With less than a month to go before the Iowa caucuses, the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that Rudy Giuliani has fallen back in the pack in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. Giulianis support has fallen to 18% and four other candidates are within six percentage points of the lead. Mike Huckabee is enjoying an amazing surge and now shares the top spot with Giuliani at 18%. Close behind are John McCain at 14%, Fred Thompson at 13%, and Mitt Romney at 12%. Ron Paul attracts 7% of Likely Republican Primary voters nationwide and no other Republican candidate reaches 2% (see recent daily numbers).
Looks like a five way race to me.
It makes you wonder if Huckabee is grooming Rudy for HIS running mate.
They changed it again? I see it as Thompson is up 1% in 5 days and down 1% since yesterday. Its all within the MOE for him, though, 12-14. The Mayor’s slide is the biggest story. Huckabee appears to have picked up the majority of his former votes.
He's within striking distance of leading.
The Stop Rudy ping list!
E-mail/ping me if you want on/off the list! SPREAD THE WORD!!!
With the exception of a major melt down, I don't see the voters that switched from Fred to Huck (remember in the beginning his surge coincided with Freds decline) switching back to him without him making some major change in his campaign. I don't think Fred can sit around and hope that people realize Hucks nanny state tendencies.
I could be very wrong, but when I saw Huck the other night at the debate, I said WOW, and this is coming from someone that knows his shortcomings, and has no plans to vote for him in the primary. I still say likability trumps almost everything, and Huckabee has that, Fred just doesn't.
If he were a Dem, it would have been a resume enhancer.
Saw this over at the DUmmies board:
"911?
Isn't that the number Judy dials when she needs a taxi or dog-walker?"
Apologies for quoting from the moonbats, but that struck me as being darn funny!
What this may show is a cluster of five candidates who are nearing equivalence.
Since four of them are arguably conservatives, or at least pretending to be conservatives, this suggests that about 70% of the party is supporting conservative candidates.
After the first conservative candidate is forced out, things will begin to clarify.
My money is on Sen. McCain as the first casualty.
After he drops out, we’ll see which of the three remaining conservative candidates picks up the bulk of his support, and I think that that person will be the nominee.
I think that Mr. Giuliani is toast.
I like Fred, but his style is one that some people just don’t care for.
Yeah, Huck did well at the debate.
One thing Fred could do is expose him and that might gain him back at least some of the Huckabee defectors.
I can't believe it. A DUmmie with a sense of humor.
That's good. Really good.
I would bet Fred would get most of that support.
I hope you’re right. I’m not keen on Gov. Huckabee. Although he’s currently talking more like a conservative, his record is pretty mixed, except for the issue of life.
And my own view is that Gov. Romney is a fraud.
I think that Gov. Huckabee may do very well in Iowa and New Hampshire, but it may not matter much. Only candidates with bucks in the bank will be able to move ahead. That certainly includes Mr. Romney. Sen. Thompson and Mr. Giuliani both had good 3rd quarters, and extrapolating from that, likely will be able to continue forth from Iowa and New Hampshire.
But Mr. Giuliani is limited to about 20% - 25% of the Republican electorate, and as the field narrows, that’s just not going to do it. Mr. Giuliani gets to go on from Iowa and New Hampshire, but won’t win the nominaton.
Mr. Huckabee didn’t do that well in the 3rd quarter, as I recall, and extrapolating from there, may not have funds going into the new year to continue forth. Since there’s so little time between New Hampshire and “Super Duper” Tuesday, Feb 5, he may not have time to capitalize on good showings in Iowa and New Hampshire.
As well, Mr. Huckabee may be near his peek. I think that he’s currently the darling of those who don’t know him that well, yet, and they’re projecting their own hopes and dreams onto him. This happened to Mr. Thompson back in June, and his poll status got well into the 20%s. Once folks see where Mr. Huckabee stands on a range of issues, he may drop back some - before Iowa and New Hampshire.
Either way, I’m not sure that he’ll have the necessary staying power.
I think that Mr. McCain was just about dead broke, and I don’t see his position improving any.
Ultimately, I think that the nomination fight will be between Mr. Romney and either Mr. Thompson or Mr. Huckabee. My hopes (and my money) are on Mr. Thompson.

A little insight into the Michigan primary that confirms what I’ve been saying, Romney is screwed!
( Might make for a lively seperate thread? )

Guess him trying laugh off and dismiss his illegal Bookkeeping scam, abusing and misusing the taxpayers money, aka Public Funds, and having the NYPD play Taxi Service and Dog Walker for his MISTRESS as 'old news' and a 'hit job', etc. ain't flying.
And illegal it was.
Some Chicago suburban officials (Harvey, IL) have recently been indicted - and WILL BE CONVICTED (Fitz doesn't lose) -- for basically doing the same thing Rooty did with NY City funds, the NYPD and City Credit Cards.
So in the very near future me thinks Rooty will be looking for a 'favorable poll' from 12 jurors of his peers.

Wrong - Huck is a trumped-up MSM “distraction of the month”. Fred’s patience will pay off big-time, as Rudy, Mitt, and Huck slowly self-destruct.
huckleberry lost 90% of the Republicans with his CLOSE GITMO promise.
LLS
Don’t worry,
Fox News will quickly be out with a poll showing Rudy with double anyone else’s support.
Good analysis, and I would agree.
Let me make another point as well. I know that you and I have had disagreements in the past regarding some issues, but I think we have converged on this point.
Some would say that Huckabee, being (arguably) the most Christian and (arguably) most socially conservative he’s the best choice. I disagree. I believe this is the most blessed nation in the world, for a reason. If we let it become a socialist hellhole, it will no longer be that. If God has indeed blessed this nation, He wants us to protect it, right?
Mike Huckabee is the MSM flavor of the weak.( tag-line for sale)
Even if he can win Iowa it wont help him though.
He will be flat broke with no time to raise money. The primaries that follow wont leave him time to do it.
Grassroots nickles and dimes wont get there fast enough. Only big money power brokers can inject lots of $$ in a hurry.
They would never support Huck.
