Ruger P345: reviews & Recommendations
10/13/2007

Posted on 10/13/2007 6:27:32 PM PDT by MichaelP

I'm considering buying a Ruger P345 for CC. The written reviews I've read are excellent. However, it has to pass the Freeper peer review board before I buy it. So what do you think?

Mike

Glock is a good gun, I just prefer my 1911 This is what I carry for CCW; 3" Taurus .44 Special.

Nice... But the 30 is too small for my hands.

I agree with you as stock.

There is a butt plug that make it feel much more comfortable

Make sure you hit your first shot. Otherwise, you’ll have to switch to the other hand for the second and hand the gin too someone else for the third. You can reload and take the fourth when you get out of traction.

And what say you about your namesake? Is a Sig P226 passe now? I’ve always been mightily impressed by that model.

Now that is beautiful... I must admit that I’ve never fired a Taurus, but if it shoots as nice as it looks, you’re a lucky guy.

Actually, I’m not one of those Glock or Die people... I just personally haven’t fired anything sweeter then my G19.

CZ's are basically modified Browning Hi-Powers aren't they?

Yep! And I like them!

I will also admit that if I were ever called upon to go into combat again I would want nothing less than a good old 1911 to go with me as my side arm.

Ditto that ..... I carry a 1911A1 BBQ gun most of the time but for serious day to day carry where such is beat up scratched and abused with acidic sweat and other things one encounters day to day the tenifer finish on a glock can’t be beat.

Combat Tupperware is good stuff....proven, tested passed.

I carry a G30 or a G21, chamber empty , dry fired cavalry style in my waistband. Can’t recommend enough a basic simple no bells or buttons and levers etc handgun than a Glock. I don;t like the mini versions but the 19, 23 or 30 etc are good choices for CCW/CHL utility abuse and wear and tear !

Holster w/ a thumbreak if ya carry it with a round down the tube is my suggestion.

Aside from the Mk I or II series of .22 autos I do not like or own a ruger automatic. But Blackhawks, Bisley, Redhawks, Vaqueros etc and a few No 1’s and a mini 14.

On record as do like like or recommend a ruger P series at all. personal preference and experience with em when they came out. Friends that owned em and brought em too the range had nothing but trouble. A CHL/CCW rig has to be 100% reliable and the person carrying it has to have confidence in it.....

The ruger P series doesn’t instill that in me with regards to my use of em in training environments etc ......

Glock, SIG’s Browning High Powers, 1911A1’s are favorites but a SW or Ruger Auto are not on a list I’d suggest to a new shooter or person asking for a recomendation.

just my opinions of course......:o)

I manage with a XD-45 compact most of the time.

Have you been happy with it? I've seen nothing but good reviews, and that's probably my next weapon, but I'm leaning toward the 4" or even 5". The other one that tempts me is the CZ, because you can swap it back and forth between .45 and .22, but the conversion kit is awfully pricey.

I haven't fired an XD yet, but I've held one, and it's remarkably compact for 13+1 rounds of .45 ACP. I have pretty small hands, and a 1911 always felt a bit clunky in my hands, but I'm comfortable with the grip on the XD.

Why holster with a thumbbreak?

I carry a G30 or a G21, chamber empty , dry fired

Since I teach Personal Protection classes,
I also recommend a glock de-cocked and magazine loaded.

Just a personal preference.....rigid kydex would negate such a need but leather IWB w/o a thumbreak have produced some exciting results for office weenies and drivers who wear such sitting in seats w/ arms on em or high center consoles has produced some unintended noise. 3 incident in my old department convinced me to not use a leather rig w/o a retaining thumbreak or jordan style security etc ......

In belt carry I prefer a Bianchi black widow with thumb break for my Glocks.

Here in Texas we have a few places that are no CHL allowed like hospitals etc and for that reason I choose no holster and empty chamber (w/ a full mag ;o).

Bianchi makes great product. The few Bianchi’s I own are for my revolvers. Galco’s FLETCH is a favorite for my SIG 220.

I think the Ruger P series of pistols are decent guns but I never could warm up to them. When I first tried a P-89 it jsut felt awkward in my hand. Strange as nearly every auto pistol feels just fine but not the Rugers. My trigger finger just doesn't feel like it is in the proper place for leverage. I can't shift my grip and make it fell right either.

I really wish they did fit as I would like an inexpensive durable pistol. The Browning Hi-Power and all the CZ and CZ clones are just about a perfect fit for me and from what others say, just about anyone. Even the M1911 feels good in my hand tho it doesn't look like it should.

Have a couple of P90s. Wouldn’t carry anything less.
Always liked the “flying brick” 45s. If one shot don’t killem right off they’ll need lots of rehab. No shootin through like a 9.
