He's pro life, liberty, gun, constitution, originalist judges, federalism, small government, low taxes, economic freedom, secure borders, strong defense, national security, national sovereignty, etc.
He's the most reliable conservative in the field and comes without the social liberalism, abortionism, nanny statism, open borders, gun grabbing, big government, big spending, big tax leanings and unstable knife in the back RINO baggage of Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee and McCain.
He doesn't cater to the global warming, socialized health care, or open borders/amnesty crowds. Just say no to all this liberal garbage.
With Fred, we know we're getting a solid, no-nonsense, commonsense pro life and liberty conservative who will defend the nation, secure the borders, defend the constitution, appoint originalist judges, defend the Bush tax cuts, work to simplify and flatten the tax code, keep social security solvent while providing alternative private accounts, reduce government and spending, and work to return states issues to the states. Imagine that.
In fact, he comes closest to being the conservative leader I've been praying for all these years. I don't know about you, but I think it would be great to be able to enthusiastically support and work for a true conservative candidate whose principles and convictions match so many of my own.
Also, he'll beat the socks off any liberal Democrat in the debates and during the campaign. The Democrat will be pushing to end the war and bring the troops home on some arbitrary date (ie, total defeat for us), pushing for universal health care, pushing to roll back the tax cuts and increase taxes on the "rich," pushing global warming, pushing comprehensive immigration reform (amnesty), pushing for gay rights, and for any and all manner of big government nanny state/socialist federal programs.
Fred will advance the commonsense conservative constitutional/federalist answer for all these issues, ie, "no." All of the other leading Republican candidates will try to outdo the liberal in pushing one or more of the "conservative" universal health insurance plan, the "conservative" solution to global warming, the "conservative" solution to immigration reform (amnesty), the "conservative" federal solution for education, the "conservative" solution to balance the budget (ie, this means tax increases rather than cutting government), etc., etc. Now, in all of the above sentences where I enclosed the word "conservative" in quotes, re-read them as "RINO.") In other words, the RINOs will compromise and give up the fight and give in to the liberals. They win, we lose.
He also recognizes that we are in a war between civilizations and that our very survival as a free and secure nation among free and secure nations hinges on defeating Islamic extremism and ending the scourge of International terrorism. The war must be fought to the finish, and fought to the total annihilation of organized terrorism. And, no, it is NOT the same as fighting crime. War is hell!
If I were a resident of Iowa today, I know I would caucus for Fred!
GO, FRed, GO!!
I think there’s a strong possibility Thompson will grab the headlines tonight. A strong third and he takes the healines from Romney and Huckabee.
Sorry I just don’t believe he is as conservative as he claims he is.....
Thank you, Jim.
But for your site (and the persistence of its members), Fred would not have a fighting chance.
You have (and may yet more) actually change the country — not a lot of people get the opportunity to do that in this world -— especially the most powerful, best, country in the history of the world.
That is the only flaw I can think of in regards to him and his campaign. That doesn’t make him any less qualified, but perhaps a little more difficult to elect.
JMHO2
Yep.
He’s right on just about any issue you care to name...but he simply doesn’t give the appearance he actually wants the job.
Well, I don’t believe you exist.
From a FR Post from several months ago. Still true .
There are three GOP frontrunners. All are wonderful men, two of them are legitimate national heroes. But all have fatal flaws.
Lets list them.
John McCain is a patriot from a patriot family. His father and grandfather both of whom rose to the rank of four-star admiral stood together on the deck of the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrendered. John McCain was the third successive generation of his family to graduate from the Naval Academy at Annapolis.
And he capped his fearless service to this country as a longtime prisoner of the brutal North Vietnamese.
John McCain is an American hero.
But hes also a both-sides-of-the-street Republican who tends to mock conservatives more than he represents them. And, when Teddy Kennedy stood up to offer amnesty to every illegal alien in the country, John McCain was standing right there beside him.
That is the last straw. Weve already had one Republican president who refused to defend the borders, we will not tolerate another one.
So McCain is out.
Rudy Giuliani is an outstanding man. His work cleaning up New York City, and then responding with inspiring leadership abilities in the wake of September 11, make him an outstanding candidate for president.
Unfortunately, hed make a better Democratic candidate because his personal philosophies are far more consistent with the values of that party than the Republican Party.
Rudy is a liberal, plain and simple. And that just doesnt fit with the philosophy and purpose of the Republican Party.
Which brings us to Mitt Romney. Less impressive as a leader, more impressive as an organizer. Mitt Romneys strength is that he has created a superbly constructed and richly financed campaign. It is a tremendous asset and strength which might propel him into the nomination.
But he wasnt a war hero, and the most notable aspect of his elective career other than essentially socializing Massachusetts medicine was failing to stop gay marriage from coming to his state.
My beef is that Mitt Romney seems to have been a certified liberal until he was 58 years old. Then he seems to have begun a public preparation for the presidency, including a miraculous and convenient conversion to conservatism. He has, over the last two years, reversed himself on almost all the big issues of the day. I just cant get my mind around how a man of his age could so resoundingly change his world view.
Also, I think sometimes he doesnt tell the truth. His account of his experience as a firearms supporter claiming to have been a hunter all his life seems to have been shown to be a fabrication.
So, Mitt Romney is not the guy for me.
Fred Thompson, however, he walks on water.
No, hes not perfect. No, hes not the second coming of Ronald Reagan.
But he is an unusually bright, gifted and experienced leader whose entire public life has been dedicated to being a genuine card-carrying conservative. He doesnt believe that man causes global warming, he doesnt believe in open borders, and he doesnt believe in gun control.
Hes everything Hillary Clinton is not. Heck, hes everything George W. Bush is not.
The Republican Party is on the verge of becoming pointless. It has so cynically sold out its core beliefs and supporters that it is now nothing more than a cheap copy of the Democratic Party.
George W. Bush has given us record deficits, a massive new welfare program, the attempted federalization of education, unrestricted illegal immigration, the right war fought the wrong way and now hes a convert to global warming. Republicans gave him the White House and he gave them the shaft.
And theyre hankering for a little bit of the old-time religion, a genuine conservatism that is about something bigger than just winning the next election. In fact, real Republicans like, presumably, real Democrats see winning elections as a means, not an end. And while Republicans over most of the last 10 years have been good at winning elections, they have proven woefully inadequate at making those wins count for anything when it comes to advancing conservative policies that will help and strengthen America.
Which is where Fred Thompson comes in.
He is the last chance real Republicans have of getting a candidate on the ballot.
Which is why I hope he runs.
Which is why I hope he wins.
I hope alot of Iowans see things your way, Jim!
I'd give more, but my wife doesn't understand the importance.
I have a good feeling about Fred and his chances.
GO FRED GO!!!
I feel it's crucial that we have either Hunter or Thompson in that chair behind the "big desk". I sure hope the undecideds surprise the heck out of us!
And the others in this race? Either Attorneys, politicians or both as well, I believe. So where does a person find a REAL Sprite conservative?
FRED PING!
Indeed. Fred is the only one of the top candidates I can vote for. (I wish Hunter and Tancredo had done better)
ML/NJ
God bless you, Jim, for all you do and God bless all the freepers.
At least he's a d*mn sight better than Rudy McRomabee! (I, myself, would rather have Hunter but we go to vote with what we have)
