangerous and foolish.

The word “hate” has not been used in our home. Here, it’s considered a 4-letter word. We’ve taught our children to use other words and phrases, like “I can’t stand that” or “I don’t like that.” “Hate” truly is a strong word; an ugly word.

There’s no profanity in that post. There’s no vulgar language. That post should stand, in my opinion. Free speech and all that, right? IF the recipient is offended, it’s that person’s responsibility to defend themselves or launch a counter-attack that also falls below the indecency radar.
