We had a pet screech owl when I was a kid, for the same reason these people had the pet deer. Our little screech owl was born with a club foot and couldn’t hold onto a branch (my brother found him under a tree when the owl was a fledge). My parents cautioned us not to tell people about the owl since he would be taken from us. I have read that screech owls live about 3 years in the wild, but he lived 17 years with my parents, and was happy the whole time. Perhaps he wasn’t “free” but he was (a) alive, (b) well fed, and (c) an affectionate and valued member of our family.

It’s not “big government” that I hate; it’s stupid government. But it seems inevitable that big government must be stupid. It can only go by predetermined rules, no matter how badly they fit the actual situation.

LOL We got plenty of Buzards too. If it was up on the back side of my property I wouldn’t mind. But my neighbors who live across the hollow downwind are catching it. I even told the wildlife they can drag it off up the ridge or whatever as I have about 28 acres. Even the game officer said disposal of it wasn’t my problem but theirs. Next one goes in a trailer about 1:00am and becomes instant road kill several miles off. Then they just call the hi-way department.

I was thinking the same thing. What kind of creep would rat on the people that are taking care of this deer?

Hang them.

Boy, we’ve sure got our priorities straight in this country, don’t we? Here demons from Hell are trying to wipe all of us out and we’re most worried about Bambi’s social life.

Deer are the most natural prey animal in the world; they were never intended to serve anybody as pets nor is there any reasonable way to keep them as pets. In areas in which they’re not being preyed on, they quickly overpopulate and come to a point at which most of them start either dying of starvation or getting run over by vehicles.

They should protect it under the Endangered Species Act.

It’s obviously a rare cross-breed between a deer and a dairy cow.

....being the dirty ‘crats they are, they probably enjoy it.

Oh yea, I was thinking the same thing while I was writing my flame but I had to write it. Knowing how they would treat my thoughts wasn't going to stop me from telling the truth. It only prevented me from using the language they probably understand the most.

IF anyone from the agency in question is reading this, I hope God has mercy on your soul, because you deserve none from the public that you “serve” in the way that a bull serves a cow. Have a nice day.

It’s a symptom of the same problem. How are we going to deal with the problem? And don’t say voting.

Well now, that's a good idea. I am proud to be an American as the Americans of old, before power hungry liberals tried and are trying to inflict themselves upon us. I'm very proud of the family who saw an injured deer and did the right thing because they could. Laws that interfer with the good that people try to do are laws that need changing or deleting.

This might not be the proper place to interject this but I received this in an email this evening and it really fits here:

We need more Judges like this one.

In Florida, an atheist became incensed over the preparation of Easter and Passover holidays. He decided to contact his lawyer about the discrimination inflicted on atheists by the constant celebrations afforded to Christians and Jews with all their holidays while atheists had no holiday to celebrate. The case was brought before a wise judge. After listening to the long passionate presentation by the lawyer, the Judge banged his gavel and declared "Case Dismissed."

The lawyer immediately stood and objected to the ruling and said, "Your Honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? Christians have Christmas, Easter and many other observances. Jews have Passover, Yom Kppur and Hanukkah......yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays."

The judge leaned forward in his chair and simply said "Obviously your client is too confused to even know about, much less celebrate, his own atheists holiday!"

The lawyer pompously said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any such holiday for atheists. Just when might that holiday be, your Honor?"

The judge said, "Well it comes every year on exactly the same date.....April 1st! Since our calendar sets April 1st as April Fools Day, consider that Psalm 14:1, Psalm 53 states, The fool says in his heart, there is no God. Thus, in my opinion, if your client says there is no God, then by scripture he is a fool, thus April 1st is his holiday!"

Pray that some day our courts will be full of these kinds of judges.....maybe then, we can put God back where He belongs.........in everything we do....

Way to go, Judge!

GREAT story! Probably apocryphal - but I’m going to share it with everyone I know anyway. :-)

People shouldn’t harbor wild animals. They should stick with tame, gentle, government-approved pets. Like pit bulls.

Are they really thinking of euthanasing her? I thought Oregon was just into euthanasing vulnerable people.

My daughter went through a similar incident here in NC.

She found an abandoned fawn ( she’s an animal control officer and has several wildlife licenses) and took it home, lives on 10 acres.
She called the NC wildlife folks. They said because of overcrowding they would pick up the fawn and destroy it.
She called some state officials raising hell.
Wildlife called back and ‘claimed’ they would find a home for the fawn.

She told them ,next time she gets one they won’t find out about it.

Most of these stupid laws, esp the zero tolerance ones are put there to absolve the official of having to make a decision. The law does it for them.’
They can’t make the wrong one because ‘it’s the law.
What we end up with is zero common sense.

Hellow Oregon Wildlife folks . . .

The deer actions you have taken and reportedly planned sound like

. . .

clueless bureaucratic letter of the law idiocies gone to seed.

I’m ashamed your State is even in the West. What a travesty on common sense and decency.

I guess all’s now fair in government tyranny and stupidity.

Sheesh.

Nice story. It also seems that you were lucky as no one reported you for having the Owl.
