Thompson Camp Reports "Smear" Fliers Misleading Record (accuses Huckabeans of more "dirty tricks")
ABC News ^ | 1/19/08 | Christine Byun

ABC's Christine Byun reports: Republican candidate Fred Thompson’s campaign is accusing rival Mike Huckabee’s campaign of more "dirty tricks" in South Carolina.

They say fliers with misleading information about the former Tennessee senator’s abortion record were placed on parked cars at their event venue last night (http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/01/thompson-lets-g.html). The fliers insinuate Thompson voted for funding for abortions through a bill that supported Planned Parenthood. Thompson –- who has received the endorsement of national anti-abortion organization National Right to Life –- did vote for the bill in question, H.R. 3061. However, the bill specifically states that it does not include federal funding for abortions and does not mention Planned Parenthood. The flier quotes Scripture –- Proverbs 31:8 –- and includes a picture of the former Senator.

"Sen. Thompson worked in the Senate to ensure that federal funds did not go to abortion," a Thompson campaign spokesman, who provided a copy of a flier, said.

Earlier this week, the Thompson campaign accused Huckabee supporters of push-polling calls.

“These deceptive tactics are yet another sad sign that Gov. Huckabee cannot engage in a substantive discussion of the important public policy issues facing our country,” Dean Rice, the South Carolina campaign manager, said in a written statement.

Welcome to FR, do you have something against conservatives?

That's an odd way to welcome someone.

No I don't have anything against genuine conservatives. However, the resent rise in faux conservatives does bother me.

It sucks when when Huckabee finally hits back with the same type of attacks that have been used against him since Iowa. This would be payback for the hatchet job during the debates.

The Huckabee campaign is a very very very grass roots effort. Many of his supporters are printing up their own flyers and taking out adds in local papers with their own money. Its probably a violation of McCain-Feingold-Thompson...

Huck’s populist rhetoric deserves a smackdown by Fred. All his “the little people are hurting” is straight out of the DNC playbook. No true conservative would support Huck.

Thompson was correct in his assumption of Huckabee on foreign policy.

HUCK IS a member of the “blame America first crowd”. You attempted to turn the truth around which is a blemish on the Huck campaign.

Huck has filpped and flopped more than any other candidate. He does that to appease people after he opens his slick big mouth and sticks his foot in it.

Huckabee is autographing Bibles now!

That link to the electRomney site is a hoot. Especially the headline: "That’s It, Huckabee “IS” God, How Could We Have Missed It?" I don't know why Romney supporters would get worked up over that, given that Mormonism teaches that Mormons become gods, each in charge of their own world.

Another tempest in a teapot over Huckabee! Now Mitt Romney signing a Bible, that would at least be ironic...!

And who the the Faux conservatives be in your opinion?

Romney 1994

Romney 2002

Romney 2005

and not least of all

Romney 2008

At first glance you might mistake them all for the same person.

“Huck is the Democrat mole within the GOP.”

I agree. My question is: Who approached whom? Did Hucklebee approach Ed Rollins or did Ed Rollins approach Hucklebee? My guess is the latter. That would lead to my next question. Why? Why did he choose the Huckster to manage his campaign? It’s possible that he may have approached other campaigns and they turned him down, but my feeling is that Rollins is a spoiler and is trying to help divide the conservative vote. This is why he went to work for Perot. I think he found his kindred spirit in Hucklebee.

Sounds like the work of one of his dog killing boys.

Ed Rollins is a lot of things, but he isn't a dog killer....

My husband was raised in Arkansas along with his 6 siblings. They are some of the meanest, vindictive, low-down dirty dealing people you would ever want to meet. We haven’t spoken to them in years. His oldest brother was so much like Bill Clinton, I think they were separated at birth. He even lived in Hope for a while. Hucklebee’s behavior doesn’t surprise me one bit. What is surprising is that so many people are being duped by him. Put a D after his name instead of an R, I doubt these same people would give him a second glance.

Hurray! Go Fred!

I like your name. It reminds me of a favorite Nancy Drew mystery I read called Applegate Farm mystery....

Did you ever read that?

Sigh. I should read them all over again.
