Giuliani Seeking Support From NRA (Pigs now fly, Satan buys parka, etc.)
The Washington Post ^ | September 20, 2007 | Michael D. Shear and Anne E. Kornblut

Rudolph W. Giuliani will go before the rank and file of the National Rifle Association on Friday, seeking support for his Republican presidential campaign from a group he once likened to "extremists" for its efforts to repeal the ban on assault weapons.

But even as the former New York mayor strives to burnish his Second Amendment credentials at the gathering in Washington, a panel of federal judges in his home town will be hearing arguments on the lawsuit that Giuliani filed seven years ago aimed at punishing the nation's gun manufacturers for violent crimes involving firearms.

Announcing the lawsuit in 2000, then-Mayor Giuliani wrote in his weekly column about issues facing the city that "this is an industry which profits from the suffering of innocent people. The lawsuit is intended to end the free pass that the gun industry has enjoyed for a very long time, which has resulted in too many avoidable deaths."

He called the lawsuit "an aggressive step towards restoring accountability to an industry that profits from the suffering of others." The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit will decide whether the lawsuit -- against Colt, Glock, Smith & Wesson and others -- can move forward despite federal legislation that attempted to grant immunity to the companies.

A spokeswoman for Giuliani's presidential campaign yesterday declined to say whether he still supports the lawsuit or the goals he laid out in 2000.

"Mayor Giuliani successfully worked to get illegal guns out of the hands of criminals in order to transform a city out of control," said spokeswoman Maria Comella. "By being tough on gun crimes and enforcing the laws on the books, New York City's murder rate was cut by 66 percent.

He will be voted out next time around....

Why voted out insted of kicked off? Jim Zumbo got his a$$ handed to him for saying something not too much worse than this. Zumbo just didn't say full auto that this guy doesn't think you should but talked about semi-auto; however, he saw the light when he felt the heat.

Oh I’m with you there, I just don’t think the rhetoric is appropriate. The fact is, I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming that he meant something other than what he actually said. Either way though, I think he should go.

Don’t read too much into it. He’s running as a Republican, barely, so they are giving him a courtesy to appear fair. After he and his entourage leaves, they'll break cigars and laugh their asses off.

Just a thought...

As long as everyone is constantly reminded about Julie Annie's love of guns (but only in the hands of the police) BTW Does anyone know who the guy behind Brady is?

Well the post-9/11 “Bush Doctrine” promised a rain of ruin for anyone who “supports terrorism”...and Bush has given a total pass to Syria and Iran. At least Giuliani is moving in the right direction. Remember they are all whores. ALL of them. No matter what they tell you, they are liars and charlatans. This is the system we’ve chosen.

Gun were made for the sole purpose of killing living things.

And blowing in doors, and making holes where there are none, but those are secondary uses.

I would hope they’d grant him an audience so that when he’s done speaking, the NRA could tell him that he’s a no-good gun-grabbing RINO that will never get support from the NRA.

The fact of the matter is, he might end up winning. And if he does, we want to be able to persuade him toward our way of thinking as much as possible. We won’t be able to do that by sitting around screaming to each other about how much of an a-hole we think he is.

Exactly. There is a lot of wisdom in the old adage: "Keep your friends close but your enemies closer."

Next thing we will see is ole Rooty walking into a store and saying “Is thisth where I can geth me a huntin’ licenth”?

Maybe he can borrow the orange jump suit that John Kerry used when he went hunting during the 2004 election.

A great cost cutting idea. We know it was only worn once for that photo op. LOL!

Giuliani, Romney Shifts Fail to Assuage Gun Owners

Giuliani, during his four years as mayor, advocated waiting periods for gun purchases, and in a 1995 interview with talk-show host Charlie Rose called the NRA ``extremists.'' In June 2000, he filed a lawsuit against two dozen major gun manufacturers and distributors, alleging they deliberately manufactured many more firearms than could be needed for hunting and law enforcement. In announcing the suit, Giuliani, 63, linked reducing gun availability to lower crime rates. ``The more guns you take out of society, the more you're going to reduce murder,'' he said.

When Romney, 60, ran against Democratic Senator Edward M. Kennedy in 1994, he supported two gun-control measures, and as governor supported Massachusetts's gun laws and increased fees for owners. He also signed a 2004 measure instituting a permanent ban on assault weapons in the state.
