Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

I’m not taking the advice, or voting for, any FREETRAITORS.

I'm not sure what that sentence means, since it wouldn't pass an eighth grade grammar test, but to the extent that you won't listen to people you don't like, I'm not surprised.

That*s OK! Yes it*s a firefight and a crazy one...what is coming down the pike next??? Maybe Thompson will endorse Edwards? Nice hair—now I*m teasing you about a beauty contest. It is true though—it was probably the major reason JFK was elected, a real contrast. I*m old enough to remember that. Wasn*t very political then, too young .

The point is that we need guys who can stand up and tell the truth in an appealing way. We had Abraham Lincoln when we needed him (and Fredrick Douglas, Elijah Lovejoy, Harriet B. Stowe, etc.) and we need some strong convincing power in the White House, now.

...or next, even if after one more Clinton term.

“I don’t have any idea, other than what he said, and Huckabee’s promises to follow through. If Huck has Hunter as VP, I may think about it, but we are a loooong way from that.”
That’s what it would take for me to consider Huck.

Look-you need to stop insinuating that because I can’t fall down before your chosen candidate, that I’m dishonest. I have real disagreements with his record and with his statements. I don’t know the man, it isn’t personal. I freely admit that knowing what his son did, and his handling of it, turns me off. But before I ever knew that, I had problems with him.

Anytime someone here states an issue they have with his policies or record, they are deflected by you. You would serve your candidate better, by stating with provable facts on record (links to sources, statements with sources that make your-his-case, etc), where we may be wrong. I’m not going to support someone with whom I have pretty profound issues as far as I know the facts, just because you say “that’s not the whole picture” or “there are some mitigating circumstances here”, when you never explain those mitigating circumstances. When a man is running for Leader of the Free World, it works differently from a court trial—he’s “guilty” until proven “innocent”, so to speak. people can’t take the chance on just giving them the benefit of the doubt. If someone has the wrong idea about his stances, as his supporter, the onus is on you to say, “here’s what he really said or did”, and back it up with sources.

And you certainly won’t convert me by insulting me in what is not as subtle a manner as you think it is, and dismissing my concerns.

I think Fred will hold off endorsing anyone until more tea leaves can be read. I think he's angling for the VP spot and won't want to burn any bridges.

Is Romney running as "from Massachusetts" or "from Michigan"?

I think he's "from Mass." if so Thompson would balance the ticket nicely. If he's "from Mich." he should consider Rick Santorum.

I may be over emphasizing the geographical balance, but it's something I think about. I sure wouldn't want 2 northeasterners running the government if I were from the south.

Then maybe this will make sense to you: Those who are FREETRAITORS have ZERO credibility. It has nothing to do with personal like or dislike. It speaks to their credibility. FREETRAITORS have none.

Maybe so but I do not find Huckabee to be appealing. He’s annoying and I won’t vote for annoying and why is there a Mexican Consulate office in Arkansas????? Buenos dias.

Well so much for the notion that Duncan Hunter is a pure conservative. This is why we should all get behind Mitt Romney. Romney would never drop out and endorse some schmuck like Huckabee.

At this point, I’m agreeing with Ann Coulter. AND, I think Michael Steele would be the best VP choice now for Romney. Hopefully, Duncan would be asked to be the Sec Def or Head of Homeland Security - he’d be wonderful.

Ah, those who you deem “FREETRAITORS”, whatever that slur means, have no credibility.

Gotcha.

You think Rush likes Romney. I have a sneaky suspicion that Rush likes Rudy more.

But that doesn’t mean he will endorse either before the chips fall.

...If Huck has Hunter as VP...

The only problem as I see it - And I am not sure I would like that - is that it would 'appear' as if Duncan sold out just for a job like most politicos seems to do. I JUST DON'T think Duncan is that type of a person.
