Fred Thompson isn’t all bad, but neither is he all good.

The Clinton machine will eat him up for being a Washington lobbyist for 18 years.

The public is looking for an outside the beltway candidate and Hillary is weak on that point, too.

That’s what makes the outsiders as in non-Washington (Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee) guys look good by comparison.

And I’m not worshipping at any of their feet right now. Wow those three have a liberal streak in them, too.

I’ve never watched “Law and Order” regularly like my wife does. I’ve seen some PC monologues from Mariska Hartigay and such. I get the impression the show has a female-type audience so that’s good for Fred.

Whichever candidate we get will have to have an appeal to the female audience out there and Fred along with the three outside Washington guys seem to have credentials in that area.

The Walk on Water Conservatives are going to have to understand there is and never will be a Perfect Candidate. There are parts of Ann’s life that are not Conservative and certainly not Newts. So what, we have some excellent candidates.

Believes in family values?

Fred Dalton Thompson (Check out his wife and kids that he adores).

You had me until that one. What about his first family??? Where are his children from the first marriage that ended??? He never speaks of them. Why not? The new family is better????

My point is by Dobsons beliefs that wouldnt be having family values. Being divorced and re-marrying. Like I said, you cant have it all. Referring to what Coulter and Dobson believe.

When I was watching the debate the other night, I was thinking of which one of these guys could stand on the stage with Hillary and hold their own. Unfortunate as it may be, that is what will determine who many Americans vote for. The “average Joe” isn’t watching now, but in the end, they’ll be watching the debates between Hillary and whomever the GOP candidate is, and that will be the “most informed” that the majority of voters get. If a candidate isn’t a good debater, despite what his credentials or beliefs are, I don’t think he has a chance of election in the general election (this of course is not to say that Hillary is a “good debater”...but she’s pushy and someone will have to be able to push back.)

You just described Duncan Hunter.

I wasnt trying to describe anyone. The point I was trying to make is that Coulter and Dobson cant create a canidate in the image or belief. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. I for one have no respect for Rudy for the way he handled his divorce. But I would vote for him over Hillary who stayed with Bubba only because she needs him for the big prize.

“But thompson did vote to oust Clinton on obstruction of justice....Coulter got it wrong and apparently the writer of this article got snowed by her smear hit piece against Fred.”

He voted guilty on obstruction of justice and not guilty on perjury.

The MSM wants a meaningless vote.

They want it so whether NYC Rhodham Clinton or NYC Rhodham Guiliani wins the result will be the same.

The same views, THE SAME STAFFERS, THE SAME NOMINEES FOR JUDGE.

As a conservative with a voting record, I am not going to pretentiously posture. How conservative is Fred Thompson? I voted for guys names George Bush six times, four times for President. Fred is more conservative than they.

I liked when she said Guilini is so far left, hillary looks conservative...

**************

Even Giuliani can't make Hillary look conservative.

You just described Duncan Hunter.

If Hunter was polling higher I'd say go with him; if he does not get the nomination I'd love to see him in the VP slot for later. But he seems to lack name recognition.

But then, looking to years long past, I recall pre-election comments of "who the hell is John F. Kennedy?...who the hell is Jimmy Carter/...who the hell is Bill Clinton?...

Few of us warned our fellow freepers about Anne Coulter and that she is just an "attention *****" more than anything else. She goes over the top on many issues even when she attacks liberals. She does not attacks them in a smart and destructive way unlike Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and many other conservative media personalities who destroy liberals in smart and intelligent ways. I am sorry to say it but that is the truth. And now she is going against Thompson who is a great conservative and someone who can destroy Hillary Clinton in the general elections, I mean an absolute destruction.

Who is she rooting for by the way? who is her candidate? Is she picking someone who has zero chance of winning a single primary let alone the general elections?

Perhaps you are correct. But what seems clear is that Americans do not want another candidate like Bush.

Certainly no one can claim that either Her Majesty nor Guiliani are quite like Bush.

If you look at the statistics about issues, it would seem that Guiliani is fairly close to most American attitudes with a fairly liberal social agenda and (relatively) conservative fiscal orientation - or at least rhetoric. It may not be the opinions of people at FR, nor even the people in your neighborhood, but it does seem to reflect aggregate opinion. This is why he does pretty well in the national polls.

Given the amount of rhetoric that especially right-wing talk radio has given to supporting the current administration in the last 7 years, and the relative dissatisfaction there has been with the leadership, it will be tough to get most Americans to vote for someone even closely related with Bush policies, even if the majority of them were not all that bad. Naturally the Democrats will do their best to make any Republican candidate into a Bush clone. The further away that candidate is from the Texan draw and swagger, the less effective that strategy will be.

Running against the establishment is always popular. Running against a party whose President has Nixonian poll numbers is a must.

Americans will revive Constitutional government only AFTER they abandon faith in any party or politician’s ability and will to do so.

When folks wake up to the fact that their government is killing them slowly, perhaps then they will act, or perhaps not.None of the current contenders for the pubby nomination is a Churchill or Reagan - the People are going to have to do the heavy lifting themselves.

Thompsons views on federalism when it comes to the Federal Marriage Amendment are laughable at best. It would flunk a first year constitutional law student out of law school.

(picture the proffessor offering the student a dime to call home because he has no future in law)

Guiliani is totally unacceptable. He is just plain hillary in a dress.

Fortunatly we have a primary. The MSM is trying to shove a NYC liberal Guiliani down our throats the way they pushed AMNESTY.

When the primary is over then we will decide. For now, NOBODY gets my money or my time OR my enthusiasm. They WILL get complete scrutiny and exposure of idiotic positions.

Fred is a nice guy, but he looks constipated and arthritic. His smile is not captivating. Sorry, but this is modern politics and it’s not how you feel or what you have to say, it’s how you look, and Fred doesn’t look marvelous Darling...

I'll give you that Fred ain't as "pretty" a man as RINO-Romney, but he's a damn sight more handsome, and manly, than the puny little "Himmleresque" man with the nervous tic (the bizarre EYES widening as he speaks) and the speech impediment - RINO-rudy.

Of course, I don't want the slickest, "prettiest" man in the crowd.

I want the most Conservative guy that has a chance in hell of beating the snot out of the demonRAT, be it hillary, or someone else.

I also want someone who will say what he means & mean what he says, will FORGET about this "compassionate", "reach across the aisle" crap, and be imposing and intimidating - especially to our enemies (terrorists, democrats, RINOS, etc.).

Get in your election "groove" Fred. Go out and kick some dem and RINO ass, and WIN this thing (if not you, then one of the other Conservatives).
