"“Which Mitt are you referencing? The one that ran to the left of Ted Kennedy?” That’s a creature as mythical as a unicorn. The real Mitt Romney is the Mitt Romney who keeps get attacked by Mitt-bashers based on phony and false charges. Your claims have been debunked again and again and again. “I’m so confused!” Yes, people who deal with non-factual viewpoints can get that way."

>>>> it tells me that Fred is losing his support to Huckabee and Mitt.

And he will regain that support and the rest of their votes when they are forced to face reality and drop out. There are a lot of anti-Rudy votes spread over the other 6 candidates, and IMO Fred will start picking them up as they fall off.

In other words this poll is representative of the 603 sample participants only and isn't guaranteed with any MOE to indicative of the public at large.

So it's meaningless, right?

ROMNEY'S RECORD ON IMMIGRATION
Mitt Romney was FOR illegal immigration...
before he was against it!

In 2005, Romney said he would be "delighted" to provide support to illegal immigrants who wish to seek permanent legal status in the U.S.

YouTube

In 2005, Romney called the McCain-Kennedy-Bush comprehensive immigration reform bill "reasonable" and defended the Senate bill. "I think that an amnesty program is one which all of the illegal immigrants who are here are now citizens and walk in and get your citizenship. What the President has proposed and what Senator McCain and Cornyn have proposed are quite different from that...those are the things that are being considered, and I think that those are reasonable proposals." (Mitt Romney Interview, The Boston Globe, 11/30/05)

In 2006, Romney vocally criticized fellow Republicans who stood up against the McCain-Kennedy-Bush amnesty bill and said they made "a big mistake." "...one of McCain's potential rivals for the GOP nomination, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, has made it known that he supports the President's immigration position, saying that Republicans who have broken rank with Bush 'made a big mistake.'" (Liz Sidoti, "McCain May Alienate Some Conservatives," The Associated Press, 9/20/06)

In 2006, Romney said that some illegal immigrants in the U.S. "should begin a process towards application for citizenship." "Gov. Mitt Romney expressed support...for an immigration program that places large numbers of illegal residents on the path toward citizenship...Romney said illegal immigrants should have a chance to obtain citizenship. '...those that are here paying taxes and not taking government benefits should begin a process towards application for citizenship, as they would from their home country.'" (Evan Lehman, "Romney Supports Immigration Program, But Not Granting 'Amnesty,'" The Lowell Sun, 3/30/06)

As Governor, Romney allowed three sanctuary cities to operate in Massachusetts: Cambridge, Orleans, and Brewster. (Yvonne Abraham, "City's Sanctuary Status Mocked," Boston Globe, 7/5/06; Lisa M. Seghetti et.al., "Enforcing Immigration Law: The Role of State and Local Law Enforcement," Congressional Research Service, RL32270, 11/14/06; Town Resolution , accessed 10/1/07

MITT ROMNEY'S RECORD ON TAXES
Mitt Romney was FOR raising taxes...
before he was against it!

2002: Romney refuses to sign no new taxes pledge, calls pledges "government by gimmickry": "Romney's gubernatorial campaign spokesman, Eric Fehrnstrom, dismissed such pledges at the time as `government by gimmickry.'" (Scott Helman, "Romney finds `no new taxes' promise suits him after all," Boston Globe, 1/5/07)

2007: Romney signs no new taxes pledge: "Almost five years after he refused to sign a `no new taxes' pledge during his campaign for governor, Mitt Romney announced yesterday that he had done just that, as his campaign for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination began in earnest." (Scott Helman, "Romney finds `no new taxes' promise suits him after all," Boston Globe, 1/5/07)

2003: Romney refuses to endorse Bush tax cuts: "Shawn Feddeman, Romney's spokeswoman, said the governor has neither endorsed nor opposed the tax cut plan because `it's just not a state matter.'" (Wayne Washington, "Romney weighs in - carefully - on Bush tax cut plan, Governor won't give his endorsement," Boston Globe, 4/11/03)

