F.R. defamed as "Hate Site" by Fox 5 News! [FOX News' Bill O'Reilly started this B/S]
Fox 5 News ^ | 8/16/07 | crusher

I was listening to the news out of the corner of my ear when I heard FreeRepublic specifically mentioned as a "hate site" about fifteen minutes ago.

Ostensibly the long report was about the Klan using the web to recruit new wackos. Then the focus turned to Casa Maryland, and their director who claimed that calls for his murder had circulated on the internet by anti-immigrant bigots. It was then that the anchor identified FR by name as a hate site.

I’m a bit to angry to even put into words how disgusting this report is. Thank you Kirstin for meeting this issue head on. Conservatives shouldn’t have to put up with false labels or slander.

It seems clear to me that you are earnestly trying to be thoughtful and reasonable in your posts regarding this issue. However, I am struck by the above, in which it appears that you believe that the correct response to the posts in which you perceive racist or nazi-like attitudes is to respond to the poster. Imho, that is not the correct way to handle such posts. That's one of the functions of the "abuse" button.

Maybe you're correct. But at times, I suspect that the sheer volume of "abuse" responses would tend to overwhelm the moderators.

I'd much rather that FReepers act responsibly, and thus avoid the need for the "abuse" button in the first place.

You know what the liberals can do about FR? Kiss our asses, starting with JimRob's. That's what they can do.

You seem to forget that FR is an open forum full of infiltrators...especially during hot button debates. It amazes me that so many people forget that when they come here.

Many of the posts that are offensive are posted by trolls. The only option is the abuse button. I'd rather the issue hadn't come up at all, but we humans are imperfect, it seems.

I hear you livius, and you are right, most of the more insane posters have disappeared (whether banned, or otherwise). Which, btw, also gives credence to my theory that many of them were trolls, and operatives!

Someone else pointed out that the comments about Hispanics/Latinos/Mexicans were in response to the fact that that is indeed the majority of the make-up of the illegal immigrants in our country. It is a VERY vocal and prominent group when it comes to pushing for amnesty, etc... This is merely due to our proximity with such a corrupt, poverty-stricken country/countries to the south of us. And this is also the border that is breached on a minute-by-minute basis!

I myself, tried to point out that the whole amnesty thing did NOT just apply to Hispanics/Latinos/Mexicans, and did indeed apply to illegal Immigrants of ANY nationality, ethnic group or country. I repeated this in almost every post I ever made on the subject. Many, are focused on that specific part of the problem because they (as I) live (or have lived) among this group of people and have seen first-hand what a large illegal immigrant population does to our society.

They are also focused on that due to the fact that it was groups like La Raza and other Hispanic/Latino/Mexican groups that were working in direct-association and lobbying in Washington, with the support of our elected officials to demand amnesty, citizenship, welfare, and voting rights for illegal immigrants. (I.E. CAIR wasn’t speaking out demanding amnesty for the thousands of illegal immigrants from the ME that have overstayed their visas, and are living among us illegally... precisely because they don’t WANT us to realize there are indeed Radical Islamic terrorists in our midst, and granting amnesty to those who identify themselves as Mexican citizens (a large number of ME terrorists are in Mexico and adopt Hispanic names to come in undetected) would take care of hiding those who are here for illegal purposes (to make Jihad).)

Of course, one of the other unfortunate reasons that people are focused on those illegal immigrants who are of Hispanic/Latino/Mexican originas is because they stand out due to their skin color, and language... (My sister is Half-Mexican so I’m very familiar with the anti-Mexican racism that is in our society). As you asserted (haven’t heard it before), but Irish people are one of/the(?) largest groups of illegal immigrants in our country. I think a lot of people forget that people from Europe and across the oceans do indeed come here illegally (usually by way of overstaying their visas which is a lot different than how the majority of Hispanic/Latino/Mexican illegal aliens do). And, yes, these people do blend in to our society as they make more of an attempt (in general) to assimilate, and in some cases speak English very well already.

