SWAT officers invade home, take 11-year-old at gunpoint
WND ^ | Jan 7, 2008 | Bob Unruh

Nearly a dozen members of a police SWAT team in western Colorado punched a hole in the front door and invaded a family's home with guns drawn, demanding that an 11-year-old boy who had had an accidental fall accompany them to the hospital, on the order of Garfield County Magistrate Lain Leoniak. The boy's parents and siblings were thrown to the floor at gunpoint and the parents were handcuffed in the weekend assault, and the boy's father told WND it was all because a paramedic was upset the family preferred to care for their son themselves. Someone, apparently the unidentified paramedic, called police, the sheriff's office and social services, eventually providing Leoniak with a report that generated the magistrate's court order to the sheriff's office for the SWAT team assault on the family's home in a mobile home development outside of Glenwood Springs, the father, Tom Shiflett, told WND.

The taxpayer votes the government representative out of office, and let’s the new guy know his job is on the line too if things don’t change.

I bet that if I entered the Sheriff’s home without his permission, him being “rude and confrontational” would be the least of my worries.

But I can see his point. The absolute gall of the slaves to think that they have rights.

Again, the blame goes back to the people, not all but enough have abacated their rights and responsibilities to care for themselves and demanding that the Government do this for them.

This is where we are and it is only going to get worse.

See #45,

OK I read it, but I still don't see how sticking it to the taxpayers is going to make the government stop these abuses. The government LOVES sticking it to the taxpayers. After all 99.9999999% of the government answers to no one except other bureaucrats. Look at the federal government. Approx. 19,000,000 employees and only 537 are elected. And even the elected ones are insulated from taxpayer outcries because most of the voters don't pay taxes. The ONLY thing that will stop this is the successful CRIMINAL prosecution of the police and magistrate involved in this. If they face personal consequences for their actions then it will stop - not before.

"The only way these tyrannical abuses of power will ever end is when the public outcry becomes greater than the resisting forces. It’s going to take, at a minimum, a legal crisis to accomplish that."

On a more fundamental level, we need to get back to thinking of law enforcement personnel as servants, and not masters. Of course, there has to be a corresponding shift in thinking on the part of LEOs as well. But we can affect that once we properly view law enforcement's place in society.

So yes, I think it needs to be a significant impact.

I understand your outrage but "shutting down" a state seems a little.. well .. retarded.

We would have to change the number of stars on all the flags.

Checking on the kid is one thing. But SWAT? It IS an abuse of power & it’s only the beginning.

The taxpayer votes the government representative out of office

Ha ha. MIGHT be possible if voters = taxpayers, but that isn't true. Most voters pay negligable taxes. Look at the table of who pays what taxes Kongress has successfully shifted 85% of the tax burden to 25% of the taxpayers. This figure applies to income tax, but it is approximately proportional for other taxes as well (wealthier people have bigger houses and pay more real estate tax etc.)

I keep saying, these over the top police tactics with their tasers for traffic violations and swat teams for looking American on a sunny day, Is purposefully to condition the sheeple to expect that sort of behaver. God forbid they should have the same reaction to illegal aliens.

And this will help the situation exactly how? Just exactly how is screwing someone who had nothing to do with it going to rein in the JBTs?

EXACTLY! The focus ought to be a huge financial penalty paid by the Judge, the Self-serving and self-important NAZI Paramedic, and both lose their jobs...never to serve in such capacities again.

“You want to see Colorado shut down?”

In terms of attracting national attention to a growing problem that amounts to constitutional cancer that would perhaps be preferable to what will eventually happen ie: People are gonna start shooting back at these unwarranted and unwarrantable assaults on homes.

But he said Shiflett was "rude and confrontational" when the paramedics arrived and entered his home without his permission.

I guess I'd be rude and confrontational too, by sticking a 12 guage in the paramedic's face and telling him to buzz off.

“No. Cop mind is on automatic pilot. Engage gun. Disengage mind.”

The magistrates power and the cops gun are analogous here. This type of thinking is a symptom of diseased minds. Fifty years ago it would have been impossible to get cops to do many of these things because they would have questioned what was going on. It was a cultural thing.

I wonder how Elian is doing these days?

That would be an interesting debate question. Unfortunately the answers would be too predictable. Still, it would be worthwhile to make Hillary say she was for fathers' rights (but only for a microsecond, she;d mutter under her breath).

And under the cover of that lie from the Toone and Toonette, they turned Elian over to the village cadre. One of her finest moments, she must think to herself. Disgusting.

In this case the thugs arent the swat team, its the judge and the child welfare system.

I disagree. Every government actor in this episode was wrong (provided the report can be taken at face value.)

I used to fool myself that there were good people in law enforcement (and the military) that would refuse to act on unlawful orders from above.

The cops are trained to follow orders, even if the orders come from a nazi administration. The cops can’t ever question. They do what they are told. It never enters a cop’s mind to say “what the **** am I doing here? this is a child and I have guns”. No. Cop mind is on automatic pilot. Engage gun. Disengage mind.

That's actually quite right. I've noticed that cops don't tend to be very intelligent people, as a rule, and they certainly are NOT what anyone would define as "imaginative". They don't think for themselves, they just follow orders, go home, drink beer, sleep it off, and come back to work to follow more orders.

This is just the tip of the iceberg and it's only going to get worse.

They were so persistent Tom ended up having to get John out of the bathtub he was just soaking in, to bring him to the front porch where the social workers could see him, the family reported.

Then, following an afternoon shopping trip to town, the family settled in for the evening, only to be shocked with the SWAT team attack.

The sheriff said the decision to use SWAT team force was justified because the father was a "self-proclaimed constitutionalist" and had made threats and "comments" over the years.
