Brownback to pitch proposal apologizing for slavery
The Boston Globe ^ | October 16, 2007 | Jenn Abelson

Senator Sam Brownback, a Republican trying to inject new life into his beleaguered presidential campaign, plans to offer a resolution this week for Congress to apologize for slavery and segregation.

Brownback, of Kansas, told The Boston Globe's editorial board yesterday he will join an unnamed Democrat in sponsoring the proposal. He said he expects a tough fight on the resolution, even though it will not include any call for reparations.

"They were federal policies," he said. "They were wrong. The only way for us to move forward . . . is at the end of day acknowledging those, taking ownership for it, and asking for forgiveness."

He also praises Teddy Kennedy for his leadership on immigration reform. What is it with this guy?

Well - that's certainly the way to re-energize his campaign in a Republican primary...

Why did Brownback owns slaves to begin with? He should apologize. I, on the other hand never owned a slave (couldn't afford the upkeep) and have nothing to apologize for.

Jerk!

D.O.A.

Is it just me, or does Brownback sound like AlGore's brother the way he speaks?

I remember when he was elected and how conservatives had such hopes he would be an improvement over that “old compromiser” R.J. Dole. Not the case at all: Bring Bob Back!!! (Never mind at 84, he is too busy earning money)

>. He said he expects a tough fight on the resolution, even though it will not include any call for reparations.

As if that would not be the next endless call.

And why not an apology to the mexicans? Huh?
What is he a racist?
What about those Indians?

WTH has happened to the GOP mentality that they believe that a race to the bottom with the dems is the only way forward??

Were I a dem I would be as happy as a clam, for I would sense a possible end forever to the GOP as a major political force.

I would suspect Brownback is looking for a way to make his Presidential campaign relevant. Somehow, I don’t think going liberal is going to help.

You read my mind, bigtime.

Down through the annals of human history there's been plenty of slavery to go around for everybody, no matter the ethnic background. It's tiresome that there's a select group of some characters constantly marching around as if they're the only ones ever to experience slavery.
