Marine Corps Runs Chicago High School

The United States Marine Corps this week opened a public high school in Chicago as part of a new 19 school expansion. This is the first such military-operated high school in the nation. If it is successful Chicago is expected to ask other branches of the military to do the same. The Chicago Public Schools commissioned on Monday the nation's first public high school run by the U.S. Marine Corps.

This is seen as a setback to activists who are trying to bar military recruitment from public schools. A recent servey showed 78% of those responding support the idea of the military operating some public schools in the community.

Chicago school authorities announced plans several days ago to open an Air Force academy high school in 2009. If that happens, Chicago will become the only public school district in the nation to have academies dedicated to the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.

While many high school across the nation have Juniior ROTC programs this is the first time a school has been totally operated by a military service.

Take that, San Fransissyco!

And Chicago parents will learn what Catholic schools & the U.S.M.C realized years ago; Discipline & Uniforms Work!

Right you are, Kelly! A little USMC goes a long way in helping young people attain a real neat and squared away life.

God bless the Marine Corps.

Looks like the author should go back to school.

I just better not see any of them wearing the blood stripe. We had to pay for ours in two ways. The easiest is when Uncle Sam thanked us twice month. :)

If this doesn’t give libs the vapors, nothing will. There’s probably been a run on smelling salts in the Chicago area.

What a great idea. Set schools like these up in “problem” neighborhoods and give the students there access to real discipline, real learning, and potentially a career after graduation.

I’m guessing that there won’t be discipline problems. Even a gang-banger wannabe can recognize a teacher who can flip him like an omlette.