I myself saw many Russians, Poles, and other ethnic groups in Denver that lived in the same area I did (a low-income largely Mexican area) — presumably because of the status of Denver as a sanctuary city, and out neighborhood’s proximity to day-labor businesses, lower rents, and mass transit, and ethnic stores — not to mention a totally corrupt DMV office a few blocks away that was busted for selling licenses to illegals a few years back (after I moved).

It’s indeed unfortunate that more people didn’t address the problem of amnesty in a more “homogenous” manner. Because indeed it is not just Mexicans/Hispanics/Latinos that are causing the problems. However, if they did not wish to be singled out, I would’ve suggested that they fought for amnesty for ALL illegals instead of just ones that belonged to their ethnic group (which they did...).

Remember, Bush also stood next to Vincente Fox, in Mexico, and called American citizens, who were attempting to protect our border, VIGILANTES.

I wasted many hours arguing with open-borders Bushbots who refused to acknowledge this fact.

The problem is that this is an internet channel.

It can and now IS blocked by commercial blocking software and has a “label” and is pigeon holed.

They are trying to jam, like a radio frequency. The left because they don’t like what we say, and the commercial interests like FNC which are trying to divert trafic to their free (advertiser supported) sites. (every night Oreily pushes his paid site memberships), Hanity pushe his haniblog.

This is like the british trying to shut down the liberty tree, or forbid prinint presses publishing “common sense.”

I would never frequent a site that was by design hateful, bigoted, or anything else along those lines.

Of course we wouldn't.

FreeRepublic has been my home page for nine years (today's my 9th anniversary). I hit this site dozens of times @ over a 24 hour period.

It's the best site on the internet...bar none.

The MSM was free to mention everything you just said.

They too were focused on the vocal mexican radical illegal alien advocates.
however there were doing it by design.

We also did not see one million illegal alien irish people in the streets waiving irish flags screamming “ah wee kaaaaan!”

Oh...my...God. [dismayed] This cannot be ignored. FR must stand up for itself in the media! Any way to get Hannity on this in a positive way? Dr. Levin? RUSH??? I am absolutely appalled at this concerted attack against ALL FReepers, because a few well-place plants/DULurkers are trying their best to get FR designated a 'hate site'.

In addition to the immigration RINOs we are hated by liberals who saw the fall of Dan Rather as our fault. No one likes a group that has power and the will to use it.

actually, DU is NOT the winner for "vile, treacherous & threatening site".

should you NEED "a dose" of HATE/ANTI-SEMETIC propaganda/TREASON check out "daily kos" .

the "daily kos posters" & the HATE-filled FILTH they post make me GAG!

recently one of those "oh, so wunnerful, wunnerful" LEFTISTS/fascists/"progressives"/DIMocRATS said that Senator Lieberman should be sent to the GAS CHAMBER, because of his support for Israel & the war in Iraq/Afghanistan.

You appear to be confusing passionate political discourse with hate. Sure, things can get quite heated around here, but that’s to be expected given the topics discussed. But it’s not hate.

“You seem to forget that FR is an open forum full of infiltrators...especially during hot button debates.”

EXACTLY! MANY of those who posted clearly racist remarks were eventually found to be trolls, operatives, etc... and were dealt with accordingly.

We will NEVER be free of these people unless we severly restrict membership and sign-up procedures. I don’t think Jim would want to do that though as someone (or 2 or 3 people) would need to work 24/7 just to approve new people, and even then we couldn’t guard against imposters...

After all, this is supposed to be a site that celebrates Freedom of Speech and promotes the ideals of our Country and its Constitution. People also forget that with freedom comes responsibility, and it is everyone’s responsibility to present their ideas in a respectful manner — as it is also everyone’s responsibility to hit the abuse button when they see a post that is truly over the line... That’s why it’s there in the first place, because of this problem with infiltrators/agitators. And, it’s also why we have the VIKING KITTIES and ZOTS at our disposal! LOL
