A Son's Past Deeds Come Back to Bite Huckabee
Newsweek ^ | December 15, 2007 | Michael Isikoff

Posted on 12/15/2007 2:20:04 PM PST by Choose Ye This Day

As Mike Huckabee gains in the polls, the former Arkansas governor is finding that his record in office is getting more scrutiny. One issue likely to get attention is his handling of a sensitive family matter: allegations that one of his sons was involved in the hanging of a stray dog at a Boy Scout camp in 1998. The incident led to the dismissal of David Huckabee, then 17, from his job as a counselor at Camp Pioneer in Hatfield, Ark.

< snip > ... no charges were ever filed. But John Bailey, then the director of Arkansas's state police, tells NEWSWEEK that Governor Huckabee's chief of staff and personal lawyer both leaned on him to write a letter officially denying the local prosecutor's request.

< snip > "Without question, [Huckabee] was making a conscious attempt to keep the state police from investigating his son," says I. C. Smith, the former FBI chief in Little Rock, who worked closely with Bailey and called him a "courageous" and "very solid" professional

I guess the Main Stream Media's love affair with Huckabee is fading. I thought this stuff wouldn't come out until after he got the nomination.

They couldn’t take the chance that the Huckster might win.

I think it more likely that Hilary decided there should only be one of her in the race, and by having two, it was giving Obama a leg up.

Huckabee shot down any chance that anyone in my family would vote for him, when he criticized the President on Iraq, and supported the liberals prize issue, "global warming".

Stick a fork in Huckabee, hes done.

After this, I don't want to see anyone claim the MSM is helping Huckabee. This story is a cheap shot at anyone running for office. I could care less about anything Huckabee's son has done.

I think some of them are in love with him because they think Hillary or Obama would whooop him.

Others of them are scared of him because they fear that Hillary or Obama might lose to Huckabee.

Afterall, Huckabee is very liberal on most issues. He would probably give Hillary and Obama a run for their money on whether the government should increase taxes on the “rich” to subsidize the poor. He’d be in favor of reducing the prison population. He’d agree with the Democrats on illegal immigration. In the end, the election would become a referendum on abortion and gay rights, since Huck pretty much agrees with Hillary and Obama on everything else.

And the media is not so certain that it wants a referendum on those issues. Some of them do. Some of them don’t.

Interesting. It seems to me that he a loser candidate, but the leftists are so out of touch with the feelings of what they call the religious right they may fear that he will sweep to victory.

This one sounds like a piece of hillary research.

Isikoff, I believe, is the guy whose story about Monica got spiked, which subsequently led to clinton’s impeachment when Drudge found out about it and broke the story. Maybe he found it on his own, who knows?

Wait until the Dim personal destruction smear machine gets under way. With the Hildabeast practice in the destruction of Bubba’s indiscretions... experience will count.

IMHO, it’s not what his son did, but Huckabee’s attempt to cover it up and use his influence to burke the investigation.

My view, too. The more the MSM goes after him with stuff like this, the better.

I guess they thought twice about holding onto the garbage — what if he DID win and Huckabee would head up America’s first theocracy?

I agree that any remote chance that anyone in my family could vote for Huckaby went out with the bathwater when he assailed a war-time President in the fashion that he did.

Plus, he looks a little too much like Nixon....

Plus, do we really need ANOTHER Arkansas Governor in the White House?

It’s not a question of what his son did but whether Huckabee abused his position to get him off, and whether he fired a subordinate for correctly refusing to intervene.

It’s a bit of a he said, she said tale.

Bullcrap on all this MSM wanting Huck to be the nominee. The most coveted voting block by both parties is the social conservatives, period. The right wants to energize, and the left wants to depress voter turnout.

Huckabee would energize the social conservatives. The leftist media is going to struggle, with flyover gomer pyle influence, to reconcile thier best chances. Nominating a social conservative on the right dims their chances and they will realize it soon it enough. The only way they can win is by nominating a Rino like Rudy or Mitt. Building up gomer’s chances is the worst thing they could do.

Watch for the turnaround.

Vote Fred.

I concur, but this allegation is BS. There’s plenty of legitimate issues to make Huckabee quiver and shake, they should knock this off. It could backfire on the anti-bee’s.

Maybe Hillary would like to have the MSM discussing someone’s slippage besides hers. If they throw out all the dirt they have on Huckabee, she might get a bit of relief.

If you won't do anything you could to find a way to spare your son from being prosecuted, especially over something as silly as this?

There are plenty of legitimate issues with Huckabee. But, stooping this low to attack him is sub-human.

So his boy hung a stray dog, and this is bad for the Huckster, why?

Na, only the NYC liberal big media has the power and the reach to affect poll #s, they will not touch him, since he agrees with them on most issues.
