Boy, the leftmedia is getting desperate.

I'm not a Huckabee supporter but I hate to see the media combing through candidates lives to dig up something that can be spun to make the candidate look bad. This 'story' (about an incident that occurred with Huckabee's then-teenage son in 1998) makes Huckabee look bad or at least, a bit too much like a generic politician that freely uses his power to reward those he favors and punish those he doesn't. Unfortunately, I have no idea what is the truth and Huckabee basically denies most of the allegations. His son isn't talking. Probably a good idea.

I suspect that a majority of Americans are sick to death of the constant smearing of candidates by opponents. NewsWeek is transparently attempting to smear Huckkabee, especially with the so-called 'religious right'. I doubt this 'revelation' will have the intended effect. Even if Huckabee's son did something dumb when he was a teenager and his father intervened - or tried to - this is hardly a disqualification for the Republican presidential nomination. It would likely be a benefit if Hucksbee were running for the Democrat nomination.

The Clinton's committed actual crimes, felonies, that were ignored, glossed over or simply dismissed by the media as 'not relevant' or, like Whitewater, termed 'old news'. If that is the criteria, then this Huckabee-related 'dead dog' story from 9 years ago certainly qualifies as 'old news', and is thus 'irrelevant'.

Astute observation.

My first reaction is that now they've drawn a moral equivalence story with Romney for putting the family dog in a cartop carrier while they went on vacation.

But I think yours may be more on target. It certainly is a lot funnier!

I’m no fan of Hucky-the-Clown, but this is a dumb article. A really dumb article.

This article is more likely to gain support from those “conservatives” who say they support Huckabee. In that sense that may be Newsweek’s intent.

HUCKSTER huck·ster noun: (dictionary.com)

-a person who employs showy methods to effect a sale, win votes, etc.: the crass methods of political hucksters.
-a cheaply mercenary person.

ANY loving father would use any influence he had to keep his son from being prosecuted. Especially when the charge is as trivial as the killing a freakin' dog.

The hatred for Huckabee is really despicable. It will probably ending up creating a backlash in his favor.

While I believe PETA stands for People Eating Tasty Animals, I don't see hanging a dog as "something as silly as this." Young people who torture and kill animals have a nasty predisposition to harm people.

Huckabee himself recently responded to a rumored Scott McClellan comment by stating that the matter should be investigated thoroughly. On the flip side, Huckabee appears to have used the power of his office to squish an investigation of his son.

Huckabee doesn't pass the sniff test.

Perhaps in your mind but in the world of politics and reality he’s toast.

"Animal cruelty in Arkansas is a misdemeanor, not a felony."

In some quarters it's probably considered a virtue.

" especially over something as silly as this?"

What rock you been under? - ask Michael Vick how silly HE thinks it is.

To kill in a quite manner. Named after a 19th century British murderer, who along with a friend and their wives, killed people and sold the bodies to medical schools.

Sorry I got to disagree on this one. This kind of stuff is going to come out , the sooner the better. We might not like it but what candidates families do reflects on the candidate. This was his son and if the charges are true it is a Michael Vick moment and if he tried to suppress it we need to know. Governors son's are not suppose to get special treatment.

I was browsing through some blogs at homeschoolblogger.com, and was disappointed by how many of them support Huckabee. I think, though, that fewer and fewer conservatives will support him as they learn more. I’m glad the MSM is putting out everything they know about him now rather than later.

"So his boy hung a stray dog, and this is bad for the Huckster, why? "

Seven months later, he was called into Huckabee's office and fired. "I've lost confidence in your ability to do your job," Bailey says Huckabee told him. One reason Huckabee cited was "I couldn't get you to help me with my son when I had that problem," according to Bailey. "Without question, [Huckabee] was making a conscious attempt to keep the state police from investigating his son," says I. C. Smith, the former FBI chief in Little Rock,

Maybe because he fired a career state policeman?

"...as trivial as the killing a freakin' dog."

If that's how you really feel about the hanging and killing of a dog, then you sir are one sick puppy yourself. Shame on you.
