Wondering about the early response to Fred Thompsons closing argument to the people of Iowa, I just spent a moment skimming the comments on YouTube. About a fifth of the several hundred posts seem unimpressed, but the rest are positivemany simply glowing. A sampling:
If you call yourself a conservative, you need to vote for this man!
Wow. Watch the whole thing; it's a little long. I had to wipe a tear from my eye at the end. THIS should be our next President. I know who I am voting for now.
Ladies and Gentlemen: The President of the United States of America!
Anybody with any patriotism that lives in this country, should see that Fred is right person for the Presidency. He is true to form! This just ignited a big fire in my gut!
WOW, When I watched this, it was like having one of the greatest Presidents of our time talking Directly to me. That was AweInspiring, Thank You Fred!
This is what the American people have been waiting to here. Clear, powerful, humble, honest and Our next president,Fred Thompson
Damn!!!! just Damn!!!!!
While the other contenders are frantically saturating the Iowa airwaves with 30- and 60-second attack adsRomney is guiltiest, if only because hes richestThompson has sat himself down, looked into a camera, and spoken for a quarter of an hour, calmly and straightforwardly making his case. I myself find this impressivein a way, moving. Thompson seems to have stepped out of the eighteenth century. He trusts voters to think. And if the comments on YouTube are at all representative, plenty of people agree.
Which brings me to a couple of questions for Our Man in Iowa, Byron York. How many Iowa Republicans will have the chance to see the Thompson video? Has Thompsons campaign bought television time? Do they have the money? For that matter, is there a single television outlet in the Hawkeye State with any airtime left?
While we await Mr. Yorks next dispatch, take a look at the Thompson video. Politics as, from time to time at least, they really ought to be.
If you lean towards Fred at all, please e-mail Fred's video to ANY Iowa republican that you know!
Fred in ‘08
This seems to be typical of the positive response to Fred’s message. He has hit a strong chord. The only way it it will not have a positive impact on this race is if too few have a chance to see and hear it. Let’s each do our best to keep this circulating.
Nope. The majority support RINOs. If not Mitt, then Rudy and McCain. Sad...but NR has declined through the years as the conservative movement has shifted to the right, it stayed put. For example, in the mid-60s it was piking for 'conservative' George H.W. Bush. Like Goldwater, perhaps conservative in that era but not by today's standards.

I think this is the video in question.
Here's another great video of Fred doing a Radio Town Hall...Fred Thompson: Decorah, IA - 12/18/07
“Is the National Review coming around to Fred after endorsing Mitt? Buyer’s remorse?”
I wish. As long as K-Lo has her schoolgirl crush on Romney, nothing will change.
OUTSTANDING!!
And the fact that it has made the top of DRUDGE is VERY significant!!
Having the link there is just about the very best anyone could hope for.
Thank you Matt Drudge!!
Can you imagine the impact this video would have if it were to make it onto the air waves? Even if it were just radio...
Go Fred!
That video shows Fred at his conservative best.
GO FRED GO!!!
Well, FNC just ran their obligatory morning hitpiece against Fred. I'm not kidding you -- they entitled it "Fizzle in the Belly", and the hostess and BOTH guests slammed Fred. The usual stuff -- "no fire in the belly", "doesn't want the job", yada yada yada.
So you are correct that it's all up to us in the blogosphere.

Fred Thompson’08!
I’m glad to see such a good response to the video, both on this thread that you posted and blogs. It’s great.
Not likely.
Okay, judging by the hit pieces and lies once again hitting the press about Thompson along with a few polls I would now say Fred has definitely moved somewhat upward in the polls. Elsewise why would they feel the need to once again destroy him?
Doesn’t mean he’s winning, but it does mean he’s gotten some traction in Iowa that they want to put down for fear it’d grow.
Can’t have an actual conservative that doesn’t pander defy their preordained outcome after all.
No, I’m not delusional and do not believe everything they do is in reaction to fear of Thompson. but I do believe the liberals want segments of the GOP base to remain fragmented, and thompson wouldn’t do that. And i do believe some “conservatives” already picked their horse and dislike the one that didn’t beg them for acceptance. they can’t explain why they don’t support him and support the other, given their “other” has a liberal record and thompson doesn’t. Frankly i think a lot of people have lost credibility and we’re going to get shellacked in ALL races because of it if thompson isnt the nominee. because I just don’t see the RECORDS of the other candidates being stomached by enough in the base to turn the election positively. Could be wrong, but we’ll see.
