He still speaks with his first wife, she even campaigned for him during one of his Senate races. One of his older daughters died tragically in 2002 and as far as I know he does NOT speak about her death.

"My answer is Hillary. I will vote for whichever Republican wins the nomination. I am not about to cut off my nose to spite my face!"

Applying that rationale in the 2004 election has left me feeling that my nose was cut off anyway. I voted for GWB and ended up getting screwed*. I'm done with "Republicans at all costs".

*while disappointing, it was not entirely unexpected

I can see NO REASON for everyone to be getting SO UGLY about this entire thing!!

Some must resort to simple name calling because they can’t think of anything intelligent to say.

If you don’t like Fred, fine. Don’t vote for him.

But don’t get so pissy because your candidate isn’t doing as well as you like.

And go ahead... flame away.

I don’t care. I’m sick of the childish behavior.

Should we call him "Roadhouse?"

Do you believe what a candidate trying to appeal to the Republican base during a primary campaign SAYS he would do or what the totality of his behavior while in office makes clear he would really do? Remember that Bush said he was against amnesty for illegals while he was campaigning. Rudy’s a politician, it’s campaign season and his lips are moving. Look at what he’s DONE as an indicator of what he will do, not what he SAYS. And the totality of Rudy’s life in office, in fact the totality of his life, period, screams “liberal.”

The Republican Pary is committing suicide if it nominates Rudy, pure and simple. The inside the Beltway types like Ann Coulter will never get that. She’s a great bomb-thrower and says the things out loud that most people won’t, but she’s never impressed me as a political analyst. The inside the Beltway types assume Republicans have nowhere else to go and will hold their nose and vote for Rudy just to keep the Anti-Christette out of the Oval Office. Plenty will, but too many will not. I know several of them. If Rudy gets the nod, Hillary is our next President, and the Republican establishment that’s trying to shove him down our throats will be to blame.

Good thing the Founding Fathers didn't establish our contry based on "aggregate opinion".

And to relegate life and death issues such as abortion and our 2nd Amendment RIGHTS (a CONSTITUTIONAL right, no less) to the term, "social" issues, is plain wrong, and against what should be, and still is (last time I checked), part of our CORE values, principles, and platform.

Except for the border/illegal issues, lack of using the line item veto more to control spending, reaching out "across the aisle" to our domestic enemies (the liberal dems), Bush has done a decent, fairly Conservative job in office.

His Supreme Court appointees, while not as rabidly Conservative as I'd like them, were pretty good (especially in comparison to some previous appointees by Republican presidents), and his (no matter what he SAID while running for office) outward support for the 2nd Amendment (particulalry when Ashcroft was AG, and Bolton was at the UN) was great.

So to say that we'd be better getting as far away from a Bush clone is an ASSININE, demonRAT-like thing to say on a CONSERVATIVE forum like FR.

If anything, we need to find someone with the GOOD points of President Bush, AND a MORE Conservative, hard-nosed view on the items he has been dem/RINO-like on.

Picking an arrogant (yes, that's the opposite of Bush), elitist (again, the opposite of Bush), northeastern-corridor (O.K., so he was born in enemy territory, at least his formative years were in "God's Country"), LIBERAL (Bush has a few liberal tendencies, while RINO-rudy is 99.9% liberal) like judy ruliani (infamous cross-dresser rudy is DEFINITELY the opposite of Bush on this one too) would be just "great" for our country and our party.

Go knock yourself out supporting and voting for this LIBERAL RINO POS.

No one is saying Fred is perfect, but Ann (and some of you) have to face the fact that Rudy is simply not electable. He is pro-abortion and pro-gun-control.

Hillary will destroy him because...

1) Left-wingers will vote for Hillary.
2) Middle America will split about 50-50 between the two.
3) Right wingers will either vote for a 3rd party candidate or will fail to show up in numbers sufficient to defeat Hillary.

IMO, hard-core conservatives will simply refuse en mass to vote for liberal Rudy.

Fred, on the other hand has a fighting chance without regard to a stupid vote or two he may have made.

The MSM wants a meaningless vote.

They want it so whether NYC Rhodham Clinton or NYC Rhodham Guiliani wins the result will be the same.

The same views, THE SAME STAFFERS, THE SAME NOMINEES FOR JUDGE.

EXACTLY.

Needs to be repeated over, and over again.

Is there someone out there that is against abortion? Pro guns, pro military? Will fight the War on Terror with everything we got? Believes the Constitution is not living and breathing? Will uphold everything the Constitution stands for. Believes in Liberty? Believes in family values? Believes that the Government works for us and not the other way around? No,

Actually, you just described Fred.

You are wrong. Rudy is electable. His pro-abortion, pro-gun stance will not hurt him as much as you think. Now, I know he is poison to most on Free Republic. If he comes out of primaries as the nominee... he could very well be president. I like Rudy... might not agree with him, but I like him. I would vote for him.

Well, I’m no Coulter fan, but she has the right to her opinion. If she doesn’t like Thompson, so what.

She's entitled to her own opinions, but not her own facts. Her initial article had the facts wrong, and even when the basic facts were corrected, she used them misleadingly.

If Rudy gets the nomination, it means more Republicans voted for him during the primary than the other candidates. So of course he’s electable.

Like I said to others that had your same response, my point is that Coulter and Dobson can hope all they want to find a candidate that has ALL of the same beliefs as the two of them, but it is not going to happen. You have to take the good with the bad in politics. This is one reason I didnt start voting until I was 35. I believed that when you vote you are voting for the lesser of two evils and I wasnt going to vote for an evil.

He has no ‘pro-gun’ stance. He has a pro-gun-control stance. A few conservatives will vote for him because of who he will be running against, but not enough to beat her.

I’ve been reading Ann’s articles faithfully for years and this is only the second time I’ve disagreed with her (the first was when she made a comment that was not quite tough enough on abortion, IMO). I’m as conservative as as I can be but if this election turns out to be Rudy vs. Hillary, I’d sooner vote for Hillary (if I have no third party to vote for). Either is going to be awful for our country, but I suppose I’d rather have a crappy Dem get the blame than a crappy Repub.

Rudy vs. Hillary = NYC vs. NY State. Don’t you think people are more than a little tired of people from that one area? America is a big country, and both of these candidates only seem to be interested in espousing ideas from that one state. A picayune point, but one that really bothers me.

Also, I love the fact that not only does Hillary have to climb over her mountain of lies and misdeeds, she’s got to explain away Bubba’s too!

Except for the fact that in the primary, *only* registered republicans have the chance to vote for or against him. In the general election, he also has to contend with Dems (which will obviously vote for Hillary) and middle-of-the-roaders (which will break about 50-50). The Republican base will not support him in adequate numbers, because he just doesn’t represent them or their values.
