“...including the possibility of severing diplomatic ties with the United States and EU countries, officials said Tuesday.”

Well, gee, that will teach us. We’re cowering in fear already I’m sure.

Serbia has got some pretty potent friends in this little muck-up! The roots of major war are often found in this type of “minor” conflicts...

It has certainly been a great disappointment that the Bush administration has continued to support clinton’s criminal war against Yugoslavia, which was a violation of international law, American law, and UN law—but more than that, was entirely against our national interests and the interests of Western civilization.

But it’s not just the Bush administration. The whole Republican party, with few exceptions, has remained silent. And the club of conservative gurus has remained silent. It is most ironic that the only supporter of our longtime friend and ally in that region is one of our deadliest enemies, Vladimir Putin.

Of all clinton’s crimes in office, his wars in Bosnia and Kosovo were probably the worst.

This should make sure Serbia ends up in a situation where they have no choice but to take a very pro-russian stance. Brilliant.

The fact the Serbia bombing was allowed to go virtual unchallenged, and remain so for nearly a decade, says to me that this action had support at some level or place that the GOP knew better than to challenge. Contrast with the opposition to the Iraq invasion today, and the open criticism from the DNC.

“The roots of major war are often found in this type of “minor” conflicts...”

Or more literally, one of the 2 most destructive wars ever was in part ignited in what today is serbia.

Don't forget that during the last crisis involving Serbia and Kosovo, we almost got into a shooting war with Russia.

If I remember correctly, a flight of RAF fighter-bombers was vectored in on what was thought to be a formation of Serbian armor heading toward the main airport in Kosovo, but was called off at the last minute when it was realized that the ground force was actually Russian.

Does anyone recall the exact details of this incident?

Serbia has Russia...maybe. And yes, Russia is powerful, but I don’t think Russia wants to go to war over Kosovo. And if they do, well, let them. Let them lose tens of thousands or even millions to accomplish...what? Keeping Kosovo? Yeah, that’s worth a really big, long war with a protracted guerilla campaign afterward! By the end of that war, Serbia might not even exist either. No Kosovo. No Serbia. More room for everybody else?

Let Europe deal with this situation.

Why are we supporting the same people there, who supported the Nazis??

Must we be involved in everything?

Technically the spark flared in what is today Bosnia.

You’re probably thinking of the Pristina airport incident, where Wesley Clark, the NATO commander ordered British general Michael Jackson(no relation to the strange Michael Jackson) to evict Russian troops, by force if necessary, from the Pristina airport and General Jackson reportedly said, “I’m not going to start WWIII for you.”

Clark's term as NATO commander was cut short for that minor faux pas.

Here you go...

you’ve got to love this man:

(from Wikipedia)

NATO

In 1997 (General Sir Michael David “Mike”) Jackson was appointed Commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps. He served in the NATO chain of command as a deputy to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Wesley Clark.

In this capacity, he is best known for refusing, in June 1999, to block the runways of the Russian-occupied Pristina Airport, to isolate the Russian troops there.[1]

Had he complied with General Clark’s order, there was a chance the British troops under his command could have come into armed conflict with the Russians; doing this without prior orders from Britain would have led to his dismissal for gross insubordination. On the other hand, defying Clark would have meant disobeying a direct order from a superior NATO officer (Clark was a four-star general; Jackson only a three-star).

Jackson ultimately chose the latter course of action, reputedly saying “I won’t start World War III for you”,[1] though the point became irrelevant when the American government prevailed upon the Hungarians, Romanians, and Bulgarians to prevent the Russians from using their airspace to fly reinforcements in.

As a result, he was dubbed “Macho Jacko” by the British tabloid press. Among his own troops and the British press, however, Jackson had a reputation for being severe, and prone to anger, earning him the nicknames “Darth Vader” and “Prince of Darkness”.[2]

Jackson went on to serve as Commander-in-Chief, Land Command from 2000 to 2003.

It might be appropriate to once again repeat some telling figures. I read an article by Dr Srdja Trifkovic (Chronicles Magazine). This on FR.

1899. population of Kosovo. 47.8 per cent Albanian. 43.7 per cent Serb.
2005.population of Kosovo. 88 percent Albanian. 1.7 per cent Serb.

The hiss of the female "news readers" on the MSMis with me yet. This in the Clinton's war.

"Ethic cleansing, ethnic cleansing"

Meaning the Serbs of course.

Another interesting point, which I too am trying to remember, Mady Not-All-to-Bright was arguing with the Brits as to who was going to march into and occupy Pristina first…The Americans or the Brits. While she was squabbling with the Brits, the Russians literally walked into Pristina Airport. I do remember laughing very hard at Not-All-to-Bright at what she considered priority.

That was actually the SECOND time Weasly Clark tried to start World War III.

Russia had a couple of spy ships in the Adriatic making notes on our conduct of the war in Yugoslavia for future use. Clark gave orders to bomb and sink those ships. Fortunately, word got back to Washington and his orders were overruled before they could be carried out.

The man was an idiot. It is said that his fellow officers called him The Ultimate Perfumed Prince.

It’s not the first time America betrayed the Serbs. Roosevelt sent emissaries as the Second World War was drawing to a close, ordering that Yugoslavia should be turned over to his pal Stalin. That sorry betrayal is portrayed in the third novel of Evelyn Waugh’s “Sword of Honour” trilogy.

I’m convinced that one of the reasons clinton did it was because he got a cut of the action from the Albanian drug runners. After the takeover of Kosovo, the heroin trade into Europe promptly doubled.
