Fred Thompson's campaign is denying reports this morning that the GOP presidential contender will drop out of the race after Iowa.
A story in Politico said that Thompson "will drop out of the race within days if he finishes poorly in Thursday's caucus."
Rich Galen, an adviser to Fred Thompson, said it would be an understament to say that he is strongly denying the story. "I can't put enough adjectives in front of the 'deny' to accurately describe how vehemently I'm denying the story," he said in an e-mail. Scott Will, Iowa Political Director for Friends of Fred Thompson, confirmed that the e-mail statement is accurate.
Galen said Thompson has scheduled events Saturday and Sunday in New Hampshire, and then he plans to campaign in in South Carolina.
Again, the question is: WHO PLANTED THE FAKE STORY?
1. Romney
2. Huck
3. DNC
Smart’s money’s on the Romney Sleaze Machine.
don’t think so....
I think 2. and 3. are the same answer.
It’s appears the RSM via the Politico ....
As I’ve noted before, Politico is biased to the left. They cannot be trusted, and here’s yet another instance. I think they get their instructions from the DNC.
This kind of dirty work can’t just be leaked. It’s done on orders from above. And the timing is obviously part of the game. Couldn’t be worse timing for Fred, of course.
Since they started it, they would know.
My guess would be McCain....he has more to gain.
McClame is my guess.
He’s the RINO with the biggest nosehorn and loves goring real Republicans.
My guess it was generated by the MSM itself.
It had to be McCain, since thompsons endorsement would go there.McCain is still in this only because of the media. He’s plum out of money, otherwise.
See, I would doubt McCain, as I understood McCain and Thompson -— while ideologically at issues -— to be personal friends.
If true, McCain is beneath disgusting (not that I liked him before).
4. The reporters invented the source
Yep. I heard a report last night that there was an anti-Thompson phone push going on stating the same thing . If that report is correct , it indicates a money operation .
We know who has the money in Iowa to pull it off ....
And don’t forget this little gem :

No,McCain plays fake dirty tricks on himself then blames others if he loses. He did it here in SC in 2000 and is still, ala Gore/Loserman,blaming others for losing Carolina.
This stink is pure Huckabile.
I agree with your post 12 . While they differ on many issues , they are indeed friends .
Dirty money = Romney, of course.
What a sleaze.
The Fred Thompson dropping out lie was just repeated on CBS NY (Channel 2). I did not believe it when it was reported. I immediately got on Free Republic for immediate deprogramming.
We will all know who the winner is tonight! Then on to New Hampshire! It’s all very interesting. I agree, McCain is disgusting....however, if he is the nominee, I will hold my nose and vote for him.
Some of you anti-Mitt haters on these threads are as dirty pool players as any hit job you claim is being done on your pet candidates. You accuse with absolutely no knowledge and no proof, and then go on the verbal attack against Romney so you can further spew venom in your attempts to knock Mitt down as a candidate. You are equally vile as any dirty trickster who attacks ANY candidate, by doing something equally as irresponsible and rotten. You just do it in the open, using the excuse of dirty tricks to go after any candidate you loathe verbally. Disgusting.
