PURE HORSERACE: No Surrender for McCain
CBS news ^ | 9.13.07 | CBS News reporter Dante Higgins

Posted on 09/13/2007 9:47:46 AM PDT by meandog

Sen. John McCain hit the campaign trail yesterday to kickoff of his "No Surrender" tour after spending the day on Capitol Hill listening to Gen. David Petraeus testify before the Senate Armed Services Committee. McCain, a vocal supporter of this year's troop surge in Iraq, used his time at the hearing to claim he's been on the right side of the war debate all along.

McCain's jet touched down in Sioux City, Iowa, Tuesday night to begin what some are dubbing a relaunch of a campaign struggling with fundraising difficulties and staff departures. His audience of about 300 people, mostly seniors and veterans, snacked on ham sandwiches while waiting, getting books signed by war hero Col. Bud Day -- the namesake of the airfield where McCain was set to land.

The event began when McCain's jet rolled into view of the hangar draped in American flags and his No Surrender bus met him to drive him to the stage.

McCain was introduced by Day, a decorated Air Force pilot who was a prisoner of war with McCain in Vietnam. Day argued that McCain's POW experience helped provide him with the experience and character required to be president, and that he was cut from the same cloth as Republican icons Ronald Reagan and Teddy Roosevelt.

I am no fan of McCain, but I love this. The more media coverage he gets, the more his “No Surrender” message gets out and undermines the Democrats message of defeat.

I salute John McCain for his service and galantry, but I say he can't win.

FRED VETS, SIGN UP TODAY AT...

Why should a vet sign up for a non-vet; especially if the non-vet could have been a vet when his country was in need?

Unfortunately for McCain, Bush is (unfortunately) preparing for a withdrawal. With the war winding down, that throws the "now what" question into the air. This is where McCain lacks the beef, and thus he is running on his last breath.

I'll stick with Fred.

I’m with the posters so far on this thread.

McCain has ticked me off plenty of times, but I’m damn proud of him on this one.

I wish the “other 10 percent” of McCain made up for the courageous 90 percent. But alas, you can’t be 90% loyal, 10% turncoat and not be a dirty rotten turncoat.

momma always said.. IF YOU DON’T STAND FOR SOMETHING YOU WILL FALL FOR ANYTHING.

1/2 of the country is falling for the lies of the left and msm. I am not McCain van either and would not vote for him, but...... he is standing for a good cause and for that I this time ... thank him.

The leftists claim to want withdrawal foremost, but it is a lie. More than anything, they want defeat for America. I mean, a declaration that the surge has worked would politically expedite withdrawal, and they should endorse it if their goal really is withdrawal. But they do not, and their goal is not.

Nothing scares the anti-American movement more than the concept of victory - at their core, most in the "anti-war" movement would prefer to keep the troops in Iraq longer, under conditions ensuring defeat, rather than bring them home sooner under the banner of victory. That, in a nutshell, is also the difference between those on the left who are against the war in Iraq, and those on the right (many paleoconservatives) who are against the war in Iraq (myself included). /rant

IF YOU DON’T STAND FOR SOMETHING YOU WILL FALL FOR ANYTHING

Reminds me of that old Aaron Tippin song:

You’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything
You’ve got to be your own man, not a puppet on a string
Never compromise what’s right, and uphold your family name
Yeah you’ve got to stand for something or you’ll fall for anything
