LT GENERAL Hal Moore Joins Operation Gratitude Volunteers on December 1, 2007!
Operation Gratitude ^ | 10/30/2007 | Carolyn Blashek

Posted on 11/06/2007 10:15:31 AM PST by La Enchiladita

Operation Gratitude is delighted to announce that a very special American, Lt. Gen. Hal Moore (Ret.), will join Operation Gratitude Volunteers at the National Guard Armory in Van Nuys, CA on Saturday, December 1 to assemble thousands of Care Packages to be shipped to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan for the Holidays. Lt. Gen. Moore, a legendary Military leader, who co-authored the NY Times #1 best-seller We Were Soldiers Once...and Young, will also be our special guest speaker during our lunch-break starting at Noon.

As a very special gift to be included in every Holiday Care Package, General Moore, through the generosity of Wild Goose Ministries in Vail, Co., has donated 70,000 copies of his most recent inner story, "A General's Spiritual Journey." This beautiful work represents Hal Moore's faith-filled journey from childhood to the battlefield and into his golden years, as told to, and memorialized by, his friend and "Driver."

Good to hear. “We Were Soldiers Once...and Young,” has to be the best book ever to come out of Viet Nam.

Hi, Ronnie. Nice to see you on another thread honoring the Moores.

I followed your link and the statement about Vietnam vets "going to ground" for a number of years struck a chord in me. It just really chaps my keester to see the left trying to smear the Iraq vets using the same kind of tactics they used against you guys. Really disgusting.

I hope the Iraq vets won't feel they have to "go to ground" for a while.

Great links, Ronnie. I look forward to perusing all of them later, took a quick look at some; interesting forum entries on that last link.

Wonder if I can get the book read before I see him. Oops, did I say that? True confession, I'm way behind on reading.

I know I’m sticking my nose in about getting the pkgs to the SF guys in the Philippines: the US post office won’t accept military mail addressed without a specific name. Even though regulations say mail can go out to “any commander” or “any chaplain” (and those are the only ranks/titles mentioned in the regs as acceptable) at a specific address, most postal clerks reject the boxes I’ve tried to send. If ORaGuy can arrange for one member to allow his name to be used (as securely as possible—maybe via freepmail between you??) then underneath that name, you could address pkgs “attn any sfg 1, 2, 3” etc for that contact to distribute to his battle buddies. Just didn’t want you both to be disappointed trying to get the boxes sent.

Perfect timing, Count...

There is some great film in there of American soldiers in Vietnam. Seeing the kids getting drafted, getting the haircut, makes it real...

I don’t think I’ll read all 1,031 comments on the video but some of them, they’re great too. I have this idea that country musicians should get together and do a 2-hour show on nothing but patriotic music, on prime time TV, as a tribute to the troops (instead of another stupid “awards” show to themselves).

Oh, I’m sad to hear that Lt. Gen. Moore’s wife had died. She did so much for the wives of the men serving with her husband.
