Fred Thompson's blind support
SmallGovTimes.com ^ | September 16th, 2007 | Steve Adcock, SmallGovTimes.com

Fred Thompson must be the luckiest guy in American politics – he doesn't yet have a platform available on his web site, skips debates, waits for months before announcing under the assumed role of “testing the waters”, records videos on his web site and somehow manages to bring in impressive support from the American people.

Unfortunately, the Hunterites will not sit with their man in 2nd place. They may not even support Fred when he is the nominee.

“””excuse me — I live in California. California is also one of the most liberal states in the union.
Wasn’t Ronald Reagan the two-term governor of California before he was the GOP nominee for president?
Your argument doesn’t even hold one drop of water.”””

Number of Governors of California by party affiliation Party Governors
Republican 22
Democratic 15
American 1

President Reagan was Governor of California 1967-1975!

Not very liberal back then!

You’re right. I was thinking presidency, not governorship.

When I read this, my first thought was, this sounds like it was written by a Ron Paul groupie.

Sure enough, when I went to the website, I found that the article written just previous to this one argues that Ron Paul is the only candidate who can be trusted to secure our borders:

California is also one of the most liberal states in the union.

It wasn't like that when Reagan was Governor.

Simple reason for this: Americans don’t like fakes, and Americans don’t like covetous shills.

Americans DO like an everyman with common sense positions who speaks frankly and runs just to do some good.

Fred saw the door open for a true conservative to enter the race...and he entered. Fred hasn’t been running for literally YEARS like most of the other candidates.

He’s a good guy, and I like him. So there you go fred-haters.

Yes.

And you have a penchant for posting some of the most asinine silliness while at the same time having a screenname like ‘Brilliant’, which is always amusing.

So I guess we ignore the American Conservative Union rating and go with your rating instead...

Uh-huh.

I love ya as a fellow member of the “Paul is Nuts” club, but when I look at your guy Mitt and Fred, calling out Thompson on Conservative bona fides is a bit of a stretch for you.

Yeah what a silly comparison to make.

Fact: California voted Republican in the presidential election in EVERY YEAR between 1960 and 1988, except for 64.

You have to face facts that Romney is a liberal. And whether he tricked the libs in mass to vote for him by presenting himself as a fellow lib or not isn’t really important.

Yes, I showed my age ( not that old) but California didn’t used to be very liberal.

You know I don’t think that is fair to alot of Hunterites. Most of them are totally straight-up. Having said that, there are a few, and I think everyone knows who I am referring to, whose tactics are less than positive who I agree would probably not vote for Fred if he is the nominee.

These type are losers!

LOL!! Thompson “skips debates”! There hasn’t been a debate since he declared his candidacy.

Oh, c'mon C.L., you're not even trying! Allow me:

Fred Thompson has skipped numerous debates. Dozens of 'em. Good ones, too! He thought about debating but preferred to just string people along not ever making up his mind. Then even when he decided to maybe debate he was just so darned lazy he couldn't manage to show up. He had no fire in his belly for debates. Later it was revealed that he has an incurable disease and everywhere he went he sweated profusely and looked terrible, even when he was riding in a golf cart instead of walking like everybody else. Fred has already died of this disease and further he has only two weeks to live. So given that he is making far fewer appearances each day than any other candidate (and none of these appearances are debates, mind you) Fred Thompson basically will never be seen again just like New Coke.

That's how it's done.

No, you can add Fred Barnes to the “never a conservative” list for supporting Harriet Miers and amnesty.

I’m truly beginning to wonder how many people can retain memories of only the past couple of years. There was political life before Thompson entered this race you know.

Barnes was an overbearing dismissive elitist during those fights declaring it didn’t matter what we thought, it only mattered what the politicians in the beltway thought. then he confidently predicted both last tries at amnesty would pass, and harriet would be confirmed.

If you want to pitch a tent in his camp...be my guest.

Just don’t tag dismissal of him because we’re all starry eyed over Thompson.

IMO, almost all politicians are disingenuous to some degree. Case in point? I’m not buying Thompson’s answer on Terri. He’s still the most conservative likely to get the nom, he’s making a conservative case for election, and he’s not a liberal. barring the upset by Hunter, this leads me to support him.

That is another reason I like Thompson. He is not one of those lifetime politicians who never held a private sector job in his life. Anybody who freely gives up power after enjoying it for a while, gets my respect. The LibDems give up political power kicking and screaming.
