Giuliani drops out of GOP race, backs McCain

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Rudy Giuliani dropped out of the Republican presidential campaign on Wednesday and endorsed Sen. John McCain for the nomination.

Giuliani made the announcement at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library a day after suffering a debilitating defeat in Tuesday's Florida primary.

With McCain at his side, Giuliani said the nation needed "someone who can be trusted in times of crisis."

"Obviously I thought I was that person," the former New York mayor said. "The voters made another choice."

He noted that he and McCain had managed to compete without running negative ads against each other and said, "We will remain friends." He said he would campaign for McCain as much as the Arizona senator wanted.

Once the Republican front-runner, Giuliani finished a distant third to McCain and second-place finisher Mitt Romney. After the results, Republican officials had said Giuliani would endorse McCain, who also picked up an endorsement Wednesday from California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity in advance of the public announcement.

That was a sweet speech he gave. He sounded like he was going to cry, either because he’s sad that he lost or because he really likes Johnny as much as he says he does. Hope he gets to be part of the cabinet if not VP.

Between the two of them, they could open up a franchise outlet, ‘RINOS ‘R US’.

With an endorsement like that, McAmnesty could be in serious trouble. Anybody here think Julie brings anything to the dance that might be the teensiest beneficial? I don’t.

If he had spoken like that while campaigning, he might still be in it. I don’t think he want’s the VP job. He might be interested in the Attorney General job though, from what I have heard.

Why? Is Hillary going to appoint him?

McCain is going to be blown out of the water.

Sheesh can Fox news be anymore exuberent? They’re having a McCain-a-gasm. The sound went out during the Guliani endorsement and you would have thought Brit Hume was having a “heidi” movie flashback.

Julie Annie stressed character in his endorsement, both his and McCain’s. Considering the Keating Five and Rudy’s endorsement of Kerik, Julie Annie came across very insincere, but that is not exactly news, is it?

Rudy’s sentimental, but sometimes his judgement is WAY off. Just look at Bernard Kerik.

He let’s his personal feelings influence his thinking.

If he had dropped out a weak ago with the same support, McCain would have had a majority yesterday instead of a plurality. What? Do you think Giullianni’s support will go to McRomney?

And anyone should be surprised that a liberal in sheep's clothing would support a liberal is sheep's clothing?

Giuliani said the nation needed "someone who can be trusted in times of crisis."

Tell ya what Rudy...We'll put you on speed dial to head FEMA. You did a much better job in NYC then the more recent FEMA directors have in other crisis situations.
