FBI suppressed video of TWA explosion

Posted: August 30, 2007

Recovered debris from TWA 800

More than six years after retired United Airline captain Ray Lahr launched his Freedom of Information Act petition into the fate of TWA Flight 800, the FBI has shown him –likely by accident – one seriously smoking gun.

The Boeing 747 blew up off the coast of Long Island on July 17, 1996. One of the FBI documents received recently by Lahr and his attorney details a communication that took place six days after the crash:

"The FBI guy who looked at this must not have read it, or not have realized what it would reveal, Otherwise he would have redacted most of it as before."

John Kerry also called it an attack twice on national television inside of two weeks (9/11 on Larry King, 9/14 on Hardball).

If John Kerry told me that the sun rose in the east and set in the west I'd head for California to watch the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean.

“Adding a new level of intrigue to the investigation is the fact that the video in question appears to have been shot on July 12, 1996, five days before the crash. “

The missile hung in the air for five days? That beats the so-called “Magic Bullet” of the Conspiracy Theorists.

While I was attending my va medical retirement classes in San Diego, there was a Navy diver who stated that he was there on the recovery site and there were SEALs there & they were moving the missile parts off into deeper water so no one could ever find them.

Did he say how he was able to identify all the missile fragments from the thousands and thousands of airplane fragments?

Over 20 people reported seeing something like a surface to air missile. Remember similar incidents on the west coast. I believe an Alaskan and Hawaiian Airlines flights that went down over water in similar circumstances.

It was Alaskan Airlines, and the conditions were in no way similar. The airplane was bound from Mexico to Seattle and had declared an emergency. It was trying to make the LA Airport when it went out of control and crashed. It was determined that a failure in the horizontal stabilizer trim system caused the crash.

I read somewhere (don’t ask me where after all these years and all these threads!) that TWA 800 was actually not the target. An El-Al plane was supposed to depart at that time, but there was a delay and TWA 800 left in its place, passing along the beach at just the time the El Al plane would have done. I don’t know if that’s true, but it would certainly make sense, if the plane was shot down by jihadi nutcases (remember, the Palestinians were really attacking Israel in a big way at that time). Their failure to get that plane, plus fear of having the US cut off their funds if they were indeed Palestinian-linked, might have been one of the reasons they never went public and bragged about this.

Also, I was living in New York City and I recall a report that a couple of weeks after the attack, they found some sort of launching stand in the dunes on Long Island. Was it for a missile? Or was it just for fireworks? I don’t know, and I don’t recall what happened to that report. But I do know that there were teams searching the dunes all along that stretch of coast for evidence of some kind of launching device or some debris left by the firing of a rocket. This was reported in the newspapers at the time, indicating that their first thought was a missile attack.

That’s interesting about the Olympics, and I’m sure it factored into Clinton’s thinking.

The test was public knowledge. Check archives for tests at that time.

I don’t absolutely know if it’s true, but there were several stories back then about Chinese modifications of the shoulder held missiles of that time, which could have reached the required altitude. So I don’t think it can absolutely be said that a terrorist missile can be ruled out on that basis.

Hello? There were "stories" about Chinese modifications? Have any of these missiles been seen before of since? And even if you had a missile that might be able to hit something at 20,000 feet, why not position yourself to shoot at the plane when it is at 8000 feet?

The Navy had restricted flying near the place where TWA 800 went down. The Navy first denied they had assets in the area. Then after they did admit that there were assets in the area, they didn't answer many questions about what those assets were doing there. In fact, few such questions were asked.

Besides the Navy being in the area, doing something or other, we have a Coast Guard. Certainly a missile fired from the water close to our shore, should arouse their interest. So far as I know it did not.

Doesn't any of this bother you?

Ping.

If one considers the possibilities at the time, it sure appears terrorism or an attempt to cause an event to make it look like terrorism was the cause at the time.

Clinton’s responses, after he has been more read by the public, IMHO, reveal he strongly suspected terrorism, but was trying to manipulate events and information flow to further a political outcome.

Oh really? Could you perhaps point me to the archives so I can check it out? All I can find is speculation on conspiracy sites.

I was always under the impression that the plane was well out of range for any known MANPAD system. A small launcher would be required to fire a missile with enough engine time to get to the altitude. Has this ever been proven wrong?

Anyone who would base his plans on the belief that an airliner would pass by the same spot on the beach at the same time everyday has obviously never flown out of New York and has to qualify as one of the worlds dumbest terrorists.

587 was a vertical stab connection point failure caused by excessive rudder input control. A well know problem with Airbuses of that vintage and resulted in extensive rework and pilot training.

Sorry that one was a clean equipment failure problem.

No. The issued the NOTAM about the training area because there was a P-3C out of Brunswick doing some low-level maneuvers in the area. The P-3 was in the area because a U.S. nuclear sub was transiting the area on it's way to New London and it was common for the Brunswick crews to take advantage of these rtansits to practice tracking subs in real life. If the Navy at first denied assets in the area then it's because they don't like to announce the comings and goings of their subs. Kind of shoots the whole 'stealth' part of their activities right out of the water. So now your questions were answered.

Besides the Navy being in the area, doing something or other, we have a Coast Guard. Certainly a missile fired from the water close to our shore, should arouse their interest. So far as I know it did not.

What Coast Guard assets were in the area and why should they have been on guard for a terrorist missile launch?

I'd need a whole lot more than some paranoid ramblings before I'd go through all that time and trouble.

You know, you aren’t going to rile me up. Like I said, I know for a fact what happenned. If you don’t know, too bad for you. Not my issue.

Oh please, by all means enlighten us and explain just how you 'know' it happened. I'm up for a laugh.

There is no evidence that this happened, other than people wanting blame Clinton for something.

Actually, I believe President Reagan would have done the same thing.
