Ann Coulter misses the mark RE: Fred Thompson
Leaning Straight Up ^ | October 11th, 2007 | Karl

Posted on 10/11/2007 4:32:09 AM PDT by Josh Painter

Those who read here often know I like Ann Coulter. She is frank and harsh but more often then not, right on the mark when she goes after the liberals in America.

But not infallible, as this piece shows. In this article she attacks people who dislike the front runners (Guliani and Romney) for not being conservative enough and are gravitating to Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson.

I admit that neither of these two are flashy and they are certainly not neo cons, but they are often solid and sensible, and do reflect conservative values. I think that she is missing that in her desire to promote a hardline conservative candidate.

And in Thompson's case, her dislike of him is centrally based on his vote in the Clinton impeachment, and in my opinion, she is cutting off her nose to spite her face...

And had they ALL voted for removal, it would have NOT made a difference, as they were no where close to reaching a 67 vote majority required.

I won't defend his vote, he made the choice as he saw fit. Let him answer to it or not.

But all this deep seated bitterness on her part is useless. So he cast his essentially wasted vote in line with his principles, not her principles. So what? The point had been made about Clinton and all they were going to get had been done. At best they would have failed with 55 votes which is still a failure...

She is playing the same game that Dobson is. If the candidate is not perfect, then run away. In this case Thompson is a viable candidate, and she is so enraged at his not voting to support what she considers the paramount legal issue of the century that she will villify him out of hand.

My exit question to her and Dobson is this: Who would you like LEAST in the Whitehouse? Hillary or Fred?

Fred has taught me a lesson. About what soft-touches we can be. I thinks of dear FRed as the Wizard of Oz -- a good man, but oversold and even unexceptional.

I do want a good, proven, exceptional man.

Today the MSM is cramming Guiliani, the Documentary channel has everything about NYC this morning.

How does a candidate compete against NYC and NYC-phile reporters who want an all NYC left wing race.

Fred is a nice guy, but he looks constipated and arthritic. His smile is not captivating. Sorry, but this is modern politics and it’s not how you feel or what you have to say, it’s how you look, and Fred doesn’t look marvelous Darling...

He can help by rallying the troops and in the end getting them to support someone who will beat Hillary. My only concern is that Dr. Dobson, whom I have always admired, will resurrect a third party anti abortion candidate. That will all but assure Hillary’s election. And then this nation is screwed....

Well, I’m no Coulter fan, but she has the right to her opinion. If she doesn’t like Thompson, so what. Everyone has to make up their own mind about what candidate they’ll be voting for. Listening to so called “experts” is not the way to decide, whether those “experts” be Coulter, Dobson, Rush, or any other conservative pundit.

Ann also criticized Thompson for voting against tort reform (trial lawyers’ voraciou$$ne$$) but I know why he did: He’s against Big Government sticking its Big Nose into local affairs.

Its been quite some time since someone from the Northeast has been in the White House. Maybe it is just time.

But thompson did vote to oust Clinton on obstruction of justice....Coulter got it wrong and apparently the writer of this article got snowed by her smear hit piece against Fred.

I don’t mind Ann not liking Fred because of his Clinton impeachment vote, I do mind her misrepresenting and downright lying about the facts in order to smear him. That article Ann wrote is so lame and so freaking unfair it is on the same level as the media smear against Rush.

I have always liked Ann and just love it when she smashes liberals.....but that is based on the assumption she is doing the bashing based on the truth. Now, with this blatant smear against Fred for all to see, I now have doubts about Ann being truthful in other articles. She does herself no favors with this crap, she certainly does conservatism no favors with this crap, she doesn’t help Duncan Hunter at all with this crap....its just CRAP and very sad to see.

Are we going to find a die hard Conservative? I think not. Is there someone out there that is against abortion? Pro guns, pro military? Will fight the War on Terror with everything we got? Believes the Constitution is not living and breathing? Will uphold everything the Constitution stands for. Believes in Liberty? Believes in family values? Believes that the Government works for us and not the other way around? No, we will never find someone who wraps all of that around themselves. But to listen to Coulter of Dobson would be asinine. If Dobson thinks religion and religious values are under attack now, just wait until Hillary gets control. I would take someone like Rudy, who I disagree with everything he stands for socially over any Democrat out there right now.

The MSM and the punditocracy want the perfect candidate, their image of one. They want the flash, the "fire in the belly", the quick-wit quips, the good looks, the inside-the-beltway mentality, and so on. From what we've seen from Hewitt, Will, all of the talking heads on CBS/NBC/ABC/CNN/FOX, and now Coulter, they mostly don't like Thompson because he's too much like a normal American..........and that is why his numbers keep rising: he's like one of us and he speaks plain and simple. if he doesn't know the answer, he doesn't snow you with a load of bullShiite, he says he doesn't know. His answers are for the most part simple and understandable. He speaks from the heart.

And the pundits and media elite can't stand that.

My answer is Hillary. I will vote for whichever Republican wins the nomination. I am not about to cut off my nose to spite my face!

I don’t like that analogy at all. So another words if someone votes for abortion rights because they know it won’t pass that is ok? Voting for Gay marriage is ok as long as the votes are not there??? Bad example. Fred voted and now has to live with it. We will see how the outcome is. As far as me voting for a candidate??? Well since Pennsylania votes in April 2008....guess what? The primaries will be over by then. If I had the chance to vote it would most certainly be Duncan Hunter, but I know I won’t get that chance unfortunately.

I agree with what you say. Rudy has made it doubly clear what he would do regarding the appointments of
SC justices. They would be like Thomas, Scalia etc.

Well, that question would be, "Who do you like LESS," but I quibble.

I agree with you but wonder which of the two front runners Ann is trying to help. I have not picked a candidate for 2008 yet except to say that I am not interested in having to vote for either Mitt or Rudy. But the issues she brought up regarding Fred and Mike were smaller than the issues I had with our current President, and I voted for him twice.

If that's the most she has against those two then I'll take a closer look at them.

Shalom

P.S. None of this to say that I would not ask her to autograph my copy of Godless if I ever had the chance.

“That will all but assure Hillary’s election. And then this nation is screwed....”

We’re pretty screwed right now. The Congress is doing little or nothing. The RNC has all but left us in the dust. Dims control?? both houses and our *compassionate* President sides with the majority all too often.

If?? Hillery is elected POTUS which, I still have my doubts about, America will see the Dims for what they are.......worthless.

... it’s how you look

Then how in the world is Hillary winning in the Dem race?!

But I know what you're saying. The important things, like what the candidate thinks about stuff, don't matter anymore, it's all how you look. That might explain some of our recent elections...

I am not saying this is there reasoning, but it does make you wonder that Dobson and Coulter will thrive in a world of Hillary as President....makes you go hum doesn’t it????? Can you say “kaching”? Conservatives will run to them during a democratic president because they will be able to complain all day long about liberals!!! Still does not make Fred the best candidate out there though...
