Answer one simple question for me and I will believe what you have to say.

Do you believe that the Bible is the revealed Word of God and that what is prescribed within its pages is all you need to make it to heaven, that no other book is needed or that nothing needs to be added?

"The bottom line is this: Romney’s intelligence is being challenged on the false premise that his religion is a cult. That premise is false because the evidences used to support it are simply untrue. "

With respect to that statement, I have never seen anyone on FR question his intelligence ( and I sincerely doubt anyone thinks he less than extremely intelligent), just the sincerity of his recent conversion to conservatism.

“When Republicans act like Democrats, America loses.”

The irony of Mitt Romney saying this is unbelievable.

There is no such thing as “LDS Church” there is no such thing as the “Mormon Church”!

This is Jesus Christ Church and so it called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!

To say other wise is slothful

One thing for sure is that Mitt has lived the gospel with his family and personal life more closely than some who think they are so much better!

And when Mitt had authority he choose to defend life and pro marraige plus many more things.

Myself I don’t follow the sheep, I do my own home work not listen to the emotional buzz words of others!

Seems these people have given you NO reason not to trust them and have no motivation to lie. I've noticed that many FReepers have biases which keep them from being able to recognize honest answers and accept the truth.

---->An excerpt from a letter written by Massachusett's pro-family and pro-life groups on behalf of Governor Romney:

Snip

...We are aware of the 1994 comments of Senate candidate Romney, which have been the subject of much recent discussion. While they are, taken by themselves, obviously worrisome to social conservatives including ourselves, they do not dovetail with the actions of Governor Romney from 2003 until now – and those actions have positively and demonstrably impacted the social climate of Massachusetts.

Since well before 2003, we have been laboring in the trenches of Massachusetts, fighting for the family values you and we share. It is difficult work indeed – not for the faint of heart. In this challenging environment, Governor Romney has proven that he shares our values, as well as our determination to protect them.

For four years, Governor Romney has been right there beside us, providing leadership on key issues – whether it was politically expedient to do so or not. He has stood on principle, and we have benefited greatly from having him with us. It is clear that Governor Romney has learned much since 1994 – to the benefit of our movement and our Commonwealth. In fact, the entire nation has benefited from his socially conservative, pro-family actions in office. As we explained earlier, his leadership on the marriage issue helped prevent our nation from being plunged into even worse legal turmoil following the court decision that forced “gay marriage” upon our Commonwealth.

For that our country ought to be thankful. We certainly are.

Sincerely,

Rita Covelle President, Morality in Media Massachusetts

Richard Guerriero Immediate Past State Deputy, Massachusetts State Council, Knights of Columbus

Mary Ann Glendon Learned Hand Professor of Law, Harvard Law School

Kristian Mineau President, Massachusetts Family Institute

Dr. Roberto Miranda President, COPAHNI Fellowship of Hispanic Pastors of New England

James Morgan President, Institute for Family Development

Joseph Reilly President, Massachusetts Citizens for Life

Thomas A. Shields Chairman, Coalition for Family and Marriage
Pro-Family Groups' Letter Endorsing Romney

Actions speak louder than words.

The cult currently owns large tracts of land in Utah, Hawaii and Canada, along with owning the Marriott Hotel chain, Beneficial Life Assurance Company along with many television and radio stations.

Gee, you forgot their black Angus farms in Florida.

You forgot to mention their canning factories and distribution facilities.

What do they DO with these large tracks of land?

Well, they grow and process food for the poor, both in their church across the world and, quietly, plane and truckloads for people suffering from natural disasters.

The ministry is a lay ministry. The Bishops, etc, are not salaried. They make their own living, like everyone else and freely give their time. Unlike most churches, the leaders, Bishops et al, are not the ones who stand and 'preach' in front of everyone else each Sunday. Instead, Two adults and two young people will speak - different each Sunday. No one knows or has to approve what they choose to speak on ahead of time - they choose a theme, related to the gospels and gospels precepts and share their thoughts on them.

There's no plate passed around for money - so visitors are not coerced to contribute.,,and members tithe without public scrutiny.

When members/families come on hard times, they don't have to turn to the gov't. The church will provide food, pay rent/mortgage/utilities = do everything they can to get them back on their feet. They take God's admonition to provide for the poor, hungry, fatherless, etc,. literally.

No one is forced or coerced to attend - and unlike some other churches, no one is shunned. They can get excommunicated for egregious actions that break the Commandments - no different than other churches.

The adult Sunday school studies both the Bible (SJV) and the Book of Mormon from the first to the last verses - when they get through, they start over again.

Also, they do not denigrate other religions.

Such terrible people!

You sight selectively and from hostile sources, most of it laughably wrong.

I take it you're definitely not Catholic, or just about any other church affiliation, if you're judging a Church by it's history? - and from such dubious sources.

hundreds and hundreds of ex-Mormons finally have the freedom to explain the truth

Any one is free to leave at any time and Freedom of Speech is alive and well.

Your posts, dripping with venom and ignorance, are tripe. Take a few deep breaths, take a walk, take a chill pill.

For others who might be reading these posts, with the Internet, it easy to go to the source for ourselves and use our own minds,,,

you posted to broncobilly CanaGuy provides you with a ton of evidence supporting his assertion and all you can do is call him a bigot?

it is dripping with bigotry and venom - and laughable twisted errors.

Someone with "intelligence" would research a bit for themselves, rather than swallow such tripe as whole cloth.

Anyone who'd like to judge for themselves can get a start at my post #54.

I'm confused.

In my post I named the church as: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints."

The church members refer to themselves as LDS - and the church is commonly referred to by non-members as "Mormon", even though it's not the actual name of the church.

The churches web site is listed as

LDS.org

http://lds.org/portal/site/LDSOrg

Are they in error or just 'slothful'???

Calling the Church, LDS or Mormon Church would show irreverence towards the Lord.

One is counsel to either say the whole name, or the Church.

Member describing themselves as LDS non members some will use Mormons.

"Living the gospel" is living a transformed life of newness, forgiveness, grace and mercy. It's not saying to God, "Hey, move over on the thrown. There's a new god in town," which is what the Mormon "gospel" is all about.
