Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

I haven’t checked, but does this thread now have more posts than votes Hunter received in any primary so far?

I believe that the Constitution was written by men whose minds and hands were moved by GOD himself. I believe the Constitution means exactly what it says and says what it means.

Huckabee wants to use the amendment process as an end-run against an activist judiciary. I once thought blanket pardoning could work as well. The Constitution has a huge hole that was exploited early on with the Supreme Court. The Constitution has the vulnerability of being amended silently by judicial fiat. Any legislation from the bench should mean immediate impeachment for a judge especially on the Supreme Court. If I could have one constitutional amendment, it would be for the immediate impeachment of a judge that uses another source than the Constitution to rule on constitutional matters.

I believe that it clearly lays out OUR rights that are granted by GOD and the limits placed upon government by man. I believe that with all of my heart. I believe in the Conservative ideology and principles and I live by them. I am proud of them.

I was actually concerned about Huckabee's sense of the role of government, but I found the following comforting:

>> "If every person who went to every church in this country, or even if they didn't, would give a dime out of a dollar just to help their neighbor, there would not be any need whatsoever of government assistance," Huckabee said, adding government's job is to "protect us, not have to provide for us." << Source

This will go down as a police action..,,,unless the Constitution is no longer valid.,,

Indeed, it likely will. And there are many who are attempting to invalidate the Constitution....by various means.

Huckabee had a meeting not long ago at the Council on Foreign Relations.

He is open borders and has always been until right before the elections.

He is other than he claims to be.

Be very careful. He was being talked about nicely by Kristol and Barnes.

Really. I wasn't aware of that one. Do you know why and about what?

I was a kid and watched both Conventions... and as a kid I wanted kennedy to lose. I also remember later in life, watching the dims and hippies in Chicago get their heads handed to them. Man that some some great times... my Dad and I enjoyed that more than you can imagine. I loved that a dim would smack the lefties. I was hoping for a bit of that action from the dims this year. Now I think we may see it on the floor at the Republican convention.

When people have money, they're happy.

Small business creates the most jobs...not corporations...and it certainly shouldn't be governments. Which is what Hillary proposes.

Lou Dobbs is an idiot.

Forget this thread exploding. My head is about to explode. I think we've officially entered bizzaro world.

The rock-ribbed conservative got zero traction among GOP primary voters and dropped out before Super Tuesday. The Masshole that party activists as well as conservative media and think tank elites used to mock as a left wing RINO is suddenly accepted as a conservative. The libertarian is getting most of his support from statist leftists. The anti-GOP candidate actually won SC. And now the solid, principled congressional conservative endorses a nanny-stater.

And I thought I'd seen it all when Jim Webb accepted Kerry's endorsement, rather than punch ol' Lurch in the frickin face!

If Paul weren't so childish on The War or completely nutters on nation-states engaged in war, I'd jump into his hayride of tinfoil-sportin loons this second.

Oh my, he met with a Washington think tank.

Of course, that particular think tank is considered the Mark of The Beast by some conservatives.

Anything that is comes out of that group, as opposed the other 100 groups exactly like it, is from Satan's mouth.

I like him. I see energy, an ability to communicate effectively, family values, great business background, intelligence, and he speaks of no amnesty and having the illegals go back home before coming back to work. He's a doer - you can tell. We need a doer...there's a lot of work ahead.

The other thing I really like is that I can see him running debate circles around Hillary. We need that BADLY.
