Politico should name their sources. If Fred is dropping out then the “insiders” would already be losing their jobs so what do they have to lose? (Besides their reputations and any chance of ever being taken seriously in politics...)

My guess it was generated by the MSM itself.

Good guess. The media doesn't like Fred. They only like candidates that Hillary! can beat.

That’s a relief. He’s the only one I really like!

Rush pooh-poohed the fake statement about Fred quitting, came closer again to endorsing Fred, then utterly destroyed the Huckster on his show today.
Somebody, other than that other liar from Hope, also has a search and slime War Room.

Fred’s on the Sean Hannity show now, and sounds very comfortable and positive. He denied this story in one sentence (”Sean, you ought to know not to listen to the media”), and then talked about why he’s interested in the presidency, some of his foreign affairs credentials, and his comfort in just being himself doing what he thinks would be best for the country. When did B. Hussein or Hillary ever mention “what’s best for the country” that didn’t involved more taxes, more regulation, and more restraints on our freedom? GO FRED!

As noted upthread, this is not the first time Romney got caught lying about Fred:

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2007/09/10/antithompson_site_connects_to.html

Before you deny it’s true, rememebr Romney even had to do a non-apology apology for that particular fake website.

This is just in character for Romney.

I agree.
I’m a Fredhead but a President Mitt would not ruin my life.
However,a President McCain,Paul or Huckabee would.
Mitt has his shortcommings but he does not deserve the nasty he gets here.

Because I don’t like to think like that I don’t want to pin this on McCain but I would point out that his temper and lack of control of same is legendary. Maybe he thinks that Thompson entering the race at all is a knife in the back so he sees it as responding in kind.

I also suspect that it is a sleaze attack, but I am sure that John McCain is above that sort of thing. I would not vote for him because of his age, but if he was 20 years younger he would be my man.

I don’t think the Politico needs anyone to plant a negative story. They just make stuff up.

They seem to have the same politics as the New Republic or Huffington Post.

Which means they don’t like Fred.

Our Sen.DeMint endorsed Mitt, our Sen.Grahamnesty went for McCain (sooooo predictable!)and our Gov.Sanford is staying out of it (a good conservative other than his ignorant acceptance of Globaloney)so our independent state Republicans are gonna give Fred the GOP nomination after Huck crashes in NH and Mich.
Bank on it—as SC goes so goes the South.
You can fergit super duper Tuesday Feb 5.

“So you really like yor rino huh?”

I like a good man who is a good conservative. We’ll see where this all goes during this next month. It will be interesting. Remember, Thompson supported McCain’s CFR. That was a pretty RINO move to make, don’t you agree?

It doesn’t matter if Romney is the biggest RINO on earth, Flaglady is right that people use smear tactics against him. If you have evidence that Romney people started this rumor, produce it.

From Wikipedia...

John F. Harris and Jim VandeHei left The Washington Post to become The Politico's editor-in-chief and executive editor, respectively. The Politico is financed by Robert Allbritton, chairman and chief executive of Allbritton Communications, which owns television stations in Washington and elsewhere. Frederick J. Ryan Jr., former Assistant to U.S. President Ronald Reagan[2], and currently chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Foundation, is president and CEO of The Politico.[3]

The Politico is a partner with several news outlets who co-report and distribute its video, print, and audio content. Partners include CBS News,[5] Allbritton Communications's ABC stations WJLA and KTUL,[6], and radio station WTOP.[7]

Rumors such as this are bad news for the candidate in question. The very fact many take them seriously suggests the weakness of the candidacy. No matter how much his defenders do to turn things around the suspicion is always there that the original rumor had substance.