2003: Democrat Congressman Barney Frank elated by Romney's refusal to endorse Bush tax cuts: "`I was very pleased,' Frank said afterward. `Here you have a freshman governor refusing to endorse a tax cut presented by a Republican president at the height of his wartime popularity.'" (Wayne Washington, "Romney weighs in - carefully - on Bush tax cut plan, Governor won't give his endorsement," Boston Globe, 4/11/03)

2007: Romney supports Bush tax cuts: "After refusing to endorse President Bush's tax cuts when he was governor, Mitt Romney has now made them a central part of his presidential campaign, stirring accusations that he is changing his position to appeal to GOP primary voters." (Casey Ross, "Mitt changes tax cut tune," Boston Herald, 2/8/07)

2007: Romney criticizes other candidates for not supporting Bush tax cuts: "McCain opposed President Bush's tax cuts, Romney noted. `I supported them,' the former governor said." (Lee Bandy, "Romney Targeting McCain," The State, 2/4/07)

Romney raised fees and corporate taxes as governor: "Cato [a Washington, DC, free market think tank] found that Romney increased annual state fees by $500 million as governor and proposed two corporate tax increases totaling close to $400 million a year." (Alexander Bolton, "Romney's tax record gets a closer look," The Hill, 3/27/07).

MITT ROMNEY'S RECORD ON GUN CONTROL:
Mitt Romney was FOR gun control...
before he was against it!

1994: Romney says he doesn't line up with the NRA: "At another campaign stop that year, he told reporters: `I don't line up with the NRA.'" (Scott Helman, "Romney retreats on gun control," Boston Globe, 1/14/07)

1994: Romney favored waiting periods on gun sales: "A former advocate of gun control, Romney during his 1994 run for the U.S. Senate backed measures the gun-rights group opposed, such as a five-day waiting period on gun sales and a ban on certain assault weapons." (David Abel, "Romney joined NRA in August, was advocate of gun control," Boston Globe, 2/19/07)

1994: Romney favored assault weapons ban: "He [Romney] is a supporter of the federal assault weapons ban." (Romney Campaign Website, 2002)

2002: Romney says he favors tough gun laws: "And as the GOP gubernatorial candidate in 2002, Romney lauded the state's strong laws during a debate against Democrat Shannon O'Brien. `We do have tough gun laws in Massachusetts; I support them,' he said. `I won't chip away at them; I believe they protect us and provide for our safety.'" (Scott Helman, "Romney retreats on gun control," Boston Globe, 1/14/07)

August 2006: At age 59, and six months before announcing for President, Romney becomes a member of the NRA: "Speaking on ABC's `This Week with George Stephanopoulos,' Romney said he signed up for a lifelong membership `within the last year.'" (David Abel, "Romney joined NRA in August, was advocate of gun control," Boston Globe, 2/19/07)

February 2007: Romney says the NRA is doing good things: "`I think they're doing good things, and I believe in supporting the right to bear arms,' Romney said." (David Abel, "Romney joined NRA in August, was advocate of gun control," Boston Globe, 2/19/07)

April 2007: Romney says he's been a hunter all his life: "I've been a hunter pretty much all my life." ("Romney, self-described lifelong hunter, has hunted twice," Associated Press, 4/4/07)

April 2007: Romney campaign says Romney only hunted twice: "Questions about his hunting activities trailed Romney this past week after he remarked at a campaign stop that he has been a hunter nearly all his life. The next day, his campaign said Romney had gone hunting just twice - once as a teenager in Idaho and last year with GOP donors in Georgia." (Glen Johnson, "Romney clarifies reports on hunting," Associated

Press, 4/7/07) April 2007: Romney says his campaign is wrong, he's hunted more then twice: "`The report that I only hunted twice is incorrect,' Romney said in a statement issued Friday. `I've hunted small game numerous times, as a young man and as an adult.'" (Glen Johnson, "Romney clarifies reports on hunting," Associated Press, 4/7/07)

