“Well, you know, my good friend John McCain is a maverick who has championed the cause of religious freedom for everyone in this country his entire life. John has courageously done this by becoming a Catholic in Boston, an Episcopalian in Washington DC and a Baptist in South Carolina. You know, you’ve heard of “a man for all seasons” well, you know, my good friend John here is a “man of all religions”. John McCain is fearless in his ability to change, I want change, you want change, we all want change, I myself have been tirelessly working for change for the past 40 years”

Hillary Clinton introducing her new running mate in 2012.

According to this pamphlet: How to win Michigan for Huck, Huckabee does have a Catholic problem. Catholics are key swing voters the GOP needs in the general election.

Huck may have an evangelical Problem. Some major Evangelicals have put a bad light on Evangelicals..

Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, etc.

The 2004 survey of Religion and politics in the United States identified the Evangelical percentage of the population at 26.3%; while Catholics are 22% and Mainline Protestants make up 16%. This is the fourth survey undertaken by Dr. Green to measure political attitudes and religion in the United States. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelicals

Bush’s moral majority is not, as is often thought, composed of a bunch of right-wing evangelical Christians. Rather, it consists of traditionalist and observant church-goers of every kind: Catholic and mainline Protestant, as well as evangelicals, Mormons,

**Does Huckabee make Catholics uncomfortable?**

I would say, off the record, “Yes.”

**Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses are seen as way off base, cults if you will.**

Very well said.

Jimmy Swaggart, Evangelist In 1991, he was caught with another prostitute in California. In 2004, remarking on gay marriage, he said he would kill a gay man who looked at him a certain way.

Funny Mike Huckabe , an evangelist said he would isolate aids patients from society.

I’m Anglican and he makes me uncomfortable. He is at the bottom of my vote list.

Jim Bakker, Evangelist / Convict Bakker suddenly resigned from PTL in 1987 after admitting having a one-time 1980 sexual encounter with a Long Island church secretary, Jessica Hahn, and making subsequent hush-money payments. He was convicted of fraud in 1989 for over-promising Heritage privileges to more than 152,000 special contributors. Tammy divorced him while he served five years in prison.

I have a friend who lived in Iran, before the fall of theShah of Iran, she is of the B'hai faith. She had family members and church members of her faith killed in mass numbers because they were considered Heratic. I find that you who call Mormons a cult are just as evil, it is bigoted, and hateful. I am Methodist, and I believe in this country we have the right to Freedom of Religion. I would be appalled if someone began to call Methodist a cult or heratic.

It looks like Christian Leader Huckabee is more specifically an evangelical Protestant leader, as the Huckabee flyer that some supporter made up specifies fundamentalist churches, and excludes Catholics.

Last I saw, Catholics were Christians, and really important part of a winning Republican coalition.

Why would a preacher for Jesus make any Christian uncomfortable???? Just asking.

One can be a preacher and be incorrect. That's just a fact. Huckabee seems to be of the persuasion that Jesus would want "government to work" or for "government to provide home". This is absurd. He's right on God but wrong on everything else. It happens.

If Huckabee doesn’t have Catholic problem now I would wager he will if gets the nomination and the rats start searching his pastoral record. Take for example his Mormon problem. By repeatedly refusing to answer the question of whether Mormons are Christians, Huckabee has by default indicated that he either doesn’t think so or doesn’t want to aggravate his hardcore supporters who don’t think so. At least that’s the obvious interpretation, but that strategy alenates Mormons who though a small minority, vote 90% GOP and make a crucial part of the electorare in a half a dozen states. So why wouldn’t Huck, being the politician that he is just pander a little and make a statement something to the effect of “My demonination doesn’t recognize Mormons to be Christian in their doctrine, or ordinances, but in as much as any man follows Jesus Christ I would leave it to God to decide who is a Christian” A nice answer that shows tolerance (loved by the media), reassures his evangelical base that he does not personally consider Mormons a Christian denomination, and says to Mormons - look I think your kooky like every other Christian church does but I am not going to insult you or say your bad people. It’s a WIN-WIN-WIN statement, the kind pandering politicians from Arkansas are famous for. so why didn’t he say it? Here’s my speculation - and I emphasize SPECULATIOn, I haven’t read or seen anything documenting this - Mike Huckabee has preached thousands of sermons. he’s taughts hundreds of classes, led dozens of retreats and seminars. The teaching that Mormons (and Jehovah Witnesses, Adventists, scientologist, etc etc ) are cults and not Christian is pretty standard teaching for a Baptist minister. Somewhere out there is recording, a transcript, a grainy VHS tape from 1982 that has preacher Huckabee teaching from the pulpit that Mormons are non-Christian cult. He knows it’s in ihis past so he cannot contradict himslef now and risk a series of attack adds pointing out his hyposrisy. My fear for the electability of Huck is that the same Baptist preached may also have railed against the “Papist” Catholics a time or two, and if that tape or sermon exists you can bet that Hillary will have it all over the news in October.

in 1980 voters had two choices: a divorced movie actor who did not regularly attend church and was not on good terms with all of his children, and a once-married Southern Baptist whose evangelicalism was at the core of his national identity. Voting on the basis of whose doctrine was better would have meant electing the second guy — Jimmy Carter — over the first, Ronald Reagan. Excluding those who don’t hold to orthodox Christianity would also have meant excluding such great Americans as Thomas Jefferson — who denied the divinity of Christ — from positions of authority. Is anybody going to argue someone else should’ve written the Declaration of Independence?

Friend,
Either the Mormons are right or the Christians are. There's no two ways about it. A man came along 150 years ago because Christ wasn't enough or He had it wrong. Is that what you're saying? Nonsense. The Mormons are idiots. Their idiotic belief has been proven wrong on many points and is held together by a cult-like shaming of any who question them. You too are an idiot if you maintain that all beliefs are equal and worthy of respect. They aren't. I too was a Methodist until the leadership went pear shaped. I don't support queers or women in the pulpit. That's not me but the Bible. You might have a problem with that or be "offended" by that. Perhaps you should consider becoming a Mormon?

WE AREN’T AT THAT POINT! And Jefferson was an ass. The truth is that nobody has been elected that doesn’t at least pretend to believe in the Bible.

I am saying that in the United States of America you have a right to worship as you please. I am Methodist, and I don’t want some dogmatic religion sticking their face in mine telling me they have the only way to Heaven. I am way , way beyond that. I respect anyones right to the Freedom of Relgion, and if you think that is idiotic, then you are just justifying your hate . I have found in life, that people who are insecure in their own beliefs, need to downgrade what others believe to make them feel secure.

I’m not voting for Huckabee in the primary but it is true Catholics are not Christians they are ROMAN Catholics. They know Christ like I know President Bush. I know about President Bush but I don’t know him in a personal way.
And so are the Mormons and J W.

I’m a Romney supporter.
