Campaign call reveals Clinton debate concern
The Hill ^ | November 01, 2007 | Sam Youngman

Posted on 11/01/2007 4:44:23 AM PDT by vietvet67

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s (D-N.Y.) top advisers, doing damage control after the candidate’s debate performance Tuesday, told supporters on a conference call Wednesday that the campaign needed more money to fight back.

Mark Penn, Clinton’s senior strategist and pollster, and Jonathan Mantz, the campaign’s finance director, told the supporters on the call, which The Hill listened to in its entirety, that they expect attacks from Clinton’s rivals to continue, and she will need the financial resources to deflect their attacks.

Clinton came under withering assault in the Philadelphia debate, and some supporters on the call agreed with analysts that she stumbled.

“I wouldn’t say she lost her cool,” one caller said. “But I would say she lost her footing.”

The caller addded that Clinton’s response to questions about records from her time in the White House that have been sealed by the National Archives “made me roll my eyes.”

The criticisms followed Penn’s assertion that Clinton was “unflappable.” He also said criticisms from Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) would backfire and that he was already “detecting some backlash,” particularly among female voters.

Those female voters are saying, “Sen. Clinton needs our support now more than ever if we’re going to see this six-on-one to try to bring her down,” Penn told those on the campaign call.

He, Mantz and several supporters hinted repeatedly on the call that Clinton was unfairly targeted by Tim Russert, debate moderator and host of NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“Russert made it appear that President Clinton had done something new or unusual,” Penn said, before adding that it “is, in fact, an extremely confusing situation … I think there will be further clarification.”

You have to admit that you could substitute “Government” for “Hillary!” in all those statements, though.

If she gets elected, are we all suppose to come running to her aid anytime a foreign country criticizes her? BS! I for one will not let my son join the (national) armed forces if she is elected. This America will no longer be my America.

I expect that a lot of her needed campaign contributions will be provided by long-dead Chicagoans who continue to vote as Demotcrats

I don’t know if this has been brought up yet, but here is a possible reason for Spitzer’s rush for illegal driver licenses in NY: voter fraud.

Spitzer is enabling Clinton to win NY by aiding and abetting illegals voting, especially if (and it’s a big if) Guiliani wins the GOP nomination. If Guiliani wins the GOP nomination, New York will be a critical state.

Maybe they should suggest that her rival candidates dress as women for the next debate!

I meant ignorance. She is not able to function ad lib.

She is a lawyer who must have notes on a legal pad or memorized from the pad. When she doesn’t know the answer and has no staff developed script she founders.

There is a large portion of arrogance too. She is arrogant enough to think the blather will have enough big words her target audience won’t know what she said but will be impressed by the polysyllabic words.

moderating was “an abdication of journalistic responsibility.”

Even the MSM can't protect hitlery from herself when she's out there unprotected from her handlers...

Hopefully, the sheeple will finally get a clue as they see the real hitlery. She can't stay under wraps and in her protection bubble throughout the campaign - I can't wait for a one on one with Fred Thompson - at 6'4", he would not only tower over her physically, but I have an idea he could trigger the "real" hitlery, alternately screaming and cackling, while he remains the unflappable, affable Fred...

It is a sight I long to see - I'll have the popcorn ready

As a female voter, I find that very insulting.

As a female, I've always found the faux-feminists like Hillary very insulting. She and her ilk have taken what was once a worthwhile goal ("Equal work, equal pay") and turned it into a sniveling bleat ("Gimme That! I'm a WOMAN!").

She makes me ill.

It was brought up before on other threads, by me, yesterday:

As to Spitzer, the reason Hillary hedged and tried to defend Spitzer on the Dem debate last nite was because she is behind what he is doing. They are in cahoots. It’s all about getting the illegals vote. Especially if Rudy Guiliani is the candidate, and NY would be up for grabs. Having the illegal aliens voting will help make sure Hillary wins. Spitzer will throw himself on his sword to try to get this vote fraud licensing fiasco thru for Hitlery. She’s probably promised him some position or payoff if she wins the Presidency. To me this is so obvious.

The same attempt will be made here in Illinois where I live. Rod Blagojevich, our Dem Governor is also trying to get licenses for illegals through our State legislature. For the same reason, illegal votes for the Dems, and in particular Hillary. And Blago will then benefit from whatever the payoff is.

Judicial Watch just filed suit against Spitzer over this licensing voter fraud attempt today. Dobbs will keep this on the front burner, and so should every Pub who can walk and talk at the same time (I know, that leaves some out, like our President and Jerk, oops, I mean Chertoff, who is Elliott Spitzer’s good friend, I might mention).

I predict Hillary will pick up 8-15% of the votes of "registered Republican" women.

Those women have never voted for a Republican in any election. They're registered Republican because their daddies and hubbies fill out their voter registration cards for them. They toddle down to the polls, pull the curtain, and push the buttons for the democrats to show their "independence."

We never had their vote to begin with, so nothing is lost there.

It is clear that Hillary is a “glass” candidate, she shatters at any insightful questions being posed to her and her positions.

And my goodness, the Clinton War Room in action, “ganged up on her” and “pummeled her” “woman show backlash”.

Yep, we need spin detectors on “Full” after 7 years of no spin by GWB’s spokesmen, we may be getting a bit soft at sniffing this stuff out.

Next up will be an attack on a top tier Republican to divert attention from “Glass’s” flip flop

Repost, but my goodness, the spin is getting really terrible, that is one of the problems with having no clear cut front runner ourselves, someone needs to counter the spin and template drawing Clinton Machine is engaged in.

The Pretty in Pink routine has been done to death. What if anybody asked her about Hsu, talk about softballs??

Wait, now she is "too glamorous"...from today's Post:

On Drudge today:

THE "BRAINS" surrounding Hillary Clinton didn't make any friends last Friday at Condé Nast when they balked on a firm, long-standing commitment to let the candidate pose for Vogue, while the astute Julia Reed hung ten waiting to write about her and the giant fotog Annie Leibovitz had her cameras at the ready for nothing.

A source inside Hillary's camp supposedly informed the Vogue contingent they'd decided some time ago not to honor the commitment, but Vogue wasn't told until the last minute.

Handlers for the senator decided Vogue would be "too elitist" and Hillary might come off as "too glamorous." Hmmm, after those hideous Al Gore-type pantsuits, like the one she wore at her 60th-birthday fund-raiser, I think Mrs. Clinton could use a touch of glamour.

Elitists vote too, ya' know.

Well, alrighty then.

I’m glad others realize what’s happening, lol.

Seriously, to me, it’s rather incredible that Clinton, Spitzer and the Dems are so brazen in their mob-like mentality and criminality. This crap has got to stop.