April 2007: "Lifelong hunter" Romney never took out a hunting license: "Officials in the four states where Mitt Romney has lived say the Republican presidential contender, who calls himself a lifelong hunter, never took out a license." (Glen Johnson, "Romney clarifies reports on hunting," Associated Press, 4/7/07)

I have followed your responses over the last several months and it is apparent to me that your view’s are clearly about him being a Mormon more than his conservative values. I am sick and tired of the Rudy and Mitt people trying to shove their b/s down our necks.

If truely, that you claim to be a conservative, you could not support him. Go to DU.

It's beyond dubious to translate Mitt being against discrimination against gays in 1994 (which btw was not being for gay marriage or anything like it) into being 'left of Ted Kennedy. That was and is a phony claim. Even in 1994, Mitt Romney was pro-school choice, for getting tough on illegal immigration, pro-death penalty, for lower taxes, and for welfare reform... Well to the RIGHT of Ted Kennedy on practically every issue.

There you go again ...

You link to the liberal Boston Globe article to 'prove' that he approved of McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill, but he never did! The article itself says: " Romney did not specifically endorse McCain's bill, saying he had not yet formulated a full position on immigration.".

Now I understand that some folks, like McCain, has done a run-around on that word, but Romney did not approve amnesty then and when he saw that it meant a special path and benefits for illegal immigrants has been against it throughout. The Globe's gotcha journalism actually serves to underscore Romney's point; the Globe had an interview and took the most extreme snippet they could to highlight how far right he moved in 2007, but his comments in 2005 were against amnesty and were merely descriptive about what was out there. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/03/16/romneys_words_grow_hard_on_immigration/?page=2

When faced with the actual bill, this was his actual position: Asked by reporters in Phoenix Tuesday to elaborate on his immigration views, Romney said he disagreed with several aspects of the McCain-Kennedy bill, charging that the legislation sought a special course for illegal immigrants already in the country that "could result in virtual amnesty." "My view is there should be no advantage for those that are here illegally in pursuing a course of permanent residency," Romney said at a press conference at the Arizona Republican Party headquarters. He also indicated he opposes a guest-worker program because it would "substantially increase the number of individuals who would come through on a temporary worker basis and open a path for citizenship for them, as well."

He also made his position known on anchor babies:

Romney has also expressed an openness to changing the US policy of granting automatic citizenship to those born on American soil, regardless of their parents' immigration status. Some conservatives call them "anchor babies," because as adults they can apply to bring their relatives from abroad. Romney's recent rhetoric on immigration has drawn criticism in some quarters, including in Florida, where many politicians are more accepting of immigration as part of the state's heritage. His appearance this week with Arpaio -- a Springfield, Mass., native viewed as a hero by opponents of illegal immigration -- underscores his pursuit of the conservative GOP primary vote. Romney called Arpaio "a man who respects the law, enforces the law, and does his very best to help people by teaching them the principles of the law."

Last point - as Governor, Mitt Romney vetoed in-state tuition for illegal aliens, something McCain supports and Huckabee supports. On this and the other points, the attacks are 1/2 truths in some cases and distortions in others.

BTW, The Liberal Mitt Romney-hating rag, the Boston Globe, owned by the same company that runs the Bush-hating New York Times, is the source for most of your claims. They are heavily invested in Agenda Journalism, the agenda here off course to scuff up Romney’s shoes. In many cases, they have decided to share only part of the story that helps instead of undermining their agenda. Not a rebuttal, but a point of caution in how you use that liberal source.

Wide-Stance Willard wants to expand civil rights to include "sexual orientation". This would, of course, mean that an employer couldn't fire a man for wearing a pink tutu to work.

Being "better than Ted on Gay rights" is indeed trying to position oneself to the left of Ted, no matter how you try to spin it.
