I'm trying to create two bulletin boards in my room and need help finding information.
Bulletin board #1 - is going to have news from Iraq. I want to highlight the areas where fighting is and isn't occuring, collect news article headlines about the war and string them to the locations (there'll be a map). Any ideas for good information about the goings on in Iraq?
Bulletin board #2 - election cycle. Will have the current candidates and info about them. I want to find a history of comments they've made about Iraq, Health care, military, taxes, welfare, and other 'hot topics'. My goal is to help my students pay attention to what's REALLY being said by these candidates...what was said in the past and what is being said today. Any ideas of websites that might help me out?
I know Rush keeps a 'stack of stuff' that would help me, but I'm not a 'member' and cannot access it. Any help would be appreciated.
I'd like teachers to teach reading, writing, arithmetic, the water cycle, music, art, etc.
There are several places on this site dealing with candidates.

You are right, of course. However the Presidential election is always discussed in Class rooms, as long as the facts are facts on the candidates.
What age / grade?............
I would want my children to receive facts. What if the person is teaching current events? There is reading involved but why learn how to read if you aren’t going to put the ability to use learning things. As I said, I would like the facts to be taught rather than some of the stuff that is being taught.
Send Sandrat a message stating that you want to be on his ping list. You’ll get a dozen or so high quality news articles every day about our progress in Iraq. You’ll have more than you’ll ever be able to use.
sorry I left some information out. I’m am trying to keep bias out of both bulletin boards. But I want to make sure they aren’t getting their only information from the mainstream media. I teach 7th and 8th grade social studies, so both topics are relevant. I do strongly believe that they need to SEE what is happening in Iraq...see the map...see where things are going well...see where the struggles still exist. As far as the politics/election...I am planning on having all candidates as fair game...dem/rep/libertarian/green/wacko/etc...
Thanks for the suggestions so far! I can’t believe how quickly the responses are coming!
If facts are presented without bias, then that is good.
You haven’t said whether you are in public/private education nor if you students have access to computers at the school.
If they have access I’d suggest you let them be the source of much of the info via their abilities to search and hunt for items for postings. That allows them to be involved and they learn much from that approach rather than just seeing items posted on a BB....
just my opinion.
May I chime in?
Have a resume with the following:
1. Private sector job experience
2. Most number of employees managed
3. Largest budget managed
4. Foreign service experience
5. Availability for personal and unscripted interviews
6. Constitutional ethics
optional: Memory problems: the Number of times they “did not recall.”
Get on Sandshark’s Ping List. Seriously, I get more info from him than from my hubby, and my hubby is over there. LOL
One internet site each of your students should be checking is the Corps of Engineers Gulf Region: http://www.grd.usace.army.mil/
