Dead cyclist identified with the help of iPod

Medical investigators used an iPod serial number Friday to figure out the identity of a bicyclist killed when he collided with a school bus in Minneapolis on Thursday morning.

Adam Ray Finley, 30, was killed about two blocks away from his Calhoun Boulevard apartment while riding in an intersection north of Lake Calhoun about 10 a.m. Thursday.

Until Friday afternoon, authorities were baffled as to his identity because he was carrying no identification. The medical examiner had sought the public's help in identifying the body and was preparing to release a sketch.

But Friday afternoon, an investigator for the Hennepin County medical examiner's office took an iPod recovered from the victim to an Apple outlet. An employee there contacted Apple corporate security, which in turn called back with the name and address of the person who had registered the iPod's serial number with Apple, investigators said.

Ironic since, if he wasn’t wearing his iPod, he might have heard the friggin’ BUS coming at him before it was too late.

Never bring a bicycle to a bus fight.

Definitely irony if he was listening to it at the time. I take an iPod to the Y when I workout, but I don’t actually put it on until I get to the Y. The article doesn’t say if he was wearing it at the time, I don’t think.

However, my guess is that he was wearing it, but I don’t know if they’ll know for sure, unless witnesses come forward.

Maybe he was listening to Jan and Dean’s “Dead Man’s Curve?”

LOL! Maybe The Doors singing “The End?” “Don’t Fear The Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult? “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” sung by Dylan?

No, those are all too old. I think it must have been “Dead Man’s Party” by Oingo Boingo. :D

Amusing since his fatal collision was due to being so absorbed in his iPod music. The soundtrack to your life and to your death

Live by the iPod
Die by the iPod

Eggs Actly.

I wonder in the decades ago joggers/women would run with headsets on.

Can’t hear the creep sneaking up on her.

I wonder (I don’t wear headphones or have an I pod) what other than tech ability to download is the diff in safety when someone has earplugs drowning out the awareness hearing provides around them in scetchy situations.

I guess I’ll have to rain on the humor parade. God rest his soul. I mock evildoers when they die, but this is a shame that his life was cut short. My son is a competitive cyclist and has had a few bad accidents. I worry about him riding on the streets of SF.

Agreed.

But just wait, tomorrow this thread will have 300 posts and it will be marked with vitriol between drivers vs. cyclists (just a pre-emptive conclusion - both are right, and both are wrong). Such is the way of FreeRepublic.
