I read the piece in the Detroit Free Press.

Otherwise known as the Detroit Gay Press - about an 85 on the Leftist Scale.

The Gay Press is where I first began to understand that the media was "omitting" some stuff that they didn't want me reading - and that was nearly 20 years ago.

The Gay Press has gotten Gayer and Lefter since then...

“Otherwise known as the Detroit Gay Press”

Oh, I definitely considered the source. It’s my understanding there were much easier ways to avoid the draft. It might be wishful thinking on my part, but I couldn’t help wondering if Ted was messing with their heads.

Agreed! I neglected to say that in 1969 my brother already had enlisted in the USAF to avoid the draft.

He was only a couple of weeks ahead of his Greetings letter.

It seems this thread has been hijacked by Hitlery devotees. Believe what you choose to believe.

Here’s your answer:

“The registration requirement was suspended in April 1975. It was resumed again in 1980 by President Carter in response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Registration continues today as a hedge against underestimating the number of servicemen needed in a future crisis”

Rat, I did not mean to offend. See post 120 for the type of answer I expected. Unless you felt otherwise. The answer you gave seemed to me to be trying to hide your true feelings that the answer was in fact you felt men like me were chickenhawks or the like.

But maybe I was wrong to assign such feelings to you, okay?

He claims that 30 days before his draft board physical, he disavowed personal hygiene. The last ten days he ingested nothing but junk food and Pepsi, and with a week to go until the physical, he stopped using the bathroom altogether. When the big day came, he had been living in excrement-caked and urine-stained pants.

Even if Ted Nugent really said these things in 1990, (and that has not been verified) it seems like hyperbole on Nugent's part.

Firstly, ten days of junk food and Pepsi would have absolutely no effect on a draft board physical, I dont believe.

I also don't believe he went to the physical in excrement-caked and urine-stained pants.

Don't know why, but I just dont believe Nugent's own so-called memories of himself.

In fact I see it more as "Vietnam era braggadocio" -- as anyone who lived thru this era can attest to.

Vietnam, far more than the Iraq situation, was indeed a useless war. Not its concept, but for Heaven's sake, we just sent young men to die and the US politicians like DEMOCRAT PRES JOHNSON refused to allow the US attack the North or to bomb Hanoi, and other North Vietnam strategic places.

IT WAS a SUICIDAL war in many ways for US forces, plain and simple, and that's what turned many initial supporters off.

And I supported the war most of the time, even back in the 60s.

I registered for the draft, and was classified 4W, or something like that, which was 'too young to be drafted.'

You can always count on a whiny media puke to be around to defend the Commiecrats, no matter how low they sink.

“As much as I hate John Kerry and Al Gore, they actually WENT to Vietnam.”

Most of us know about Kerry’s, too smart by half, screw up that got him involved in combat in Vietnam, a mistake that he rectified quickly.

I think the influence that is evidenced in Al Gore’s military history should be the greatest example of power, and political connections.

Gore joined on a two year enlistment, that meant go straight to combat arms with no options, but instead Gore landed a journalist spot, in 1969 no less.

Gore wasn’t sent to Vietnam, but then about 7 months before his discharge, he does go there and is assigned a personal bodyguard that knows the country, to prevent Gore from entering any dangerous zones, he spends a few months and then is sent back and receives an early discharge, having served his 22 months. The early discharge was not unusual, but when fit into Gore’s record, it should be examined, The Army did not derive much use out the Al Gore contribution to say the least.

To me it shows a low ranking enlisted man with almost unmatched ticket punching success.

The U.S.Army did not let soldiers change MOS or send them to Vietnam when they only had five months to go, it would be a total waste of money to do things like that (and they didn’t do it).

The media never picked up on it, perhaps because it is hard to explain to civilians the internal processes of the Army, but Gore’s military history is the one that should have been examined.
