Thompson does not have hunting license

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) — Fred Thompson has made a point of visiting gun shops and gun shows while hitting the campaign trail in New Hampshire and South Carolina, usually with camera crews in tow.

But Thompson said Wednesday he does not have a hunting license, nor has be been hunting recently.

"It's been too long, it's been too long," Thompson told CNN Wednesday.

Asked if he has a hunting license, Thompson said he currently does not.

"At the present time I do not, but I have been hunting plenty of times. I usually hunt birds and used to have my own skeet shoot, and I got a chance to shoot and practice a lot back then."

Maybe the question should be:

Do politicans need a campaign donor hunting license...

I think VP Cheney shooting a campaign donor sets the record straight. Let the people help run this country -- not big money donors...

Of course, Democrats have a different view -- the big donors run their party... Let us just try to see if the Democrats Hsu this one away...

(As in shue fly don't bother me, or is it Norman Hsu)

I like that he came out and said this instead of the detail being arduously dragged from him. I appreciate his honesty, it is refreshing. I don’t care about the license at all, it is how he handled it that impresses me.

Fred doesn’t have a hunting licence; who cares?

there are millions of people living in USA without residency permit; CNN doesn’t make a big deal out of it.

He was pretty matter-of-fact about it. That was refreshing. Politicians are always worried about the "spin" -- Fred just said, "Oh okay, yeah, here's what it is."

I just wish he'd taken the opportunity to ADD: "Of course, my interest in firearms extends past hunting, because as we all know, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms isn't really about hunting, it's about defense of life and freedom."

I hope he takes another opportunity and says something like that.

knarf, you and Fred must have a carpenter’s license. That covers everything including hunting.

I have owned guns my whole life. Shot them, collected them, learned about them. I have currently more than 25 opf them from many different eras.

I have never ONCE hunted and have NEVER had a hunting license.

Wonder if CNN/Hanby will once again open the “investigation” of Kerry’s statement about deer hunting when he said he crawled around on his belly deer hunting. (What a maroon, as Buggs used to say.)

Note to self: Invite Hanby to go hunting with Dick Cheney. Remember: “If this is what he does to his friends, imagine what he’ll do to Al Qaeda.”

I agree.

Unfortunately, the must think somebody does... I smell a hidden agenda at CNN.

I can't imagine what their point is, except perhaps to try to leave the impression that because a) Fred is pro-gun, but b) Fred doesn't have a hunting license, that therefore Fred is inconsistent.

I mean, why would a person have guns except to hunt? /SARC

FRED THOMPSON FACTS:

Fred Thompson can shoot a two inch group at 500 yards with a Nerf gun.

Fred Thompson owns one gun so awesome that it violates California state firearms law to even look at it.

Fred Thompson is so pro-American that when he places an ad in the New York Times, they charge him four times their normal rate.

Fred Thompson has never had to discipline his dogs. If they ever feel they have disappointed their master, they commit seppuku.

Fred Thompson not only doesn’t add cream or sugar to his coffee, he doesn’t add water.

What can any Patriotic citizen with an ounce of common sense say about CNN.

I’ll bet Dan Rather is turning (Spinning)in his grave now that the propagandists over at the Clinton News Network have taken his CBS (Could Be Shiite) Ratherization art form to new lows.

I have to laugh. I still remember that fool Kerry trying to sound like a country boy with his, "Can I get me a hunting license here?," in 2004

That's not Fred.

Our licenses are yearly, I believe you can get long term but the majority are renewable per season. I don't have one either. I've bought many over the years however. Don't see the point of their attack other than a display of ignorance. Typical...

Great point. The second Amendment is not about hunting but about the right to defend against tyranny. When people act as though the Amendment is just about hunting they are marginalizing the main point which is the right to resit against attack from overbearing government.

So should I expect CNN (rot and stink that it is) to now ask democrats if they have had an abortion or paid for one?

Bullseye!

I could have written the first two lines in your post.

Up here, hunting season coincides with heating season. Uncle Sam made me stay out in the cold too often for me to want to do that.

Hunting in warmer climes is of some interest....

But right now what I really want to do is pimp my SKS...

I don’t have a hunting license either, but that doesn’t stop me from attending gun shows and supporting the second amendment (which isn’t about hunting, BTW).
