Lincoln was hardly swept into office, it took three other candidates to divide up the electorate enough for Lincoln to slip in. And he was a compromise candidate for the Republicans after a number of others proved to be too polarizing.

FWIW Huckabee had a respectable 2nd-place finish, with delegates.

Curious: What is your plan moving forward? I don't see anyone. Paul and Huckabee are the closest, and that ain't very close! Write in Hunter?

“Politically there is very little difference between Hillary and McCain. You get minor variations on this and that issue, like abortion, but over all McCain and Clinton share the same political philosophical outlook”

Please support this statement.

War
McCain = Continue the surge
Clinton = Pull out

Spending
McCain = Cut spending
Clinton = Increase spending

Economic stimulus:
McCain = Cut corporate tax rates
Clinton = Increase aid for food stamps and welfare, raise corporate tax rates.

Abortion
McCain = Pro Life
Clinton = Pro baby killing

Ethanol subsidies
McCain = Get rid of them
Clinton = Help the “farmers” increase them.

Judges
McCain = In the mold of Alito or Roberts
Clinton = Bill Clinton

Sitting out of this election is like a 4 year old pouting that they didn’t get a new toy. There is a lot on the line in this (and every) election. By deciding NOT to vote you are de facto voting for Clinton.

Thanks for wanting to screw the country for the sake of pouting that Duncan Hunter didn’t win.

It was in quotes because I wasn't actually "coining a phrase", and I knew that. My frustration has overcome my regard for grammar, sorry.

and in the next days when the Fred folks face the same, there is going to be a large number of voters who will have no one to support except other than conservative or moderate. Also worse, most have nor military, national security for Foreign affair knowledge or background.

We are at war and need a Commander in Chief, not an account.

Not any dilemma, he doesn*t have to endorse anybody. Why should he back any one of the pretenders and liars we have left? God bless him.

True enough on that note.

There is a reason 99% of the GOP rejects Hunter, and that has nothing to do with ideology, and why that's a mystery here is rather mysterious.

Said another way, 1% think being in Congress for decades is a good idea, and then run for President regardless of the measurement of 'conservative.'

“Hunter and his supporters are what prevented conservatives from rallying around Thompson unanimously.
Unfortunately Hunter has had his own motives, and was never interested in helping conservatives regain control of the GOP.”

Your said all along that there weren’t enough Hunter supporters to matter to anybody! Which is it? I don’t think you want Thompson, I think you’re happy about how this is going.

That could read backwards, you know. If Hunter had admitted he hadn't enough support, dropped out when Fred got in and endorsed Fred, Fred might have done better--but I don't really know if Hunter had enough support to make a drop of difference.

Speaking of stalking horses, which has been mentioned several times on these threads, could Paul be made a stalking horse for the Dems--maybe someone put big money behind him to see him run. His % in several states, as well as his supporters could really have helped Fred or another GOPer. He has helped splinter the vote.

However, several Paul supporters (because of limited govt.)I know have McCain as their second choice--go figure. McCain may talk keeping spending down and big money out of campaigns, but both are a farce. His enviro proposals and regulation proposals would ruin the economy, and his desire to close Gitmo and bring them into our prisons with legal rights is insane, & inept. vaudine

We think Huck will betray Conservatives, we KNOW McCain will.

While everything you have mentioned about McCain, both your evidence and your conclusion is correct and I agree with you, the Huckster is no better.

He will destroy the conservative movement within the GOP with his own brand of Christian Socialism.

And much like McCain, this is all a moot point as neither of them are electable in the General.

They both turn off significant portions of the base guaranteeing a Dem victory.

Now though, the sheeple won’t seriously consider a congressman unless he has also been in “higher” office. It could be a reflection of the low esteem the sheeple have for other sheeple’s lawmakers.

Hunter and his supporters are what prevented conservatives from rallying around Thompson unanimously.

Isn't this like saying Mike Gravel derailed the Joe Biden campaign? None of them ever had a shot. I mean add the 5 people who voted for Hunter to Thompson's numbers and it wouldn't have made a difference. Fred just got in too late and was behind the eight ball when it came to $$ and infrastructure. Now we got to hope for a VP shot.

luvadavi wrote: “If all the Fred-heads had stuck with Hunter instead of wasting time and money nursing a lukewarm guy who was (is) a stalking horse for McCommie, then we might have attracted the true conservative base and beat back the bias of the MSN. Instead, we*ve lost the best man and have the devil to pay next Nov.”

In his second speech tonight, Hunter accepted full responsibility for his campaign failing to gain traction. He didn’t blame it on Fred, because that would have been whining and a lie to boot. His campaign was going nowhere before Fred even got in the race. He was polling at 1%. After Fred got in the race, Hunter continued to poll at 1%.

So once again, Hunter shows he has more class in his little fingernail than all of his FR supporters put together.

And a pox on any Fred supporters who think Hunter’s 1% would have made any difference in Fred’s campaign. Hunter wasn’t the cause of any of the Thompson campaign’s problems.

Good grief, people. Get a grip on reality...
